Abundance

There were so many different kinds of produce at the Mandeville Flower Show. Breadfruits, sweet potatoes, coconuts, yellow & white yams, carrots, cucumbers, plantains, bananas, tomatoes, sweet peppers...and at rock bottom prices too. Ever since last year, after the hurricane, produce has been scarce - especially bananas and plantains.

They are only now just starting to come back into abundance.

Of course there was an abundance of mangoes. These, apparently came all the way from the eastern parish of St. Thomas. I am told the sweetest mangoes are to be found in St. Thomas.

And of course, the pack of Craven A cigarettes is never scarce in Jamaica, no matter how decimated by hurricanes the agricultural sector may be. :)

Ridiculosity

So I went to the Mandeville Flower Show last Monday (the 25th of May). That weekend was a holiday weekend as the public holiday, Labour Day was celebrated on Monday.

Now, it had been raining heavily for most of that weekend, as it usually does, but had cleared up quite nicely by noon on Monday and actually became quite sunny & hot.

I was on the prowl for interesting "FEET" shots for Theme Day and noticed that, in spite of the rainy weather, most everyone wore sandals of some sort, which oddly enough, worked fine, as the grounds were, surprisingly, neither muddy nor wet.

I even managed to spot one brave couple wearing full suits of white!

The lady was wearing pumps, bless her soul.

And then I spied with my little eye the most ridiculous thing

my eye ever did see at a Flower Show.

Waterboots????

Does one get up one morning, decide to go to the Mandeville Flower Show, don one's jeans, throw on a TeeShirt and then rummage through one's shoe closet, just happen to stumble upon...a pair of waterboots and say, "Why yes! That would complete my outfit perfectly!" ?

o-O

Ridiculous.

Theme Day: Feet

Today is the first day of the month, which means that it's Theme Day in the City Daily Photo Blogging Community. Today's theme is "FEET". I had planned to post something really creative for this post. Something other than...well...regular old feet. But yesterday afternoon, as I rocked this little new born baby girl to sleep at the Blossom Gardens Orphanage right here in Montego Bay, I couldn't help but notice how perfectly tiny and new her feet are.

The Little Dancer

At the Black River Flower Show recently I was amused as I watched this little girl.

She stood in the crowd, at first silently, watching the show put on by one of the local school bands.

But then, the beat got hold of her and she stood still no more. :) Her performance was, to be honest, far more interesting to watch then the band!
