Former Emmerdale stars Leah Bracknell and Peter Amory, who played brother and sister Zoe and Chris Tate, will reunite on screen in the ITV1 daytime drama, The Royal Today.

Leah has starred in the show as ward Matron since January, while Peter will make his appearance on Friday, 22nd February.

He plays David, a patient who keeps collapsing and fears that he has Motor Neurone Disease, a condition that killed his father the previous year.

Leah said: "Peter and I seem destined to work together.  After Emmerdale, we did a play together called Gas Light, and then Peter appeared in The Royal Today.

"We are really great friends so it was terrific having him on set.”

Peter had planned to surprise Leah, who didn't know he had been given a role in the show.

She explained: "Peter was trying to keep his appearance a secret.

"He wanted to surprise me on the day, but word leaked out and I texted him saying that I heard he was going to be on the show.  He was gutted that his surprise was ruined!”

Peter said: “I had a great time working on the The Royal Today and really enjoyed working with Leah again.”

Both actors' Emmerdale characters made spectacular exits from the soap.

Wheelchair-bound Chris Tate was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2001. He them committed suicide in order to frame his wife Charity for murder after finding out she'd been unfaithful.

Zoe Tate left for New Zealand in 2005 with her daughter Jean and her orphaned nephew Joseph, after engineering an explosion at Home Farm, which she'd been conned into selling to the Kings.

The Royal Today is on weekdays at 3.30pm.
