One of the last acts Victor Watts, was to initiate the process of obtaining a full Grant of Arms to the College. Through the generosity of Henry Dyson, this has now been completed and it is the pleasure of the college and the association to have displayed here a version of our new Coat of Arms. The Phoenix, as you can see, now occupies its rightful position, and the Latin Motto (Ascending by Degrees) is added at the bottom. The coleege is keen that this new symbol of our identity is as visible as possible in many areas of the College. To that end, new signage is to be erected at entrances which will be of great assistance in helping visitors find their way to the College buildings. However, the college are also very keen to have the new Coat of Arms proudly placed in front of the Hall, above the main entrance, to replace the present shield. This operation will cost, it is estimated, �5,000 and it is hoped that alumni will contribute generously to this end. |
