Another of my silly cooking advice entries, this one is about a true quest of mine: Perfecting buttercream.



Now. Cupcakes are not cupcakes unless they have icing, no? Would you eat a naked cupcake? Didn't think so. Poor thing would be all embarrassed. There would have to be some SERIOUS stuff going on in that batter, and even then they'd just be bite-sized muffins.

Icing is the key. I have been icing the family Xmas cake for as long as I can remember, but sadly it has always had to be royal icing, for the simple fact that it needs to last a while. Cupcakes deserve special icing, and buttercream is always the best.*

Here's the greatest recipe I have found (and slightly altered) for the perfect buttercream. If you're not lapping up the bowl at the end of this, I will call you a liar.

Drawn by the overly-talented kit_a_licious which I pinched for my own evil deeds. I was looking for a project and when she said I should draw monsters I remember instantly of this picture. Kit, honey, if you ever want to draw me more monsters then please do. <3

I'm really happy how she turned out - the colours are a little darker than I would have liked but all the same it's pretty rockin', no? If my order of plastic canvas ever fucking arrives *shakes fist* then I am so making a badge. ^^

But I can't concentrate on silly little projects right now as I have to finish all you guys' (or at least you American guys') presents by Wednesday! Agh! ...But a good agh! I like being rushed when it comes to art. =)

I'm taking part in Josie Long's One Hundred Days To Make Me A Better Person. My hundred days will revolve around making something beautiful, ie. getting better at crafting and making awesome things so hopefully by the end I will feel good about myself. =) I am cheating slightly as technically it's not a daily goal seeing as I could never finish one crafting project a day with my job, but it's pretty close to being that.

As I said in my last post, I'm going to try my hand at making cross-stitched video-game characters. I saw some great tutorials on how to do it sadly after I started this one, but I'm proud of how it's shaping up anyhow:

I'm a little proud of this year's pumpkin. I saw the idea of a cannibalistic pumpkin from the book Extreme Pumpkins which I got in America last year and I couldn't resist. ^^

My sister has this to say:

That's so good. I'm impressed. She can knit, bake cakes and carve pumpkin monsters. Another talent that, sadly, won't make you a millionaire.

So so true. XD

I shall be trying to make some finger puppets in the near future too so if you want to request one if you want to buy or think they'll sell then go right ahead! I shall also be trying to make oranges and lemons (and call them the Clements sisters ^^) if I manage to figure out to make round things... eek.
