This is the type of film that the phrase “glorious technicolor” was invented for - look at the richness of the colours!

To say nothing of a phrase that gets used in this house a bit too often…

ok so this is The Court Jester with Danny Kaye and it is the best fucking movie i swear. It’s a comedy musical robin hood parody thing about an incompetent moron and his extremely competent ass-kicking girlfriend taking down a tyrannical king and restoring the throne to the rightful heir

-the rightful heir is a baby and they can tell it’s the right baby because of a giant birthmark on his asscheek

-the main character’s only talent is singing and the rest of the pseudo robin-hood group just kinda tolerate him because he repeatedly fucks up

-he gets hypnotized into believing he is this amazing swashbuckling sword fighting hero along the lines of Wesley from the Princess Bride and ends up fighting the villain while snapping in and out of hypnosis

-the vessel with the pestle has the pellet with the poison, the chalice with the palace has the brew that is true “what”

-he stumbles his way through the entire plot and never knows what the hell is going on

-Danny Kaye is the funniest motherfucker you’ve never heard of

-seriously go watch it you wan’t regret it

And a fun tidbit from the filming was that Danny Kaye had never fenced before this film, so he was trained by Basil Rathbone’s stunt double who was also the fight coordinator. Kaye got so proficient so quickly, that Rathbone himself had to do most of the duel scenes between them as the fight coordinator eventually couldnt keep up with him on the more technical parts of the fight. If you watch closely, you can see that Rathbone stays on camera doing the fencing for a much larger percentage of time than he normally did by that point in his career, and Kaye does all but a couple of shots of his own fencing, because HIS double couldnt keep up and make it believable.

What the fuck happens that changes these stats to such a massive degree?
1) schizophrenia hardly ever causes people to be violent so schizophrenic people aren’t more likely to be violent than anyone else
2) schizophrenic people’s autonomy is often taken away from them because of their schizophrenia. because the authorities and mental healthcare providers often automatically assume schizophrenic people to be violent, they’re more likely to immediately react to schizophrenic people’s symptoms with violence, without even knowing for sure said schizophrenic person was going to be violent. all of this causes schizophrenic people to be more likely of being victims of violence and abuse. schizophrenic people also have a harder time getting out of abusive households because of the risk of their autonomy being taken away. if a schizophrenic person’s relative or partner is abusive, often the schizophrenic person has no way out of the situation, both because our disconnect from reality can result in us being easier to manipulate, and because the system is built in a way that it takes away our autonomy because of our condition.
also schizophrenic people and psychotic people in general, please do a lot of research before picking a provider for your own sake, and if they try to treat your psychosis in a way that you think is harmful then don’t hesitate to switch providers. your safety and wellbeing should be a priority over everything else.

#rebecca sugar has gone on record saying that they knew from the beginning they wanted ruby and sapphire and they put every inch of planning #in to make sure that the studio could not take them out. sugar has said they’d compromised on hundreds of things they’d wanted for steven #so that they had the bargaining power specifically to keep ruby and sapphire’s relationship #and a number of ‘filler’ episodes were created just to establish counter-arguments that might come up when they pitched the wedding episode #the one that comes to mind is the episode about steven and connie getting lost in rose’s room steven’s central conflict about liking their #fave book series’ romantic ending was later weaponised when producer’s were like ‘oh but steven’s a boy he won’t be too interested in them #getting married’ sugar was able to be like ‘no. in this episode it’s established he loves romance and specifically weddings. and in these #episodes it’s shown how much steven cares about ruby and sapphire and their relationship and happiness. you cannot convince me this is not #good and necessary plot development #and they wrapped it up in the season finale and the big climactic point of the diamonds finally coming to attack earth to make the #episode integral to the series no skipping it without confusion. and had ruby wear a wedding dress because international censors took #advantage of her design to give her a masculine va #and sugar made certain that everybody knew This was a queer love story that an entire town supported and admired and that any child watchin #it at home would know they are not alone and that that support is waiting for them out there somewhere #sugar sacrificed the wider story they wanted to tell for that and it was a horrible decision to be given but they made the right choice
