The Ultimate Gigolas Fic Rec List

So this summer I went through all the old archives (Axe and Bow, Axe & Bow, Of Elves and Men, The Library of Moria) and the not so old archives (AO3 and Henneth-Annun), combing through the tags and singling out the gigolas fics that picked my interest. I read a lot - and let me stress this, a LOT - of fics, and of all those fics I read, I've selected the best ones to share with y'all!

(I didn't go through fanfiction.net because that way lies madness, and I'm not that far gone yet. I might make another list if I go through that site in the future, but don't hold your breath.)

Anyway, thanks a lot to flamebyrd (thank you for your help with the posting!), meereseibe, surroundedbydorks, ichijoukenichiro, notanightlight, and everyone else at the gigolaschat for their encouragement, support, and valuable suggestions!

The list is divided in several categories: canon fic (subdivided into pre-slash, getting together fic, smut, pining, fluff, Valinor, h/c, telling the parents, and other), canon au, au, and gen. Yes, this is a long, long, long post. Be warned, but hopefully there will be something here that you will like. My personal favourites are marked with an asterisk (*). Let me know if you find any errors (broken links or so, but everything should work smoothly), and also if you're an author and think your fic should be in a different category, don't hesitate to contact me! :)

Canon - Other

These are some rad fics and series that don't quite fit into my flimsy categories, but they're awesome and you should definitely check them out, so I'm putting them first.

Title: Untitled *

Comment: This is a lovely fic in which Legolas is transmale and Gimli is just amazing. It's a short and beautiful piece.

Comment: I decided to recommend the whole series instead of just one fic because… well, it's just amazing. One of my all time favourites, to be honest. You should check it out, it deals with many aspects of Legolas and Gimli's relationship, it has fluff and angst and some of my favourite headcanons ever. Plus, it has a happy ending, and some bagginshield and kiliel on the side.

Comment: This is a pretty rad fic with some bits of horror and gore. I really loved the universe, the whole premise of elves being blamed for the bad things that were happening (and thus harassed by the people of Gondor) was quite interesting, and the story is really well done - an exciting mystery, some social issues, and of course, gigolas love to spice it all up. It's great.

Title: Little Differences *

Comment: This was the first gigolas fic I read, and the one that pretty much sold me the pairing entirely; it's bloody amazing. I just love everything about it - it's sweet, it's hot, it has lovely headcanons, and it deals with cultural differences and similarities and just… *sighs dreamily* read it, you won't regret it!

Title: Some Other Beginning's End

Comment: This fic is related to The Hobbit movie-verse. Legolas feels guilty about how he treated Glóin when he captured him, all those years ago. It's quite a funny one!

Title: Advice

Summary: Humorous vignette. Post ROTK. Aragorn turns to Legolas and Gimli for guidance on… ahem…a personal matter. Warnings: Adult theme. Lots of kinkiness. ‘Slightly-more-than-implied' slash, Legolas/Gimli
Comment: This is a very silly fic in which Aragorn asks Gimli and Legolas (his friends who are so obviously in love with one another) for tips on how to spice up his sex life with Arwen. They've got a lot of experience and a lot of ideas for him to try. Yeah, that's pretty much it.

Canon - Pre-Slash

In these fics, it is heavily implied that Legolas and Gimli have feelings for one another (or at least that one of them does), but they haven't acted upon them yet. Sometimes they're written from another character's POV.

Title: Night Watch

Comment: This is a short drabble in which Boromir observes Legolas and Gimli, and figures out something about them. It's short and sweet.

Title: On the Precipice

Summary: Falling in love. To Gimli it seemed an absurd concept, as though loving someone were to be compared to falling into a pond or from a cliff. As if there were any chance of righting yourself, of grasping a nearby tree or shrub and hauling yourself back to your feet and out of danger.
Comment: This is a lovely piece in which Gimli and Legolas argue about whether or not Aragorn did the right thing by asking Éowyn to stay behind and not get involved in battle, with some veiled implications about their own relationship. It's a subtle and beautiful piece.

Title: A warm night and a sudden realisation

Canon - Getting Together Fic

In these fics, the main plot is about Gimli and Legolas getting together. Of course, some of them also deal with other topics! But if you're looking for a fic about them confessing their love, this is the right place.

Comment: This is a cute fic, Gimli's POV, that deals with assumptions and cultural misunderstandings. It's one of the old fics, so it kind of disregards the canon facts about elves and marriage and sex, but it's still a nice read.

Title: A Conversation Upon Helm's Deep

Title: Folk of Different Race

Comment: This fic sees Legolas and Gimli wishing to fulfill Gandalf's request that they try to be friendly to one another. It deals with how their friendship (and something else too) developed when they stayed in Lothlórien with the rest of the Fellowship.

Comment: Songfic. Legolas and Gimli miss each other terribly when they have to part for a visit to Eryn Lasgalen and Erebor. It's a really feels-y one!

Title: Sense and Sensuality

Summary: Aragorn is on a relief mission to help restore a town and establish relations. When random factors come together to cause strange behavior in Legolas, Aragorn begins to learn of the elf's hidden relationship and the strength of dwarven love.
Comment: Legolas and Gimli are bonded by the dwarven ritual, but it makes them react in ways they didn't quite expect. It's basically one of those bonding fics in which, if they don't have sex soon, they could die. The situation is tense because Legolas is away with Aragorn, helping him rebuild a small town (which has some interesting characters of its own). It's a bit of a slowburn (even if their relationship's established), but cute. A warning for mild violence (the bond makes Legolas have some disturbing dreams).

Title: On the Cold Hill Side

Summary: In the end, Gimli thinks, Legolas will steal his heart and sail away with it, and even the wonders of the Glittering Caves are not enough consolation for that loss. But when Aragorn calls for Gimli's help in dismantling the hidden traps of Orthanc, everything changes.
Comment: Beautiful fic, with lots and lots of pining. Seriously it will tear your heart out and fill the void with feels and you will love every minute of it. Wonderful.

Title: Lost and Found

Title: Lords of Misrule

Comment: These is an incredibly heart-wrenching fic that involves a lot of pining and misunderstandings (cultural and of all types). It's a fandom favourite, and quite rightly so, so you should definitely check it out!

Title: The Secrets of the Lonely Mountain *

Summary: Legolas is sent to Erebor after the War of the Ring, where he's given the chance to meet up with Gimli again. Predominantly book-verse. And I feel it should be subtitled "Adventures in Moodiness: Featuring an Elf and a Dwarf".
Comment: OMG this fic… *sobs* This is an amazingly beautiful fic full of cultural misunderstandings and pining and gaaaaah. I can't make a coherent comment about it, just give it a go. It's amazing and you won't regret it.

Title: Just Maybe

Comment: This is a fandom favourite! It's a super long, painfully slow-burn fic in which the main obstacles for Gimli and Legolas' relationships are their misunderstandings and stubbornness. It's got some interesting headcanons about dwarves and sex.

Canon - Fluff

Sweet, lovely, fluffy fics that made me go “aaaaaaaawwwwww!” and scream in fangirl delight.

Legolas and Gimli are trapped by the snow, and since they can't return to Ithilien or the Glittering Caves at the moment, they attempt to make the most of it. Ridiculously cute.

Title: On the Subject of Titles *

Canon - Valinor and Beyond

These fics are dated around time time Legolas and Gimli sail for the West, or when they're living in Valinor. Some of them are about sailing, some of them are about mortality and Gimli's eventual death.

Title: Undying *

Summary: The Undying Lands can heal the hurts of mind and spirit but it cannot give immortality to a mortal body; it can only delay the inevitable. Bilbo's death drives home an unpleasant truth for Legolas.
Comment: Warning for character death. This is a very beautiful fic in which Legolas has to come to terms with the fact that Gimli will die, and goes to Mahal to beg for an alternative. It's a prequel to Back to the Beginning, but it can be read on its own without reading the next one.

Title: Back to the Beginning *

Comment: In this fic, Gimli reincarnates and Legolas, immortal elf, searches for him each life. It's sequel to Undying, but it can be read on its own. Warning for character death (it doesn't have a happy ending, I'm afraid, so if you liked the somewhat hopeful note of Undying, perhaps you should avoid this one.)

Title: Where You Will Go I Will Go

Title: Strange and Uncomely

Title: Things of Subtlety and Beauty *

Comment: This is the sequel to Strange and Uncomely, but I'm reccing it too because it's pretty awesome. Yavanna makes a visit to Gimli!

Title: Closer

Summary: As Gimli reaches his final moments, Legolas reflects on their relationship, its trials and its triumphs. Is it possible for a Dwarf and Elf to truly become one? Or will they never be close enough?
Comment: Warning for character death. This is another fandom favourite that you should definitely check out! I particularly liked the way it portrayed Gimli and Legolas' relationship, with their good, fluffy parts, but also their fights. It's a very good one.

Title: Until the Second Song

Gimli and a dwarf girl named Mâglah help Legolas build his ship to sail into the west. While they are working, Legolas realizes that there are a lot of things that have been long unexpressed between him and his dearest friend, things that must be said and done before it is too late.
Comment: OMG, this fic, this bloody fic will rip your heart off. It's just incredibly poetic, beautiful, and very, very sad. Warning for character death. It's got an amazing original character too! It's really great, guys, but you're gonna suffer.

Title: Why Do The White Gulls Cry?

These fics deal with a variety of topics, but all of them have some H/C in it (sometimes it being the main point of the fic, sometimes just a sort of background), so I put them all in the same category.

Title: The Hill of Erech

Comment: Emotional Hurt/Comfort. Gimil is upset and can't sleep around ghosts. Legolas attempts to help.

Title: All I Ever Ask

Summary: Uncharted love gives rise to uncertainties about the future. Legolas and Gimli explore the depth of their love in the midst of homecoming. Can be regarded as a continuation of In Fangorn.
Comment: Legolas is reluctant to go back to Mirkwood; he's a bit insecure about their relationship, and Gimli helps him overcome his fears.

Title: The Telling of Tales*

Summary: A continuation of Lessons in Gardening, although this can be read by itself. The new colonies have been established in Ithilien and Aglarond, and Gimli and Legolas rendezvous in their little house. This story contains much description of households and eatables, not much action, gratuitous use of sea-longing, reinterpreting of and poking fun at the Silmarillion, hair pulling and references to smelly elves.
Comment: Though related to Lessons in Gardening, it can be read on its own. In this fic, Legolas and Gimli have their own place between Ithilien and the Glittering Caves, where they meet often. Except when Gimli comes to meet Legolas this time, he's taken by an attack of sea longing. Gimli attempts to sooth him in many ways, including telling him stories about dwarves from long ago. It's bittersweet, domestic, funny, angsty, and cute. I quite liked it.

Title: The Sound Below Sound *

Comment: This is an amazing fic which explores Gimli's fears while going through the Paths of the Dead and how it affected him afterwards. It's slow-burn, and it deals with anxiety and panic in a very marvellous way. I highly recommend it.

Title: The Elf and the Spear

Comment: A warning for violence. This is a lovely hurt/comfort fic in which Legolas is harmed and Gimli freaks out.

Comment: This fic is seriously amazing. It's one of my top favourites. Based on “The Breakfast Club”, you've got the fellowship as silly teenagers. The events from the books are more or less represented here greatly. It has amazing characterisation. It's funny and exciting and it will give you a lot of feels. It's truly a gem. Also, make sure to check out it's ongoing sequel, Closer, which is entirely centred in Legolas and Gimli's relationship.

Title: Radioactive (Welcome to the New Age) *

Title: The Pirates of Erebor

Comment: This fic is so much fun! Legolas pretends to be one of his (female) cousins to spare her from being kidnapped by Erebor pirates (just let that sink in… this is a pirate AU, and it's pretty amazing), but he might get a little more involved that he expected. Gimli is just a freaking smooth gentleman whom you'll love completely, and the whole story is pretty sweet and exciting.

Comment: Ugh, this bloody fic. This. Bloody. Fic. It's so good I don't know I can't focus on just a few things to comment, but I'll try. The universe is amazing - It's Middle-Earth, but like it'd be in the 1930s. The races are intact, then, so you've got cultural differences (even among the elves!), and frankly, a lot of interesting things going on everywhere you look. The characterisation is amazing, the plot involves more or less everything from the books. You'll fall in love with the characters again. And gosh, the gigolas is so good; a sort of slow-burn, with lots of pining. It's seriously great, you won't regret reading it! And I suppose it can be a good start if you'd like to read an AU but you're not willing to just drop Middle-Earth and everything about the mythology entirely. It's an AU, but you can still get the distinct feeling of Tolkien-verse here.

...Anyway, here I go.

I moved to Scotland, I live in St Andrews now, I'm a grad student. I'm finally where I wanted to be. It's been difficult to get used to it, heh. I mean... I'm still quite culture shocked, I'm having trouble adjusting to being a student again AND living in a completely foreign and alien culture and in a completely different weather to which I was used to, speaking a foreign language, and WELP.

But I'm really happy. I'm learning, slowly meeting new people and getting to know this place and getting to know myself in a new place, if that makes sense. I like it. I'm enjoying it. I'm still stressed, messy and a bit terrified, but I'll get better, and also I've got lots of support. So yay.

Soooooooo... I've got a new laptop! I've named it Totoro! :D And there was this sale so I got a free telly with it too which happens to be exactly like my sister's, just smaller. Little sister TV!!

Yeah, I'm in a super dorky mood. :3

I'm on a diet, too, but I'm not suffering like I thought I would. I'm actually enjoying it. It's weird. But yeah, I'm enjoying being on a diet. I've been doing some reading on the bus, which is something, and... I'm enjoying work a lot. :D

I'm sleeping better, it gets better slowly, and while I'm broke and I owe more than I've already earned (that will teach me NOT to count on money people owe me -_-), at least I've got new shiny stuff!!!!

And as you can tell, I'm happy and excited. I haven't decided where I'm going to grad school or anything, but I will, very soon. Because I figured out what's holding me back and now I'm dealing with it. I feel great today. :)

So, lemmesay started watching Merlin! And also I promised javiera ages ago that I'd write a list of the best Merlin eps to watch, so she could skip the crappy stuff and just stick to the good ones.

I'd say, "Oh you gotta watch this because it's like super important for continuity!!!" but seriously, this show doesn't understand continuity (and sometimes not character development), so this list might lack important eps. I find that you can pretty much cut out the entire Lancelot/Guinevere/Arthur plot and you wouldn't miss much. Except Lancelot, who was awesome and hot... Anyway, here's the list:

Yeah, basically, you can see series 1 was the best. Then The first half of season four was pretty damn great until the producers decided to jump the shark. To be honest, the focus of the show moves more from Merlin to Arthur around the third series (or should I say, to shoving Arthur/Gwen down our throats :/). And yeah, you can pretty much skip the finale of series four. It was terrible except for a couple of things. So maybe you'll find yourself asking, "Hey, wait, how come this character is now evil?!" or something, but honestly, even if you'd watched the ep in which they're announced as evil, the lack of proper character development means you wouldn't really be missing anything. :/

Right now I'm only watching the show because Bradley James and Colin Morgan's performance as Arthur and Merlin is great, and they make even shitty scenes be awesome. But yeah... series five is currently airing. Once it's done, I could add those new eps to the list.

Okay, I know I don't sound very enthusiastic, but it's not my fault that the damn show's gone to the dogs now because the producers are terrified of continuity and character development. :S Still, the premise is pretty damn awesome, and the chemistry between Merlin and Arthur is the heart of the show. So it's worth watching for that, IMHO. :D

I feel odd. I like it up here, quite a lot, to be honest. I'm enjoying my time here immensely. And I haven't been doing anything. I've just been in the flat, nursing a cold that I think it's more of an ear infection than a cold, and reading a bit (not much, really), and watching Doctor Who on Netflix via my sister's account and her blue ray.

It's fine.

I'm happy. I still don't know what I'm going to do with my life, and I still feel like I'm wasting my time every single second of my existence, but I'm happier here. It's quiet. It's peaceful. It feels like what it is--I'm taking a break and trying to figure things out.

The next step is overcoming my cold and my laziness and getting out of the flat in spite of the hot, humid weather. I'm only used to hot and dry, not hot and humid! I feel like my face is melting when I step outside. So I need to stop being such a lazy ass. I've been here for a week and only today I went out on my own--to a convenience store to buy snacks. (Though I've been doing other stuff with my sister... We watched the fireworks yesterday. It was lovely.)

You know me, I can't be tamed.

Orange Days

Clearly, I've been traumatized by Merlin and I was afraid Orange Days was going to turn out crappy, but it didn't. It was the most beautiful, perfect ending. God. It was so good I can't even properly review it. I cried.

After who knows how long, I'm watching a Japanese drama again! This was, pretty much as almost every other good drama I've ever watched, a recommendation from javiera from many years ago. I finally got to watch it and... I love it so far! I'm on ep 8. However, I want to vent about something.

Okay. Finally. FINALLY Sae and Kai got together. As it was meant to be because they're awesome (and god why, why did Shibasaki Kou had to cheat on Tsumabuki Satoshi, they were so perfect..ly good looking together. ; ^; I will forever ship them) together and adorable and I couldn't care less about the other characters, I only care about them getting together. XD And it's happened. But there's... ugh. I know, I've got the feeling that something bad is going to happen.

Either Sae's going to lose another one of her senses (her sight, likely) or she's gonna die, and I don't like neither of those!!!!! Why, why can't they just be happy with their lives and move on from where they are to better places? Why does everything have to be so fucking melodramatic, why to the women have to DIE to teach the main male character a sort of life lesson or after they did it?!?! WHY?!?!

UGH. I swear it--if they don't end up together I am never watching a Japanese drama again. And. I hope it's not the case because I still need to finish Kizarasu Cat's Eye and Tiger and Dragon. x(

That said, I'm going to watch episode 9.

I hadn't thought of voting for Alibi, since I wanted to vote mostly for songs that are sung by all of them, rather than solos or sub-unit songs (Zutto is lovely ; u; but we've got lots of TegoMasu songs by now), but somebody pointed out that it was the only song actually performed by the four current members, so yeah, Alibi it is. :) I even reactivated my old Yahoo! account to vote! I also tried to balance songs from the albums, I think I've only got like two per album and the rest are single B-sides. Well, that's it. :') I'm in a happy NEWS fangirl high right now.

Everyone's talking about the Oscars on twitter. I hate the Oscars. Why? Because when I was a teen I always wanted to watch them, but I didn't want to go to bed late because I had classes at 7AM, and they were always done very late, by midnight or so, and afterwards I had insomnia, and it caused me angst. Somehow every time the ceremony is mentioned, I feel that angst again. WTF? XD And also because they remind me that I'll never be famous, rich or beautiful, and at the same time they brainwash me into thinking that's all I should aspire to. :P

And I'm irritateeeeed, because it's laundry day! And guess what? I left my door open last night so the noises my parents made when they woke up would wake me up too... but when my dad woke up, he closed the door to my room so he wouldn't bother me. That, combined with my ability to ignore the alarm, resulted in me waking up almost at noon. Blergh. I hate laundry days. Well, I only hate them in days like this, when I'm supposed to be working on my thesis, or on a paper, or on anything, really, and I haven't done anything, and I'm just "bleeeerrrgggh!!!"

Aaaand basically I'm throwing a tantrum because I don't want to do anything. Dx

The Woman in Black (tun tun tuuun)

I've been working hard on my thesis, people! You should congratulate me or something, hah. :D At this rate, I think I'll finish by the end of the month. :D Or almost finished. Either way, I'm excited.

But today I took a break, and I went to watch The Woman in Black.

Now, I'm not exactly good analysing films, to be honest. I don't pay much attention. But I'll try to write a review because I really liked it! In spite of it being clichéd and a bit slow at times. Spoilers ahead!

First of all, Dan Rad. :P I had read some comments on line about him not being very convincing on his part. He's obviously not a very good actor, to be honest, but he tries. He had difficulty with certain scenes, and I think he might not be mature enough to portray a father. It's not a matter of him being too young for the part. I think his age is perfectly acceptable, and believable even, since he's a young widower. But his performance lacks something. He has some good moments, though, so not all hope is lost for him! I'm kind of fond of him because he seems to be one of the very few Potter kids who care to do some work (along with Tom Felton~~, and more recently Emma Watson, but I don't like her, bitch XP~~), and because of some really cool things he says in interviews, hah! :D So I hope he'll have a good acting career.

Now, for the movie. I think it's clichéd, in the resources of which they make use to scare you, and in the story. It's a classic ghost story, and I like it because of that. I particularly like that it has all these cool elements like spiritualism, creepy dolls, creepy kids, ghost screams, rain, fog, a haunted and isolated house... It's kind of text book, and I enjoyed it because of that.

But there's also something. I think what I enjoyed the most about the movie was the changing POV. We see things from Arthur's POV, we see things from the woman in black's POV (which is horribly, horribly creepy... I think seeing things from the POV of the ghost is the scariest thing ever), and we see them both, as the audience. That POV is constantly changing and it's pretty cool. Especially at the end. I think the end, the very, very end, is great.

Because, you see, I think the villagers got it all wrong. The woman doesn't come to take a kid because she's been seen--she does it because she's seen someone. And in the end, when the woman turns to the camera and looks at the audience, is quite spooky! Beware! The woman has seen you, she's gonna take a kid. Brrr.

So yeah, give it a shot if you're in the mood. It might not reinvent the genre or be the most brilliant ghost story ever, but it has its good points. :3 I kind of wanna watch it again... And save it for a stormy night. :3

EDIT: I forgot to add... When they were burying the kid's body, I was like, "You idiots, that's not how it works! You need to spread salt on the corpses and burn them!!" Sheesh, it was obvious the spirits wouldn't go away with just that! Ugh. Why can't people do anything right? Dx Why do we have to call the Winchesters to deal with a simple case of haunting? Really!

Arrrrggggh... I had written a happy post but then stupidly close the tab and lost it all.

Well. Let's make an abstract.

I've been steadily writing at least 750 words a day! :D And I've been working on my thesis and having lots of fun with it, actually. I made cookies, delicious cookies. I joined an RP on tumblr, I'm Arthur! I'm the lamest gamer ever, but I'm having fun. Also we need more players, so if you like Merlin, do consider joining us! :D

I signed up for this round of jentfic_remix and looking forward to it!

And I'm learning to read the cards~ with a Rider-Waite tarot. Also I'm back in my science fiction class! YAY!

The first trailer of The Hobbit is finally out and I think I almost got a heart attack. I smashed my keyboard on Twitter, tumblr and FB, but now I've recovered the capacity to express myself, I shall say... it's adorable. A slightly grumpier Bilbo than I'd imagined, but really, it's Martin Freeman, that was bound to happen. :D

I feel like reading The Hobbit again, this time in English. I think I'll buy it for Kindle so I can look up words in the dictionary easily. xD

OMG I'm just so ridiculously excited! I'm calling the next following days the Fangirl Fest because:

I finished my internship/work thingy today.

I graduated a week ago.

I'm officially free. Well, no, not really--I still need to finish a random job during the next few weeks, and I still need to finish my thesis, but that can wait until the New Years, I suppose.

I've got like 100 unread posts on Google Reader, I won't be able to catch up with my friend list and I've dozens of tabs with Merlin fanfiction opened in three different Google Chrome windows.

WTF?

I've got dozens of books I wanna read, dozens of TV shows I wanna watch, and films, and dozens of fics I'm meant to write, and... I'm just here. Wasting my time. Drifting.

I feel weird. o.O A bit frustrated. Happy. Excited. Scared. Well. This is random post.

Yesterday I went to university to hand in my grades (long story short... I needed signed evaluations of my thesis), and do other paperwork... it's over, guys.

My major, that is over. I've finished it. I mean, I only need to finish my thesis now, but I can do it in a few months, I believe. I wanna get my degree before March. But it's over. Finally. I'm finally done with that.

I don't even know what to feel. After that, I came home, but got busy with Merlin-related stuff, then met a friend I hadn't seen in ages, then came back home and kept getting busy with Merlin-related stuff. But now that I'm bored of Merlin because of its shitty episode, I'm just...

What the hell is going on?! XD

Today's Merlin episode sucked so much I almost don't wanna keep watching the series at all

Really, it was that bad. I mean, not the episode on its own, I think that was well written, and the actors were particularly amazing. But... in the sense of plot, of the story, on what it did for the story and the characters... it sucks. It was a terrible, terrible mistake. It was awful. And I'm not saying this because of my ships or because of the MELODRAMA. I like melodrama a lot, when it's well written. This was just bad, terrible writing, ruining the legends big time. Just a bit too much. I mean, I keep asking myself, how do they let them do this?! The writers and creators, I mean! Honestly. Doesn't anyone ever tell them, before they start shooting, before they finish the scripts, how terrible the writing is?! I'm appalled.

But well... I guess not everyone's as awesome as Moffat and Gattis. :(

Don't watch Merlin. Or do it, but focus only and only on Merlin and Arthur's relationship. That's the only well-written thing about it. Everything else mostly sucks. :/

The fandom. All right, I love the fandom, it's awesome. Fics are great. Everyone on tumblr produces neat graphics that make me laugh all the time and añslkdfjasdf it's awesome and we're hysterical and us Merthur shippers are possibly deranged but we don't give a fuck. Except. Merthur ain't gonna happen. I know it. Ever since I became a slash fangirl (more than 10 years ago), I've always known that none of my OTPs are ever going to be canon. Ever. I mean, some of them, but it's so strange, it rarely ever happens. I'm thinking, what... Touya/Yukito?

But Merthur shippers are all... I dunno, they DO want it to be canon. And I do want it to be canon, too, because it'd be cool, even if it would complicate the story a bit (although really, Guinevere/Arthur is so terribly bad written than it would make much more sense for Merlin to become Arthur's consort). But it's NOT going to happen. But then the fans go and do manips and awesome stuff and point out why it should be canon, why it makes sense it would be canon, why there are many things in the story the writers could pick up and tie them all up nicely into Merthur being canon, and it sucks because I know it won't happen but I'm hoping again. :(

And when you ask yourself why can't Merthur be canon, the answer's probably "because the world's full of homophobes." -__- Because if you give me the anachronistic explanation (as in, it's the Middle Ages, how could a King possibly marry a man and his servant at that?), well, sorry, but how could a King possibly marry a servant girl? And really, the show's full of anachronisms, they don't give a shit about the period! And nobody seems to be complaining about any of them except the fact that Gwen's black (seriously, dudes?). And if Merlin (or Arthur) were female, well, then there would be no questioning this, it would be all "will they, won't they." Wait a second, it's already will they won't they with the magic reveal, and you can read Merlin as the freaking romantic comedy of Arthur and Merlin.

What the hell am I going off about? :( Sorry guys, I need something fictional to be annoyed at. xD

And well, none of my Merlin OTPs have the slimmest chance of becoming canon, not even the het ones. :/ And yet I'm still watching. This is why I read so much fanction. XD

Whazzap?

Last week, I got an error when turning on my netbook, saying that there was an imminent HDD failure. I called HP costumer support and they will replace the HDD. Since it hasn't been a year since I bought it, the guaranty covers it and it will cost me nothing. I sent the netbook over yesterday, and I'll get it back in... maybe three weeks? :/ The family desktop works fine, though, even if it's a bit slow and it doesn't have some apps that I need, but yeah.

I finished the first draft of my thesis! Apparently, I'm doing well.Yay! I still have lots of work to do, but I know I'll be able to graduate and get my degree in March, latest? I really wanna get it soon so I can go visit my sis in the States. :3 Or maybe I'll travel somewhere else. I don't know, but I'm excited about finally getting over with my stupid major. :P

As for what I'll do next, I don't know. I was thinking going into publishing, but really working on my thesis has revived my love for academia... so I don't know. I really don't. But I know I can't stay here any more. :P I need to get out of my comfort zone.

Downloading fics and other stuff

I've finally caught up with Merlin! The writers still fail a lot of times, but overall it's pretty cool, and this season has been particularly good. I just hope we don't get much more angst, because my heart is still aching madly from the first three episodes! :'(

I've been reading some Merlin fics. Mostly modern-AUs, because I didn't wanna get spoiled. Now I can read everything, I guess. :D But that means I need to start downloading them. Now, the system I used for Sherlock isn't very good. I made three main folders: chaptered fics, one shots, and drabbles. Then, each one of them contains a Sherlock/John, Gen & other pairings, and crossover folder. Well, I believe I have a Mycroft/John and John/Lestrade folder in the one-shot section. :P

So far... what I've done with the only Merlin fic I've downloaded was a Merlin fics > One shots > Merthur > Angst. I suppose the genre will help when finding a particular fic? Sigh. I'm just too lazy to do the downloading now. I'll just put them in a folder and spend time downloading crap starting my next vacation. :P

I wish I could import my Kindle's browser bookmarks, though. That'd make things easier. Oh well, can't have it all.

Also, I decided to start reading Arthurian legends! Need to educate myself. And get ideas for fics that will never be written.

Let's talk about something else

So, aside from obsessing over Sherlock and patiently waiting for the next season, I've been watching Supernatural and Merlin. I watch Supernatural slowly, basically because every freaking episode makes me cry and I like to keep the angst levels in my life a bit lower. Still, I freaking love it. :D

Merlin is adorable. There are many crappy things about it, the worse being its bad writing. But the characters are adorable, and well, the slash makes me happy. I know Merthur (Merlin/Arthur) will never be canon, but theirs is still an epic bromance with lots of hints, and I adore it. So far I've only read AU fics, because I don't wanna spoil myself, heh. Not that it matters much, I've already spoiled myself on tumblr, but well, I try to keep it to a minimum.

And I lied, I'll talk about NEWS again. I'm feeling slightly better. I'm still sad and... well. But, like I keep repeating myself all freaking day, if NEWS have taught me something, it is to think positively. To never give up, to always keep trying, to look at the bright side. To see every change, no matter how painful it may seem, as an opportunity to grow and improve. And this is what I make out of this change. I'll continue to support all members. And even if the four remaining members never release any new material as NEWS, I'll always have what they've given us, and I'll treasure it. :) So, yeah, I've told that to myself during this weekend and I'm feeling better. I even wrote a fic to help me part with my KoyaPi-canon-ish ideas. XD

Well, I feel a sudden urge to keep writing, not only for this fandom, but for Merlin and Sherlock and Community, too. It's probably due to the fact that I need to bloody finish my thesis soon, heh, but I'll try to grasp the inspiration for as long as it lasts.

And speaking of my fucking thesis... I'm making progress! Very, very slowly, and not much, but at least I'm not so behind as I used to. And I'll have to work harder from now on because I'm supposed to have the first draft ready on November 25th. Damn! XD

That's all for tonight. :P I'll clean my room, go to bed. Get up tomorrow thinking positively about life in general and my head out of my ass to work on my thesis. Wish me luck.
