Hello! Looking for some advice on John's coat.

I just bought this lovely thing and need to add the braid decoration on the front. However, as it's Ralph Lauren, I'd prefer to be able to remove the braid if necessary. Any thoughts as to the best materials/method? Full disclosure: I'm a terrible sewer.

Also, it has the navy collar, but not the cuffs. Adding cuffs in a non-damaging manner seems like it would be rather difficult. Right?

Captain Jack's rank braids

So I'm back with another question. I've been able to find most of the needed items for Jack and now I'm starting on the details. I found a US Air Force coat from a surplus store (for $32!) and want to start adding the Jack touches.

I went looking for a black/light blue striped ribbon the other day and surprisingly couldn't find anything of the right width or color. I'm wondering what other Jack's have done to make their rank braids? And how did you attach it? (my mom recommended hot gluing the ribbon right to the coat...I felt that would damage the coat if I ever wanted to remove them.)

Looking for Countrycide Ianto items

I know Taritel Runya posted a few pics, but I wanted to say I was very proud of our Doctor Who invasion of All Con. So, of the few pictures I go to be a part of, this is one i found. Here's one of the better shots of me in Vincent Gear.

Here's the one companion shot, i know of, that i got in on.

Also, here's some more intricate shots I got with some of our regular group.

Believe me, switching between Vincent, the 4th Doctor, then Owen was a full time gig.

I pulled together Zack for some Owen Jack shots, and these are some of the few i really like.

At the early last of the con, however we were interviewed, and i had managed to find our Tosh, who I put into my lab coat, and we were interivewed by The NoobNews.com

Unfortunately, the Noobnews piece never aired. I felt slightly jilted, but i imagine they just didn't have the time to have some fans talk torchwood. Still, i guess that's the way it goes.

The last thng that's interesting is that we were shown in a piece by 8 Bit Mickey

We finally have an itinerary! DRINK AT THE PUB! (JACK's BUYING!)
(Some locations had to be scouted, and the weather wasn't cooperating along with real life, but here we go!)

Whoniverse Photoshoot - The Fourth Regeneration

First of all, anyone is invited to come, whether you have a costume or not. Its just a fun day of geekiness and exploring different parts of the Chicago area.

10:00am - Meet up at Eli's Cheesecake World and Cafe
(6701 West Forest Preserve Drive, Chicago, IL)
Eli's has a cafe that seats about 50 people, and will have breakfast goodies such as sandwiches, sugar free dark chocolate lattes, and of course cheesecake. Prices are really reasonable. They also have free wifi. The cafe opens at 9:00am. We will be there by 9:30am for anyone who gets there early. A true Chicago tradition to start off the day.

10:30am - Wilbur Wright College (City Colleges of Chicago)
(Narrangansett Avenue and Montrose Avenue, Chicago, IL)
One of our favorite locations from the past comes back. Wright College has a lot of open land, a building shaped like a pyramid and architecture that looks like futuristic buildings from the 1970's - perfect vibe for the Whoniverse. It also has free parking. We will meet in the B parking lot located off Neenah Avenue. With this location, we also have access to the interior of the building with its tubular tunnels and bathrooms!

1:00pm - LUNCH BREAK! (Will be decided on location.)

2:30pm - Scoville Park
(Oak Park Avenue between Lake Street and Ontario Street, Oak Park, Illinois)
This park takes us into Oak Park (for those familiar with the area it is downtown Oak Park where the Harry Potter book release parties were held), full of architecture, some flower gardens, a gorgeous World War I Memorial and right next to the Oak Park Library. Bathrooms in the library, ability to move around the city and decent parking. Bring quarters for parking, there are limited free spaces. Meters are $1/hour.

Follow-up - Several of us were going to grab dinner at Flattop Grill one block down Lake Street. You are invited to come with. If you are a student, they have discounts with your Student ID.

Look forward to seeing everyone and hanging out again! All locations are accessible by public transportation, plus a couple people will be driving, so carpooling is available as well. You do not need to join us all day (work, classes, etc.), which is why we have the itinerary - you can just meet us at the next location. If you want to double-check where people are, please PM me for my phone number. You can also follow the insanity by following TheatreGirl79 that day on twitter.

Owen Harper and the Singularity Scalpel

For the second day of All-Con, I premiered my finalized Owen Harper. I also had my singularity Scalpel made for this con, in the hopes that some of the other torchwooders would show up. Sadly, there was my good buddy Captain Jack, and we managed to finagle Tosh to get out of her Steampunk Gear and ask her boyfriend to double as Ianto. We were Gwen-less, but we still got interviewed for a Podcast.

So as soon as that information Airs, i'll put it up. As always, the lovely Heather Ameral took these great shots.

Chicagoland Meetup - Whoniverse Photoshoot: The Fourth Regeneration

Date: April 9, 2010
Time: 10:00am (Initially. There will be an itinerary. You do not need to attend all day if you can't, you can catch up with us on one of the legs of the day.)
Location: TBD, we will most likely find a coffee shop to gather in and then proceed to the first location.

This is the fourth Whoniverse Photoshoot of its kind. We take the cosplay pictures out of the hotel lobby and have some fun. We go to various locations around the Chicagoland area - past locations have included by the Adler Planetarium, Northeastern Illinois University, Dominican University, Wright College, park district, the Edgewater Beach Apartments - and we are considering new locations (leave a comment with what you think would be a great location!)

Possible locations are Millenium Park/The Art Institute/Grant Park, Naperville Park District, Schiller Park Forest Preserve, River Park, etc. Part of this will be determined on closeness to public transportation (all are pretty accessible, plus we can ride share), cost of facility and parking (If you ride share, please consider offering to pay part of the parking, or gift a fanart or something nice.), and unnecessary crowds.

Such a day could result in Time Lord poker at the Subway, and even making a fanvideo for "Chicks Dig Time Lords." (Might even consider another "movie" if anyone is interested at the end of the day.)

So, come on out! Rev up the TARDIS and get all pilots on board, leave a note with Mr. Smith, and ride the Rift Manipulator to our next get together!

As i'm a plus sized lady these are not exact matches but these are things that will suitiably pass for various characters.

I'm selling them on as i've lost alot of Weight and they no longer fit me.

Okay, I have been working on two of the Torchwood boys costumes, and variations, so I am looking for some feedback.

Dr. Owen Harper

This is Owen from the S2 episode "Meat." It is pretty canon except that my glasses are not as thick as Owen's were (his looked more like The Doctor's glasses while these are my actual glasses), and he did not have the small line of white ribbing on the edge of the sleeves and collar. Exact shade of denim on the jeans and even a white t-shirt under the vest. I just don't know what kind of shoes he wears, so I went with the usual boots. This is from the second day of the episode, when they all take the retcon.

This is from the beginning of the S2 episode "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang." Owen is wearing a white, short sleeved shirt with one pocket in the episode when he is shooting at the blowfish and tending to the shooting victim. He then changes clothes back at the Hub to the t-shirt we are familiar with form that episode.

About the labcoat... I do not have the actual badges, although my friend JB has deciphered what most of them are, so I have taken to filling it with various Torchwood-esque badges ("It's not camping until you can't see over the bodies", "Holy Inappropriate Touching Batman!", etc.). I think that should be okay.

Ianto Jones

This is parts of my S2 costume from "Meat." I was so excited that I found the tie! (Probably more excite than I should be.) I figured my shirt (although it is technically a woman's cut) should work for the time being because it is the same shade blue.

And these are my Ianto style outfits. he does wear the red shirt with just the waistcoat and sleeves rolled up, but I don't think the tie is correct. The blue one was a variation for ACEN, the red set was for the second Whoniverse Photoshoot in April.

Now on to the big questions...

I am starting to build costumes. It would reason that someone who has done theatre for as long as I have should attempt this. I am building the Gwyneth dress (DW S1, "The Unquiet Dead") for a friend, and for the same friend (Why yes, she does like Eve Myles...) I am building from scratch the PC Cooper Police Coat. For this I need help. If ANYONE has close-up shots or non-blurry shots of this coat and their police badges I would love you. I need these close-ups. I have the nylon and everything, just need to figure out the exact placement of the blue and white checkered stripes and how the "HEDDLU POLICE" is done.

In that same vein, I am building a Margaret Blaine costume for myself, and I am going to attempt building a pinstripe suit to complete the "Meat" Ianto outfit. I need advice on how to deal with pinstripes. I also need to know if anyone has a pattern for a men's suit. I have found shirts, trousers (kind of) and waistcoats, but no suit jacket and stuff. I even have a pattern for a tie, but nothing for a suit. I could really use the help. I want both Margaret and Ianto done for Chicago TARDIS.

I also have a pattern for Owen's blue shirt, the one with two pockets, that he wears in several episodes and promo shots. I just don't know what material and what shade blue will work perfectly.

Also, does anyone have closeup shots of the hand in the jar and the Resurrection Gauntlet?

So, we finally have things narrowed down.

10:00am - we will meet at the Starbucks located at 1070 W. Bryn Mawr Avenue, Chicago, IL (Bryn Mawr, by Sheridan, right next to the Bryn Mawr red Line stop on the CTA L line)

Then we will move over to Ostermann Beach at Bryn Mawr and Lake Shore Drive. The beach works well for shots like Cardiff, Bad Wolf Bay, "The Curse of Fenric," etc. It also has a pier and a lighthouse, and we can get shots at the stones on the lake right by it, including one stone which is marked "HUB." There is a possibility of getting some shots by the EBA, that we are still waiting to find out about.

LUNCH BREAK

1:30pm - River Park/Legion Park on Foster Avenue between Virginia and Albany Streets, Chicago.
There is a Riverwalk, along with beautiful trees, bushes, benches, athletic fields, along with free street parking. It is right by North Park University's athletic field.

After that other options are available, perhaps even a jaunt down to Millenium Park, but that will be decided that day and not everyone may go.

I been doing work on building Gray's costume for Gally 2011 ... tonight i got the trousers (finally) put together and so i'm nearing completion!!! all that's left for me to do is fixing lengths, finishing edges, putting the straps on , and rolling around in a puddle of mud for a while.

(and yes, the pink socks totally add to the menacingness that is Gray)

BTW, Mods? could we get a tag for Gray??

Date: Saturday, October 23, 2010
Time: 9:00am at a nearby Starbucks (once locations are finalized)

Locations are still being finalized, but the third Whoniverse photoshoot will be here before we know it. If you have any suggestions on locations, sonic it on over to us. It has been suggested that we revisit a location or two from the previous shoots, that is being taken into consideration.

We will meet up at a local Starbucks to coordinate everyone and there carpools can be arranged. We are trying to keep the locations as near as we can to public transportation as well.

The first two photoshoots were fun and awesome and we cannot wait to see everyone again, we also can't wait to meet the newbies. If attending, or possibly attending, please leave a message about what costumes you are bringing. (Note: You do not need a costume or cosplay to come and join us, the craziness is still a blast.)

We had a fantastic time this year at SDCC, though the three of us only spent one day in full Torchwood costume together (Sunday) and were short our Tosh and Owen who couldn't make it to the con. We made it over to the huge Doctor Who/Torchwood gathering in the Sails Pavilion and had a great time there snapping photos, much like the one above.
