open ♡ believe me darling
Who: Nene Yashiro & You!
Which: Open Log
Where: Riverein
What: Star showers, capybaras, and a little mermaid!
Warnings: None yet, will add as necessary!
i. stormy skies
( it shouldn't have caught her off guard like this- the clouds in the sky were obvious, and she may be worried about what happened last month but that didn't mean she was completely careless as she was out walking. ... except it did, and she was. but honestly, despite the unpleasantness of it all, nene finds herself walking slowly anyways- occasionally pausing to hold out her hands like she's catching the rain, as the water hits her skin and leaves pale-rose pink scales. normally she might try to hide this, but with everything that this town was... would it be so bad? --wait, is that something else coming down- depending on her luck, one might just catch nene getting beamed in the forehead with a starfish, or narrowly dodging one with a squeak. )
ii. catch a falling starfish and put it in your pocket ( dream board )
( it's a little concerning, how many of these little glittery guys are scattered across the cobblestone. but she has a clean broom and dustpan at least, alongside a jar of saltwater she's wrapped cords around to make a carrying harness hanging over one shoulder. it's a little slow, honestly, but she's nothing if not a hard worker. so this is how she spends time between the harsh storms- sweeping up the still-living starfish and keeping them safe and hopefully clean. but if you aren't watching your step... )
Ah- careful, there's a few more I need to get.
iii. get them a bath with some tangerines! ( dream board )
( you ever just... lay on the ground with a couple capybaras? no? well if how content nene looks at the moment is any indication, it may be worth a try. as it is right now, she's simply vibing. chilling, if you may. and man, does she look comfortable. after a moment, she sits up ever so slightly to look at whoever's stumbled upon her and then smiles. )
They're really friendly!
( girl please )
iv. its free craft supplies ( dream board )
( mid-cleaning up the remaining starfish- the ones that didn't make it? or simply copies of the living? she's not sure she wants an answer, honestly- nene holds one of the little rocks up, looking at it intently. they're so small, even her fingernails seem bigger than them. ... )
Hey, do you think we could use these? What would you make?
v. wildcard!
( got an idea? want something specific? shoot your shot or catch me at my plurk for plotting! i also wanted to do some foraging, but was having a hard time with a prompt. so we can do something with that too! )

Nene is over to hang out, and also for Miss Christine to keep her company. Phantom had been settling something, but now he descends the steps to find her. ]
... is there anything you want for your birthday?
[ For an assassin, he's not so good with concealing his personal intentions, especially when it came to children. Best to be up front. ]
no subject
( admittedly, after... like, the whole? everything at the end of the month, she'd been so caught up in making sure he was okay that she'd forgotten just about anything else. help out around the studio, make sure he's resting and if he looks like he's beating himself up, distract him with something. it's... not perfect, especially given the fact that they're still in the process of learning about each other, but she couldn't help with the nightmare at all. so this is something she can do at least. right?
so yeah between trying to care for phantom and playing with miss christine, she's completely caught off guard by the question honestly. )
Ah... OH, right, that's this month now- ahhhh, I haven't really thought about it!
no subject
You have time to think, [ he says after a moment: ] two weeks or so.
no subject
( after a moment, nene pauses what she's doing and plops into a chair beside phantom instead, chin in hands. )
Have you done anything fun for your birthdays?
( ... it kinda feels necessary to ask, since he seems kinda... sad all of the time. )

Catch a Falling Starfish
Arf?
(Anya has been trying to avoid getting the falling starfish on her or Pooka since the weather has been acting weird lately. But today has her thinking back on the music box and necklace she had gotten from the regain baubles from the previous month.
And she has almost stepped on one if it weren’t Nene telling her of the starfish on the ground.)
Is there anything I could do to help?
no subject
( nene holds up the jar hanging over her shoulder, about half-filled. )
We gotta save the ones that aren't in water, first... oh and you're okay, I just? Don't know how resilient these guys are-
( what if stepping on them hurt them........ )
no subject
Bark, bark, bark!
Oh Pooka, you want to help out with the starfish rescue too?
(The little dog barks diligently as a yes with his tongue panting in a steady pace.)

Ah! Sorry...!
[She falls back, but not before checking there aren't any behind her on the sidewalk as well.]
Some of them are so small, they're almost hard to see...
no subject
Ahh, yeah, especially if you aren't really close to the ground.
( let her get these ones up real quick though- she sweeps them up and prepares to pick through the pan for the actual starfish to drop into the jar. )
no subject
This better? [With a cheeky smile.] I find that some of them blend in a little with the ground, what with all the rain. It's so shiny that it can be hard to see sometimes.
[Her hand presses firmly on the cement, but she motions to Nene's broom.]
Got a spare one of those?

...Or work. Her second home. Same difference.
When Nene calls out, Susato is picking at something on her wrist. A pesky starfish about the size of her nail that was being stubborn, even in death. She looks up though, stopping just in time and with a smile. ]
Oh! Nene...! Hello... Are you collecting them, too?
no subject
( sweep sweep sweep... though once she's gotten a few into the pan, nene idly picks each one out to drop into the jar. it's a hard job, trying to keep dirt out of the jar too, but she'll likely have to switch them to another one once she gets home. )
--Is one stuck on you?
no subject
Yes, I'm afraid so. [ While Nene sweeps some more, she continues picking until she finally pries it off, leaving a mark like a sunburn. She's happy to get it off though, even if it is already dead. She turns to show off her starfish free wrist. ]

...Only to be more surprised by what he sees.]
...Nene? Are you...sleeping with them?
[girl.]
no subject
( because that's so much better.
but really, if you have the chance to cuddle a capybara, would you not take it? ... assuming you are not eustace, who is very dignified. )
no subject
But they are not.]
...Hanging out.
[Said in a voice that is not quite believing.]
As long as they're not harming you.
[They seem friendly and peaceful, but you just never know with this place. Or, more likely, she looks like the type that if she was asleep on their back and they moved, they'd just take her away with them.]

( that said, she has no desire to get hit by any more... whatever those were. so don't mind her scrambling into the shade of a storefront's veranda. )
Did you see what that was?
no subject
...a starfish?
[How strange... but then Chongyun lets out a little cry of his own as another one falls on his head.]

iv. let's craft together! ♥
The girl next to her speaks up, and Hilda is quick to look her way with a smile.]
I don't see why we couldn't use them. Otherwise they're probably going to end up in the trash, right? I bet they'd make really nice beads for a necklace or a bracelet or something. All you'd need to do is push a needle through them to create a hole.
How about you? What are you going to do with them?
no subject
( a necklace would be so nice... oh! or barrettes maybe? )
Oh! I bet if you added some to a headband, it'd look really pretty!
( but that's a thought to put to action later, probably. right now there's still starfish all over to clean up, so nene returns to gently prying them off whatever they're stuck to- a bannister, this time, leading into a building. )
no subject
If you can sew, then it's not much of a stretch to get into beadwork. I bet you'd be a natural at it. Like with your headband idea--that would be adorable.
[Headbands aren't really Hilda's favorite accessory to wear, but she bets a starfish-beaded headband would be really cute on Marianne back home. Or on this girl here.]
If you're looking for guidance, I don't mind teaching. I love this kind of stuff.
I'm Hilda, by the way. What's your name?
