Paul Hackett Deemed Unfit for Duty
I just put this on blog so I'll put it here too because it sums up my disgust!

We need a new political party in this country. What is it with the Democratic Party? I have really had it with them now. As you probably know by now, the Democrats in Ohio (and probably on the national level) forced out ultra-charismatic candidate Paul Hackett, who was running for the Senate in Ohio. Here is what a writer on DailyKos had to say about Hackett late last here. It's enough to make you sob into your latte:
That's enough to give you an understanding of this man if you're unfamiliar with him. He was like Barack Obama - he just had that "thing" people need to win elections. I didn't even agree with him on everything but I would have voted for him because he was REAL. I can even sympathize with the thinking behind the Democrats: stay true to party ideals with the "safe" guy who's on board with the platform and won't say or do anything off the wall. Just like they tried to destroy Howard Dean (who, it turned out later, was exactly who George Bush DID NOT want to run against) the Democratic Party tries to rid itself of everyone who doesn't fit the mold. That strategy doesn't work for Democrats anymore. The Democrats should be the party of free thinkers, those with the good ideas, people who are wise, those who "Think different". But find someone like that and look what happens. Have they had ANY success with this plan of homogenous candidates? NO. Did they completely forget the past successful campaigns of other "outsiders" such as, dare I say it, Jesse Ventura, and even Paul Wellstone? Those were two rebels who were elected against all odds, but in today's cookie-cutter climate emphasizing homogenous candidates above all else, it's no wonder Democrats lose elections. Anyone "different" is rejected.
What really blows my mind is that they encouraged his donors to stop giving money to his campaign and then told him later. What are they thinking? And, am I the only one who was disappointed by John Kerry's utter BLAHNESS? Good gawd, we need candidates that can WOW a crowd and have charisma in buckets, not shot glasses, if we are ever going to defeat Republicans. That the Democrats would underhandedly do this to their best choice is unforgivable, and just another reason I've totally given up on them. If I lived in Ohio, (and I don't, so forgive me Ohioans,) I'd encourage Paul Hackett to run as an independent or on another party ticket such as Reform or "Other". Start a Populist party! It's time to shake up the completely ineffectual Democratic Party - they have finally become what the Republicans have accused them of being. I'm disgusted. Why not just give the country to the Neocons for the next 50 years? What the hell, right?
You can still email Paul Hackett with your support or other suggestions here.

"I Just Met Paul Hackett. He's the One.

. . . . It was a full moon and probably the warmest November night on record in eminently bombable San Francisco, and Paul Hackett was holding a small fundraiser at Schroeder's in the Financial District.
I can only call it a privilege to have been part of that intimate crowd. Trust me, Paul Hackett will be elected to the U.S. Senate from Ohio next year. No two ways about it. Not to sound too awestruck, but the guy has Clintonian charisma and the most matter-of-fact way of simplifying an issue. Others may call themselves non-career politicians. Well here, folks, is a true non-career politician."
