New Contest! The FIRST Tri-Writing Tournament!

Welcome to The FIRST Potions and Snitches Tri-Writing Tournament (annual):

This is the first of an annual event. There will be three rounds of writing challenges. Just like the Triwizard tournament each contestant gets points. At the end, the one with the highest number of points is the winner!

Round One: Submit a one-shot for consideration, whether it has already been written and posted by you or a new one you will write just for the first task. Deadline is October 1st. Prompts may be requested by the author.

Round Two: By November 1st write and post a Halloween or fall themed story. Prompts may be requested by the author.

Round Three: Write a Christmas or winter themed story by December 25th. Prompts may be requested by the author.

Voting will be done after each round, and the final tally after December 25th.

Winners will be announced January 1st. In case of a tie, a final show down round may be announced at the judges' discretion.

We are having a Summer Fic Fest on Potions and Snitches. Entries need to be posted before September.

Summer Fic Fest 2015 Rules:

Write a story based off of a summer theme that incorporates one or more challenges. The Fest will close August 31. We will then open comments for which stories to award featured status, and then vote. Please add your stories to the category Fic Fests -> #18 Summer 2015

Could someone help me

Someone in one of the fanfiction groups on facebook is looking for a certain story. I figured it'd be in PAS list somewhere :)

Here's what they said;
Harry looses his memory at the end of first year and goes home with snape. There's two sequels and it has spanking in it. I can't find it. Does anyone know what happened to it?

It's not a Slash one, but mentor relationship or something of that nature. It sounds very interesting, and now I'd like to read it, lol

Great news! We raised enough money to upgrade the site to resource level 3. It should run faster now! I found a different way to upgrade and also discovered a discount code, so it was less than originally estimated. :) Hooray!

The site is paid and will now be up until January 2018!

Our costs for three years:
$191 for domain and server
$99.80 for resource upgrade to level 3

Filtering Fanfics

Hi there,

So I'm new to this community but was once very fond of Jan's list (I hadn't initially worked out that there was a whole website of Snape and Potter fics).

I'm looking for higher written quality fanfics. I've had some luck on AO3 but it's hard to find ones for the theme I'm after.

I know there's the chocolate frogs ratings but most fics appear to have 4-5 chocolate frogs which suggest the ratings don't follow normal distributions! So the chocolate frogs haven't been all that useful. Are there any lists of good fics on the website?#

Starting over with a new domain and host

I still haven't heard from animealam so I decided to go ahead and start over.

I figured out how to get on around the old domain name last night and downloaded the old site and database. I then purchased a new domain and hosting package. I am currently trying to upload the old site and get it running. This is the first time I am trying to learn and work with DNS/ domain names and things like that so it will likely take more time to be set up. I am guessing it will be up within the next week or so. After it's up I have to fix all the links and see how it runs before opening it to the public.

All the reviews and stories will be exactly as they were when the site went down - no data will be lost. Please stop worrying about that.

When it is up I will post a link with the new url.

In the next couple of months I will probably set up a fundraising page so that the site will be community funded from now on.

No news, I am working on trying to get the webhost to contact Animealam, hoping that they have her phone number. I am also working on finding a different log-in page from the host to retrieve the current database.

I was set back with illness this week and was unable to work on it. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The Potions and Snitches website has been down since the beginning of January 2015.

I am still waiting to hear from animealam, our website account maintainer. She pays for the hosting and for the domain name. I believe the domain name just expired. Once I hear from her I will see about transferring ownership to myself so we won't have this happen again. I am hoping she is okay. Worst case scenario we buy a new domain/host and load the last saved database and stories we have and make up what we lost from there. I will likely wait another month or two before doing something so drastic. Hopefully we won't have to. I will work on getting the current database and files from the servers as soon as I can figure out how to log into the admin without needing to go through the www.potionsandsnitches.net domain. In any case, Potions and Snitches will not die so do not worry about that. :)

Hi everyone, Potions and Snitches is back up.

Per animealam on the site news:

"We are experiencing some problems with the webhost, and I'm looking into it. It appears we are somehow overloading the server, and the account was suspended. I'm working on it, although I have yet to find what is causing this, as traffic to the site has been lower than it was last year.

Please be patient, and do not upload any new chapters until further notice as I'm going to do a full backup and run a few tests. I will turn off submissions.

Also, if any of you use a downloader like the Calibre Fanfictiondownloader plugin, the web version of it, or any other, I'll like to know, as this might also be the reason why we are overloading the server. I use the Calibre plugin on occasion, although not recently. There'll be a poll open, please participate as it's really important to check all possible problems.

Browsing will be available for those wanting to catch up on their reading, but this might change if I upgrade eFiction to the latest version. The site will be down for a couple of hours if that is the case.

Once again I apologize for the downtime, hopefully it will be resolved in a couple of days."

We think it may be a possibility that the overload was from people downloading all the stories from the site. The first warning was sent Friday. We blocked all the google bots and such to see if that helps.

We always keep backups of the site, saving all the stories and reviews and such periodically. Do not ever worry about loosing all the stories. We will always reopen the site on different servers if need be. If the site ever goes down in the future, do not panic. It will be back up.

"Account suspended"?

Tortured by Death eaters, rescued by Snape and Healer Ron

Im again in search of another Harry/Snape(Healer maybe) Gen fanfic and really need your help. I had read this story ages ago but will try to point some general points.
I think in this story harry was captured and tortured by death eaters and Severus rescued him. He got some fatal disease (cancer... maybe?). Severus got quite affectionate for him. Im not sure what happens then but Sirius, remus, fred, george, Nevile and ron were superly protective of him. And there was a scene when the golden trio was leaving railway platform for home(Harry was adopted by Severus or Sirius by then) Vernon arrived their and started to shout and manhandle Harry despite the fact that Harry was not going to Privet Drive. And then when weasley siblings + Hermione and Harry were sleeping on the floor in same room Vernon somehow abducted Harry without alerting anybody. Ron somehow noticed and when they found Harry he was really in bad condition(Vernon had tied his hands with iron thorned wires). Harry again got recaptured and tortured by Death-eaters and got pretty bad scarring(not sure but maybe got blind due to some potion). In the end Voldemort attacked Hogawarts and cast the killing curse to Harry after some crucios and hurtful taunting. The curse rebounded and killed Voldemort. Everybody thought that Harry had died but he was in fact kept alive secretly and after some day with the help of Healers his cancer was destroyed.
There were also many sequels an in a sequal:
Harry did something silly and he was expecting punishment from Sirius as it shows that parents love their children. But Sirius being Sirius didnt gave him as it will make him a less cool parent-figure. In some scene Severus shouted on Harry and never apologize, Ron and Hermione started dating so Harry felt that he was unloved. Also Harry was being treated by a healer who turned out to be Malfoys follower (Malfoy was turning into another Dark Lord). So naturally the potions turn out to be slow poison. Harry somehow again captured by Malfoys Goons and together with Draco maybe ran from Malfoy Manor. Short story, Harry got in coma and the Mungo's Healer told that Harry didnt wanted to live so he will not survive. Oh! and in the end Ron becomes Harry's Healer.

Hi,
I I had been trying to find this story for ages but cant find it.
so your help will be really appreciated.

This is the harry potter captured and tortured by death eaters along with Snape fanfic.
There Harry and Snape developed some bond (not slash!) and began to respect each other.
I think the whole story in that fanfic revolve around their torture plot. And, I think one of the death eater used some cursed knives on harry that will never heal and will reopen from even a scratch. In the end they were able escape but Peter Petigrew casted the killing curse on Harry and Snape thinking Harry died took his body to Hogwarts. But somehow Harry had survived the curse and his horcrux was destroyed.
Their was also a sequel in which harry glamoured as Snape's Nephew or son lived in hogwarts and was mistreated by Ron. Their were also some other sequels of this story.

         “A cat!”

         “Shh! Just listen, Dad!” Harry put his finger on his lips. He turned his head upward.
         After a second Snape heard it too. A tiny meow came from the attic. The Potions Master’s knitted his brows.
         “I didn’t know you have a cat! Did you leave it here when you were in Hogwarts?” Harry asked enthusiastically. He nearly jumped with joy thinking that his father owned a pet.
         Snape shook his head. “No, Harry, I don’t have a cat. Maybe it is a stray kitty,” he answered briskly.
         “I think it’s a kitty too,” Harry whispered confidently. “Maybe it’s small like me,” he added quietly.
         Snape nodded. He knew from its meowing sound that it’s just a newborn kitten. His black eyes stared upward to the attic.
         “Can I look at it?” Harry asked hopefully. His green eyes shone brighter at the prospect of seeing a little kitten.
         “No, Harry, I don’t think so. I still have a lot of things to do. I want to clean up the house and arrange my books. Besides, I should prepare a room for you.”
         “But, I can go up by myself, Dad!”
         “I won’t let you.”
         It was summer. For the first week of the holiday, Snape already planned to stay at Spinner’s End. The house needed cleaning. The Potions Master cringed at seeing how thick the dust that covering most of the surface was. After sneezing for a hundredth time, he was satisfied that the room for Harry was decent. It wasn’t as big as Harry’s room at Hogwarts but spacious enough.

         Snape looked up from his books when he heard the mewling sound. He frowned exasperatedly. It had been two days since his and Harry’s arrival, and he noticed something about the kitten living in the attic. It always mewled in a strong tiny voice, day and night. Snape was amazed at how a days old kitten did that. The voice never wavered so he assumed that it was alright. He didn’t have the chance to visit it. There was much cleaning to do and having Harry at the house made him busy.
         “The kitten sometimes moves here and there, Daddy,” Harry said nonchalantly. He helped his father by arranging his own books into a smaller bookcase near the sofa.
         “I know. I hear it too, especially when it’s being noisy,” Snape sullenly muttered. “Surely it’s a very active kitten.”
         Harry nodded. He beamed at his father. “Is it really strayed?”
         Snape couldn’t miss the hopeful tone. “Nobody looks for it, so yes, Harry, I assume it doesn’t belong to anyone,” he carefully answered with anticipation.
         “Can I keep it?”
         That’s the dreadful question Snape was worried about. “I thought you didn’t like cats.”
         Harry grew quiet. Cats always reminded him of Arabella Figgs and the Dursleys. “But I don’t mind it when it’s mine.”
         Snape sighed. He put down the book he was cleaning and walked to his suddenly somber son. “I barely have time for myself. Having you is wonderful, Son, but I don’t have more time to share with a pet.”
         Harry blinked. He patted Snape’s hand understandingly. “I’m sorry, Daddy.”
         “Don’t be,” he told the six year old boy.

         Snape wished he knew more spells about housekeeping and cleaning. Apparently Spinner’s End had more dust than he had imagined. The garden also needed trimming. It looked like a wild garden with wild grass. Snape wished he had visited his house more often and had done cleaning here and there so that he wasn’t as exhausted as he was now and had more time to rest. He considered contacting Molly Weasley a couple times, wanting to ask for useful house cleaning spells. In the end he thought it wasn’t a good idea. He only had a son and Harry made him exhausted easily. He couldn’t imagine how Molly survived with more than he could count of her red headed kids. She already had a handful and didn’t need more.
         He was arranging his books when he was aware of something. He hadn’t heard a single mewl since that morning. He glanced at the clock and wondered why the kitten had been silent for hours. Usually it mewled enthusiastically. However, since yesterday Snape noticed that the mewling grew weaker. He was inwardly worried.
         The black haired man took a look at his son, who was playing with his dragon toy in his room. Silently he walked to the attic. He cautiously scanned the space, hoping that what he was thinking at the moment would remain just a negative thought. But what was in front of him said otherwise.
         Gingerly he approached the unmoving kitten. The attic was a bit dark but Snape knew his eyes wouldn’t betray him. Shakily he poked the kitten. It didn’t move. With a quick scan of his wand, Snape knew in an instant that it was dead. His anxiety was cruelly confirmed.
         It was a beautiful small kitten, with white and orange fur. It was still warm in Snape’s hand. Harry was right: it was very tiny. Snape was furious at himself, for not getting up to the attic sooner, and at its mother which had abandoned it and -judging from the kitten bony form-, never fed it. The man felt something burning his eyes.
         Harry wanted to ask a lot of things when he saw his father walking down from the attic. But seeing Snape’s agonized face, he only managed to ask, “Is it dead?”
         Snape cleared his throat. “Yes, Harry, it is,” he answered hoarsely.
         Somehow Harry felt that his father was more affected than him by the death of the kitten. The small boy noticed that Snape’s jaw was set hard and his posture was rigid. Harry saw regret in those black eyes.
         Snape didn’t say anything as he buried the kitten in the backyard. He had never thought that he could be very miserable because of a kitten he only saw once: when its heartbeat already stopped due to starvation.
         If the kitten came back alive, Snape would welcome it and never let it staved.

         Teddy patted Harry's back sympathetically. "I'm sorry to hear that," he said softly.
         "It's okay," Harry replied. "I hope the kitten is in heaven already and happy. And won't be hungry again." The boy stole a glance at his silent father, who was sipping his tea without saying a word.
         That weekend Sirius Black invited Harry, Snape, Lupin and his son Teddy to his house. Like usual. The boys would chatter and the men would courteously converse about Hogwarts, Harry, Teddy, and business. It had been awkward for Snape to chat with the two remaining Marauders, but for Harry, he was okay with that. He still disliked Sirius but James Potter had appointed the animagus to be the godfather of Harry in the past. Sirius insisted that he was included in Harry's life so Snape granted his wish, although with grudges. After being released from Azkaban, Sirius tried to worm his way into Harry's heart and mend the severe relation between him and Snape.
         "For Harry's sake," Sirius offered, and both men agreed. Snape agreed to come visit Sirius with Harry, while Lupin with his son. Grimmauld Place was more than enough to accommodate hundreds of people so the members of the Order liked to hang out there.
         "Daddy was very sad," Harry whispered in his low tone he thought only he and Teddy could hear. Apparently not. Sirius snickered and Lupin sent Snape a sympathetic smile. Snape glowered at his son, who didn't know it and kept talking with Teddy.
         Teddy's eyes widened. The boy looked at Snape and got up from the floor. He stood before Snape. The boy's eyes were black, and so was his hair, matching the Potions Master's.
         "Don't be sad, Uncle Snape. Maybe the kitten will become a ghost and live in your house. You won't feel lonely," he said smartly.
         Snape mentally groaned. He might dislike Lupin but he couldn't do the same to Teddy. The little boy inherited his father's kindness and got along with everyone easily. He knew how to win people's heart, including Snape's.
         In a chair in front of Snape, Sirius stifled a laugh. His shoulders were shaking uncontrollably. Lupin gave his best friend a warning glare.
         Harry gleefully jumped. "You're right, Teddy! I can feed the ghost. Can ghosts eat, Daddy? You won't be sad again, right?"
         In a flash Snape was surrounded by two joyful little imps. When Harry hugged him tightly, Teddy followed.
         Snape was secretly touched. He never thought that his son would concern about him that much, like it's the ex Death Eater who needed assurance and comfort instead of the boy.
         His happy thoughts were stopped when chuckles reached his ears.
         Sirius grinned at him, amused. "So, how is your summer so far?"
         Snape grimaced at his changing mood. "Bad, thanks to you."
         Nobody bought it, not when they saw that his face wasn't gloomy with guilt anymore.

I Need Some Help!!!

Hi, I just need some help finding what may or may not be two stories. I can't remember if it was all one or I've mixed two together. The story has a scene where Severus was hurt badly and stays at Private Drive. Some things happen but it ends up with Severus fighting Dursley breaking a table and rushing Harry away to his own home. No one knows what happened but Dumbledore performs a spell that shows what happened in the house. Sirius is still alive in it. There is another scene that may be the same story or not where Harry has to go to the ministry for dealing with dementors and Snape looks like Mr. Weasley and puts up with Mrs. Weasley kissing him. This was random but does anyone know this story?

Pop up advertising???

Looking for HarryPotter has pet puffskien... I remember two fics but I can't recall what their names are, or who the authors were, or where I read them.... I recall one fic where Minerva gifted Harry the Puffskien becuase it helps with the upper respiratory and allergies, also they make fierce protectors. The other story made puffskiens rather formidable as well as scavenger like, or possibly this was all in the same fic? Also the puffskien either ate pettigrew or killed a large dangerous creature.
I believe in each of the two stories Harry called his puffskien Lemon Meringue or Treacle or something like that and it alwas clung to his hair on the top of his head .... I think Severus became his adopted father or just mentor... would very much love any assistance in finding these two fics.

I can't otherwise review but here,because of my server, but JAWorley's Fix This was was one of the finest fics I have read in a while. A very clever take on the basic canon info. Few fics have it all: Heartbreaking/warming, thoughtful, drama, exciting, humor, even a touch of romance! Now that the relationship is altered, dare I ask for a sequel for the "what happens now?" since JAWorley has left me wanting more. if you haven't read this yet, I recommend it!

web site problems

The reason I am writting is because when I went to register with the web site, The security code is not coming up it is just a box with an X and it would not show the picture with th security code. Now is this just me or are other people having this problem? Please help!!

Hey PotionsandSnitches. I have loved reading your stories and joined here because of firefox being incompatible ... or something.
I discovered you through FF.net but I understand there is deleting going on and writers possibly leaving. Where are people moving their stories?
