Terminus 2008 is a Harry Potter con that is coming to Chicago August 7th-11th. Tons of speakers, activities, obsessed fans, games, etc!

I've been talking with angel423 and we've agreed that we should try to get any pepperimps members involved that we possibly can!

Registration is currently $160. For FIVE days of fun and Harry Potter! Throw it on your Winter Holiday lists, people!

Just trying to gauge some interest. You can read all about it on the website. We're trying to get a lovely little group together, since we've all been Potter fans *together* for ages, even though things have really slowed down around here.

I've got an acquaintance who seems like nearly a fangirl of my own Harry Potter fangirliness. The day the release date was announced, we saw each other on the sidewalk and actually ran into each other's arms, to hug and jump up and down and squee for a good five minutes, right there in the middle of the sidewalk in the cold. :)

She made a sign announcing the joy and hung it up in the commons, which is usually a priviledge reserved for student organizations. :)

Then, the next day (yesterday), we made countdown chains. :-D
I didn't have pretty colorful paper, but I figure mine can be white as a tribute to Dumbledore. <3

Harry Potter and the Socrerer's Stone came out five years ago today!
CoS came out four years ago yesterday! It was my first midnight showing/Harry Potter event ever. It doesn't seem like it's been that long...!

An OotP poster has been released. Eeeee.

I simply adored book five. But then, I am a total angst whore and a Cho supporter. It was like that book was written specifically for me. And Harry's dreams? DAAAANG. :-D!!!!!

I'm going to see Happy Feet to see the trailer... I mean, besides the animated dancing penguins. It's so cool, because I saw the Happy Feet trailer with GoF and now I'll see the OotP trailer with Happy Feet! Full circle.

So, I've been thinking of dyeing my hair red and being Ginny Weasley for Halloween, as it's an excuse to show off my sweet Gryffindor Hogwarts uniform without being Hermione a third time.

I was thinking about it last night. I was like, "Hmm... I don't have freckles, but Rupert Grint doesn't have freckles either and they let him play Ron. And I don't have brown eyes, either, but greenish-blue eyes look cool with red anyw--" And then I realized, oh my gosh, my eyes are a lot closer to green than to brown, and there's never any mention of Lily having freckles, and she was a red-haired Gryffindor....

So now, what to do? Be Harry's mum or Harry's special lady?
I have always secretly wanted to find "my James" rather than "my Harry" (because, let's face it, Harry's a bit of an idiot when it comes to the ladies).
So, like, would I rather be Lily, who was married and happily ever after (or happily until like twenty-two), and, like, getting to have sex and stuff?
Or would I rather be Ginny, who got to date Harry Potter for oh-so-short a time, and then he goes off saving the world and stuff?
And would people understand "Ginny Weasley" a heck of a lot better than "Lily Evans-Potter, Harry Potter's mom"? Yeah, I reckon...
Or maybe I could just privately think of myself as Lily and then tell people I was Ginny when asked by inferior fans?

hi everyone! sorry that i have been neglecting my livejournal... i've joined the myspace frenzy lol.
i just had to tell you about Harry and the Potters (b/c i know you love them!) i was so surprised when my mom told me that they were playing at the local library today. and i was like " Here? in Toms River? No way" so i went down to the library and totally rocked it out with Harry and the Potters. Awesomest show EVER! i'll post the pics and video clips as soon as i can!

Um, I think my school beats katethegreatest's school. And here's why.

Yes, she has her HP Appreciate Club, which roxorz muchly (considering she's the founder!), but SHU still wins for the following reasons:

1. It looks like Hogwarts.
2. They are the Red and Gold Gryffins
3. Their 2005 Homecoming? Included a Harry Potter Brunch, where people dressed up and were even given awards for best costumes.
4. Dr. Jerz (the journalism Professor) is Lupin. Seriously. He is Lupin. $100 says he's a friggin' werewolf.

And that's why my Uni brings all the dorks to the yard. Damn right, it's better than yours. ;)

But with Kate at Wheaton, I know they'll catch up soon. The joys of college! *hugs to Kate*

Well, I figure I ought to give at least a little update that actually updates more than saying I am alive and life is fantastic (which, in case you were wondering, I typed while kneeling on the floor and leaning over the person actually sitting at the computer. It was rather difficult.)

I shall write about Friday, because it was teh fun.

OK. First off. Harry Potter Appreciation Club started meeting. Yay!! It ended up being half a dozen of us down in Dows Lounge, from like 3:30 until almost five. It was really quite informal, but ohh the geeky joy. Turns out at least 4 of us were fans of Cassandra Claire... I so wish I were as fandomly famous as her. Wonderful fanfic writer. Man. And yeah. The geeking out sort of leaked over into other fandoms from time to time, as would be expected. But wow. What a fun time!

After that, Brandon and I got brown bags for dinner and had a little picnic by the pond. I met a couple of his friends, they seem nice.
We saw the geese arrive!!!!!!! It was so cool. :) The first geese of the spring. :) Yayyy.

(I also saw a couple of dandelions on Friday, too. :) Over by the library.)

That is to say...

WHOO HOO!!!!!!!!
I know we both own GoF on DVD already, but IMAX! WHOOO HOOO!!!!! (psst... morgaine723... thanks for the heads up on that one! :)) It was playing on the dome IMAX at the science center in Cedar Rapids. Ohhh how fantastic. On a dome! So big. So big. It wasn't up over our heads (probably fortunately), ohh so big though. So big! I tried to look at the scenery a lot. So cool. A far, far cheaper trip to Scotland. :)
And? Brandon is the most amazing driver ever. Mad skills. Completely avoided the famous Cedar Rapids Smells. No idea how. No idea how. But so amazing. Wow. :)

THEN! As it was Remus Lupin's birthday and I had that morning discovered a heck of a lot of chocolate my mom had sent me a few weeks ago that I had completely forgotten about, and obviously Lupin loves chocolate... birthday party! Birthday party for Remus Lupin!
And then of course I had to call Moony (firebread) to wish her a happy birthday and let her know we were celebrating. :) Yayyy so happy!

So, basically, Friday was a fantastic day of geeky joy. Ohhh happy. Happy happy happy. Ohh yes. :)

I'm starting this little thing (or... NOT little. We'll see) at my college called Harry Potter Appreciation Club. Our first little planning meeting thing is this Saturday. We'll talk about ideas of what we'll do, try to gauge interest somehow, and sort out or club constitution.

Anyone want to contribute to activity ideas? I've collected a somewhat hefty list so far (people like to contribute without even being asked), but who better to add suggestions that my favorite Imps?

Aw man. Today was my Spanish presentation. It was supposed to be about 15 minutes long, but it ended up being more like half an hour because the class just went so wild and kept asking all these questions and wanting to hear more Harry Potter music and... MAN! I felt so sorry for EVERYBODY ELSE IN THE WORLD because my presentation rocked SO MUCH.

I used a powerpoint presentation like a slideshow and showed off so many pictures, told so many stories.

Justine (angel423), thank you so much for all the details and pictures from The Witching Hour. A couple guys actually asked me when the next one was, and when I told them in July, they high fived and said, "WE ARE SO THERE!!"

One of those guys also asked me afterward where he could get a Ravenclaw outfit like the ones you and your lot got, Deva.

I also played the beginnings of Tony Goldmark's "Sirius Black" and Harry and the Potters' "Save Ginny Weasley" and got thanked profusely for them. And got people singing "Save Ginny Weasley" to themselves. :-D

And people in my class, and my teacher, cracked up a lot. :-D
I love making people laugh. It's on my interests list!

Oh, right, um... Deva, I didn't tell you I was using pictures you had, did I? :( But y'all are just so exemplary, and I can't imagine you getting mad over it. <3

Here is my powerpoint presentation. There's no words (which is just as well, because they'd be in Spanish), but you can kind of see where I went with it. And see how sweet my pictures were.

Kate asked me to talk about what TWH was so that she could use it for her project and since I had promised her these pictures a few days ago (sorry, Kate!), I figured I could just throw up a paragraph here and maybe convince some of you to come to Lumos this July (*pokepoke*).

Alright, so The Witching Hour, which took place October 6-10 of 2005 in Salem, Mass, was a Harry Potter ~~convention~~ symposium where about 1,000 adultish HP fans descended upon Salem for four days and created havoc! Ok, we also had a huge amount of awesome events to go to, lectures/roundtables/discussions/presentations to attend, and Quidditch matches to watch, but there was still a lot of havoc :) Each attendee was "sorted" into a House when they checked in on their first day and was given a lanyard that was colored based on their House so that the other people could tell who belonged where. Each House also had a Head of House- Roxanne Conrad was Slytherin, George Plitnik was Ravenclaw, Tony Toledo was Gryffindor, and Vicky Dann was Hufflepuff. Some of you may recognize a couple of those names as the four of them are quite accomplished and pretty famous people! Anyway, the point of having Houses was that throughout the run of TWH, you could win and lose House points by either doing nice things like volunteering, bribing the Prefects (attendees volunteered for this duty in advance) with liquor, or, as was my case, wearing an awesome shirt that a Prefect happened to see one day :). They kept track of the House points by using jelly beans in big jars and at the Leaving Feast on the last day the winning House got the prize of an actual House Cup to take home. Hufflepuff won, by the way. So, as you can tell by my rambling, a lot of the symposium was structured to mimic life as a student at Hogwarts. There was even a Dueling Club game that functioned a lot like that game called "Murder" where you have to sneak up on someone and such. It was fun watching people suddenly break out into a duel in the middle of the street, I must say.

Hmm, what else, what else. I already showed you guys the Quidditch awesomeness (there were both House teams and Professional Teams). There was a Halloween Ball on one of the nights where everyone got dressed up like Muggles and boogied on down. Every night at midnight they showed one of the HP movies in the hotel's ballroom and one night a bunch of the people there busted out and play acted some of the scenes which I hear was really hilarious.

The actual discussions and lectures and such were really great. If you have never been able to sit in a room with 50 other people and discuss the ins and outs of Harry Potter, you are missing out! Intelligent, amusing, and through provoking, most definitely. There were so many, though, that I fear I can't even start talking about specific ones because I will ramble on for pages!

There were also Rooms of Requirement that were set up for specific groups of people. For example, there was a Room of Requirement for each House, a Room of Requirement for all the different ships in fandom, etc. etc. Those were fun because you knew that everyone there loved the stuff you did and you could yammer and giggle about it for hours. Or, as happened in the Remus/Sirius RoR that Amanda and I attended, there was champagne and howling at the moon :)

I guess that is the major stuff, really. There was so much to see and do that my thoughts about it are all jumped and crazy and everytime I think of something, something else pops into my head and I want to talk about that. Really, in general, TWH was just a great time where a huge number of HP fans that were over a certain age could discuss and enjoy HP. There was never a boring moment, I assure you of that!

If anyone is interested in the next event being put together by HPEF, who put together TWH and the first gathering, Nimbus, why don't you stop by the Lumos site and look around. It's taking place this July in LAS VEGAS, woot!

Ok, ok, enough talk out of me. Kate, if you have any more questions I will be home all day so feel free to IM or email away :) And now, for waiting so patiently, have some Harry and the Potters pics like I promised.

	Voldemort attempts to stop the rock! In the middle of the song, "Voldemort Can't Stop the Rock" , the evil one did, in fact, think he (yes, I know, ignore the boobs) could interrupt the show.
	Get up, Harry! Lest you get confused, Harry did not actually die during the duel. I was told specifically that Voldemort was defeated and the rock, did in fact, continue.
	Becca and Amanda with Chris Rankin! Aw, man, so bummed I wasn't there! Although, I did ride an elevator with him about five minutes after Amanda and I checked in to the hotel on the first day. I ogled him from my little corner and then got away before he could see me in my "I just drove six hours and look like hell" glory :)

SO CREEPY! The whole Voldemort seeing himself in Harry thing, and vice versa (ooh those dreams in book 5! So hot.) is all so creepy! Ahhhh!!!!!!

Also, pepperimps layout advice/help is needed. The lovely lady_devanshire made a post-HBP header thing for us which is really cool and public in my LJ gallery if you want to see it... I tried putting it up in place of the present HBP-themed header but it so did not look right together.

Very very late Witching Hour photos!

Yes, I know that The Witching Hour was way back in October, but Kate mentioned land Quidditch and I recently signed myself up for the Water Quidditch matches that will happen this July at Lumos (anyone else going?!) and well...I thought these might be fun to show you guys!

The game setup was fairly simple, actually, but if you guys want specific details I would be glad to explain :) I also included a shot of northernsky_, a Pepperimps member, bravely taking on Snitch Runner duties during one of the matches.

	Even the non players have to show their spirit Yeah, I am so totally wearing my shirt right now, too :D
	Go Witch School! The organizers were so sweet and made up a bunch of felt flags in the team colors that the fans could wave about.
	The Cats use the abundant mud as war paint Nothing says intimidation like whiskers!
	Right before starting a match We destroyed the grass. DESTROYED.
	Beaters! If the Beater hit you in the leg with the ball, you had to freeze for ten seconds.
	Snitch chase How the snitches worked- the ref had a bag of various colored "snitches". Before the match started, a color would be chosen as the "golden snitch". The Snitch Runner would reach into the bag and pick out a snitch at random, hiding it in the orange handkerchief and then ran about the pitch. If a team caught a Snitch Runner and that Runner had the color that was the winning one, the game ended. The Snitch Runners ran out onto the field every five minutes or so.
	Amanda as a Snitch! Sorry, had to include the shot of one of our very own running around wet and muddy :)
	Muuuuuuuuuud Now that is dedication.
	The aftermath This is Becca, a girl we met at TWH. She played on the Witch School Pheonixes and well, you can just see how yummy her legs looked after the matches were over.

In one week, I have to give a 15-minute presentation on "anything that I'm enthused about" for my Spanish class.

So! Clearly, I am going to make it a live-action documentary of sorts about The Secret Lives Of Obsessive Harry Potter Fans.

Any suggestions you've got, pictures, etc., will be thanked with an online hug. :)

In other news, I'm starting an official Harry Potter Appreciation Club here at my college. Had a meeting with the person in charge of student activities today and everything. :) I'm thinking it will be largely grounded in discussion (with many ideas sprung from The Plot Thickens...), plus little updates of the latest Harry Potter news, plus random Harry Potter-themed events. Land-based Quidditch games and the like. :-D I will take suggestions & advice on that as well. I know some of you have Harry Potter clubs already, I'd love to hear all about them also.
