They don't shun the darkness, because that's where the crime is. It's the job of a Watchman to go into the dark places of the world, arrest the wicked, and drag them kicking and screaming back into the light. They're not strongly offensive (except in the case of one Corporal Nobbs), but they make up for it in their ability to take a hit like nobody else. ᴡᴇᴀᴋɴᴇssᴇs: Watchmen are wholly unsuited to anything to do with magic, and as a result have practically nothing to offer in that department. EXP	SKILL	DESCRIPTION
0000	The Arrest	An attempt to tackle an enemy to the ground. Deals weak damage, but has a 50% chance of Disabling an enemy and preventing them from using further actions. Continuing to keep an enemy subdued in this manner consumes the Watchman's turn, however.
0050	Call for Backup	Shout at a nearby ally for help, allowing them to use a non-Mastery/Melody/Supreme skill on either the Watchman themself or an enemy they're currently engaged in, without consuming the ally's turn.
0100	A Good Seeing To	A Watchman is not a knight- they're allowed to fight dirty, and in fact they have to, if they don't want to wind up dead. A physical attack that deals medium damage and has a 20% chance to leave the enemy stunned and either gasping for breath or writhing in pain, losing their next action.
0200	Throw the Book at Them	The Watchman dips into their expertise fighting as part of a group, and makes an attack that, while only dealing negligible damage by itself and forcing the enemy to stumble back a step, boosts the potency of the next ally's attack against the same target by 75%.
0350	The Summoning Dark	Enlist the aid of an ancient being of vengeance and justice. Doubles the potency of another skill or attack used this turn, but exacts a toll in exchange, sacrificing 25% of the Watchman's health. If used in conjunction with a damaging Skill, The Summoning Dark adds the Dark element.
0500	The Guarding Dark	Passive Skill. Watchmen are 50% resistant to Dark-elemental damage and the Berserk status. Increases to Berserk Immunity on mastering Watchman.
0750	Rise Up	The Watchman rallies their allies, increasing Defense and Magic Defense by 10% for three turns.
1000	The Chase	The Watchman designates a single target as The Suspect. For three turns, all allies gain the following bonuses against The Suspect: Exact knowledge of The Suspect's location, ignoring status effects like Vanish. (For obvious reasons, this becomes less exact the further away The Suspect is. Within the distance of a few city blocks would give The Suspect's location to within a few feet, whereas 'on the other side of the planet' would give 'Probably somewhere in Min'To') +50% damage. +25% damage resistance.

0500	Fighting Dirty	When you're fighting for your life, anything goes. A Watchman can find weapons in the oddest places- bricks, bits of wood, beer bottles, chairs- and turn them to their advantage. Watchmen can use 'improvised' weapons in place of whatever their other class requires at no penalty.

The ringing of bells fills the air, the sky goes dark with night and pouring rain, and the Watchman summons allies from beyond to help in the fight, dealing overwhelming physical damage to all enemies. If this damage would kill any enemy, they are instead pinned to the ground and arrested, bound with handcuffs with all Job abilities suppressed. If there are any others nearby with the Watchman Asterisk, they can participate, boosting the skill's power by 25%.

Personality: Bit of a conundrum, that; Vimes manages to simultaneously be a cynical bastard and a die-hard idealist, an anti-authoritarian and a firm believer in the force of law. It’s practically zen.

Sam Vimes is not a gentleman, but he is, by nature, a gentle man who despises killing. However, there are moments, when roused, that senior members of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch know to hold him back, or to get out of his way. Whether it’s a threat against his wife and child, or discovering that a wanted murderer has taken a souvenir from a child victim, or finally having a serial torturer cornered- something in him wells up. In his own head, he calls it ‘The Beast’.

Level 4 Effects: Vimes is immune to damage and status ailments for two turns. At the end of the effect, he suffers 50% of the effects he ignored.

Personality:
Vimes is, above all else, bound by a moral compass and intense sense of justice so strong that, in spite of his own opinion that he’s a bit of a bastard with far too many things about his character that ought to stay buried, by sheer weight of the unrelenting standards he enforces on himself and on others have changed the course of history. He has arrested nobility, ambassadors, foreign dignitaries, other watchmen, and even, on one occasion, Havelock Vetinari, the Patrician of Ankh-Morpork, because he believes firmly that either the law applies to everyone, or what’s the point? He ponders, often, a famous saying which goes ’Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?’, or, in Morporkian, ‘Who watches the watchman?’, to which his response is, always, ‘I do.’ And if pressed on who, then, watches Vimes, he will reply, ‘Me. I do that too. All the time.’

He is possessed, as well, of the sort of bloody-minded stubbornness that allows him to keep going when others might have long ago given in. When presented with a crime, he will always pursue, to the point that he has, on several occasions, been sent to a location where his immediate superior, Lord Vetinari, was aware there was a problem, simply because the Patrician knows Vimes almost better than he knows himself, and knows Vimes will follow the scent of injustice to the very end. He’s been not-so-charitably referred to as ‘Vetinari’s Terrier’, on account of his apparent pathological need to sink his teeth into anything that even hints at injustice and utterly refuse to let go, enduring physical beatings, extreme environments, the constant threat of death, and even being willing to give up a happy life with his wife and future child if it would mean altering history to ensure the survival of a rebellion.

In spite of being, officially, His Grace, His Excellency, The Duke of Ankh; Commander Sir Samuel Vimes of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch, Vimes is fiercely, almost ideologically, anti-authority, a state of mind which has been commented on as being ‘practically zen’. He feels like a class traitor every time he goes out officially as ‘The Duke’, and it causes him great pain that, in his home city, the ‘haves’ strut about as though they own the place, and the ‘have-nots’ pay the price. He takes great exception to the idea that a man can work his fingers to the bone and just barely scrape by, whilst others can coast through life on a bed of gold and never do a bit of work for it, and the fact that assassins and thieves can walk about in broad daylight without fear of reprisal irks him to no end. Perhaps as a direct result of that, he takes an almost indecent level of pleasure in disabusing the rich of the notion that they are above consequences, especially if he’s allowed to rough them up a bit first.

He’s a self-described ‘cynical bastard’, as well, suspecting everything and everyone in any given situation. In many cases, it works to his benefit, as Ankh-Morpork is the sort of place where a healthy paranoia can save your life. He’s gone to elaborate lengths to foil assassination attempts, which, up until a few years ago, were frequent and, obviously, unsuccessful. He’s uncovered a number of conspiracies in his time, many of which concerned efforts to depose the Patrician. This has worked against him as well, however; competent manipulators have been able to guide his actions so well that simply crafting the appearance of a conspiracy was enough to make him conclude that there was a conspiracy to make the other side of a blooming war look as though they were conspiring to accelerate said war, thus sending him traipsing across the desert after a man he only suspected of wrongdoing.

Vimes isn’t without his character flaws, unfortunately. He doesn’t like nonhumans much, though by his own words he doesn’t like humans much either, so that’s probably alright. The undead (it ought to be noted that, on the Discworld, this category includes zombies, ghouls, banshees, vampires, werewolves, and several other varieties of creature) he dislikes openly for prejudicial reasons, on account of their tendency to attempt to dominate humans. He hates nobility even more, and regards foreigners with suspicion and distrust, as much as he tries to hide it sometimes. Practically the only people he doesn’t dislike are gargoyles, who spend most of their lives not moving for long periods of time, don’t commit crimes anybody hears about, and reduce the local pigeon population. Wizards, too, are generally regarded amicably; they might occasionally threaten the fabric of the universe, but that, Vimes thinks, is not in his jurisdiction. He does, however, make exceptions for Watchmen, being of the opinion that ‘A watchman’s a watchman, no matter what shape he is.’

Vimes will, also, be the first to admit he has an anger problem. For a man whose default state is a mild irritation, the world is an infuriating place. When confronted with injustice, his instinctive response is to pull out his truncheon and start swinging, a fact which has got him into trouble on several occasions. It took a monumental effort, when presented with a firearm imbued by the Disc’s latent magical field with a corrupting, murderous influence, to not cave to the ‘Gonne’s’ whispered promises and allow it to use him to exact its own twisted sense of justice on the world. Indeed, it was this same rage that made his mind like a beacon to an ancient spirit of vengeance, which tried to use him to exact a vicious, bloody revenge against a cadre of dwarves who had murdered one of their fellows in cold blood. It was only the same sense of justice and utterly unyielding moral compass that allowed him to reign in the entity and, in that moment, break free of its control and drive it out.
