Meg & Dia Frequently Asked Questions! (Updated)

Here are some frequently asked questions from the Meg & Dia.com boards. They were mostly answered by the band members themselves.

How exactly is Meg & Dia officially spelled?
"You can spell it, write it, say it however you want.
Meg and Dia were playing as an acoustic duo, then they decided to form a "band", thats when Ryan and I joined. We changed it to the Meg & Dia band so that people would know we were a full band and not an acoustic duo anymore, after playing under this name for a while we decided to change it back to Meg & Dia because now people know that Meg & Dia is not just meg and dia, it's a full band." - Nick

Just wondering if you guys are planning any international shows, which would involve the UK?
"I would love to play in the UK!!! Unfortunately I don't see that happening anytime soon...I promise I'll try my hardest to get my band over there" - Meg

The band is currently getting ready to head overseas to the UK for the Give It A Name festival.

Do you guys ever plan on touring in Canada?
"Yeah we didn't do the Canada Warped shows because of our bus situation.
We will play in Canada soon I promise. We're working on some tours that might take us into Canada for a few shows....but nothing is for sure. I would love to tour in Canada with Bedouin Soundclash and Ill Scarlett" - Nick

"We'll get to Canada as soon as we can!" - Meg

The band played in Canada for Warped Tour recently

In the song "Monster," when you refer to "glass child;" I was wondering if that was a throwback to J.D. Salinger?
"I love Salinger and I do have a lot of references to him and yes that's were I found it but I don't mean it the same as he does. It is supposed to metaphorically mean 'fragile' " - Meg

What is the song "Monster" about exactly?
"Monster is about a book called East of Eden by John Steinbeck. Again, EVERYONE read this book! In it, he explains his own term "monster" which refers to an individual having received no love as a child which further transformed that person into a rapist or murderer or some other unexplainable phenomenon. If a child receives no love they will end up a "monster". I could go on and on but Steinbeck does a much better job of explaining his theory so go check it out." - Meg

In Monster where does the line "Hannah's Regret" come from?
"You know, it's funny because a lot of people have asked about that particular lyric. I did write the majority of this song but bridges of songs are Dia's specialty so the insertion of that lyric happens to come from her. Hanna is an actual real live person who we have known since before we created this band. So we used her name. "Hannah's regret" is her child that she brought into the world accidently and has no means to take care of or care for. (This didn't actually happen to Hannah!) Monster is what happens to people who don't have the love and attention needed to nourish a soul. Illegitimate children never receive that love. Such a pity!" - Meg

What is Nineteen Stars about?
It's about a person giving up on life and feeling like they have nothing left. I think that every person reaches this point at some time or another. I felt like this a lot when I first moved out and went to college. I kind of foreshadows some suicidal tendencies but it's not meant to be depressing. Hopefully it was meant to be uplifting. The chorus urges the individual to fight for life and anything worth living for. When I was growing up my best friend and I lived right next to each other. There was a fence that separated our back yards. Every night while we were struggling to get through the dramatics of high school we would come out to the fence at the appointed time and make a wish on our special constellation. So 19 stars is the number of stars that make up the constellation that we wished on. However there isn't any particular constellation that I'm referring to. 19 is significant however but that is one personal secret I'm not willing to tell... - Meg

What is "Cardigan Weather" about?
"The song is about a girl that catches her guy with another girl, so she poisons him and sews him into her mattress. Then she has "sexual relations" with other dudes on the mattress. Pretty morbid, but thats Dia for you. Haha, she'd do it too! " - Nick

What does "Apples parachute the boys back down." in the song Roses refer to exactly?
a reference to ganja.

I heard that there's an album called 'Our Home Is Gone' that was released before 'Something Real'. Is there a way I can get a hold of that cd?
Officially, no. The band had mentioned plans to get the album onto iTunes but has since indicated that legal complications prevent that from happening.  The band is currently selling an EP (If you're poor, find something to sue somebody for) which contains two songs from Our Home Is Gone and an un-released demo of Setting up sunday.

Is any of the band vegetarian or vegan?
"I love NY style pizza! So damn good! None of us are vegan or vegetarian. Jon Cheese and I tried going vegan on our last tour before warped....I think it lasted one day. haha" - Nick

Jon (Snyder) is vegan or vegetarian, I'm not 100% sure. I believe Carlo might be a vegetarian.

Will  Nick ever write some songs for the band?
" ... I'm slowly learning to play the guitar and I hope to write some songs eventually." - Nick

"Good one Nick. Can we be anymore general?! I'm not sure. I think it might be German/Swedish. But my dad is a white dude born and raised in Utah if that helps." - Meg

Nick and Jon are white. Carlo is Filipino.

What is your religion?
Dia is undecided. Nick and Jon are Agnostic. Meg is Atheist. Carlo is Christian.

How long has Nick been playing the drums?
"I started playing in middle school at 13 or 14, I played in a bunch of bands through middle and high school, as well as jazz band percussion ensemble and pep band, right before I met Meg & Dia I was playing for the University of Utah's Drumline. I'm thinking about doing it again next season." - Nick

Is the band broken up?
For all intents and purposes, yes. Sadly the band has broken up. They broke up in 2012.

What have they been doing since then?
Dia was able to tour quite extensively due to The Voice, mainly in East Asia. Meg, Carlo and I think, for a short while, Nick toured with her as Dia Frampton. Meg has been busy with her jewelry line (and dating Nick). Nick has been working in a coffee shop for a while, and he and Meg briefly started a project entitled The Khaki Scouts (Facebook). Jon joined a new band, American Tomahawk, and he's taken up cooking. Carlo has been playing for Dia and married his long-time girlfriend.

Dia, as most of you know, is performing still and has started a new project, entitled Archis (Instagram, twitter). She's currently on tour with Lindsey Stirling and performing songs from her new upcoming EP for this project.
