2 September, 1971-- Sirius Orion Black
2 September 1971
So... Remus Lupin, HAHA I swiped your journal thing. Wow, you write big entries, dont you? Or is this one just an exception because it's a new book and the first day at HOGWARTS!!!! AHHHHH!
Eh, not like I'm really excited or anything. I knew I was coming here since I was a baby. I'm just glad to get away from the FREAKS that are my family. Well, thank the gods- let me tell you that. I'll bet my mother is just sucking lemons right now that I'm Gryffindor. Generations of "family tradition" just went splat. Slytherins. The whole lot of them have been Slytherin for ages. It's a tradition now, and that's all mum ever talks about; tradition, and blood will out, and Sirius get off the table this instant...
But you know, whatever, right? I'm away from them now. I'm in Gryffindor, which kicks ass, by the way. I have awesome dorm mates, though, Remus, what do you need a copy of the full moon dates for the next seven years for anyway? Do you have a telescope or something, go out and look at the moon every month? Is that it, Moony? Hey, Moony may be a good little nickname for you. I do that, see. Nickname people, that is. It bugs some, but I dont really care. Did you see Evans deck me last night? I called her Red. She hates it. I don't really care though. I'm gonna keep calling her that. The look on James' face after she hit me was priceless. I think he was more jealous than anything. I mean, she actually TOUCHED me. Hehehe.
By the way, Moony, it's Sirius. S-I-R-I-U-S. Not Serious. Come on, now, dont you know anything about the Black family? Star names are also "traditional." My name is Sirius Orion Black. Yeah, yeah, yeah, notice my initials. James got a good snigger out of them, but I think S.O.B. is pretty fitting for me, both literally (my mother is a bitch, let me tell you) and figuratively, as I'm sure you'll find out.
Heh, am I annoying you yet, Moony?
Hey, that song happens to be a classic. Passed down to me by my cousin Jordan (dad's brother, Oberon, is decidedly NOT into traditionalism) Oberon (Uncle Obi) and my dad (Solarus) are twins. While my dad went and got married to some other Fourteen Family "pureblood" and lives in London, my uncle ran off to the coast and lives a happy little life with a fishing boat. It's a very committed relationship. Sometimes Aunt Millie gets jealous of Oberon's love affair with his boat. And who wouldn't, really. It's a smashing boat! I've spent a good part of my life on it; much to mum's annoyance. She hates the language and all that I've picked up from the coastal life, and says, "it's not becoming for someone of stature- Sirius are you even listening to me?!" And my brother Regulus wont even be here for another two years so until then I have no one to spy on me and report back to mum.
And Alice is a wonderful lady! She's got all the right hook-ups to get some sensational tickets! And she said she'd even show me how to get all the bloody makeup on, so I can truly freak mum out when I come home all glammed up! I can't wait. Please tell me that you've heard of Glam Rock, Moony? Does the name Jack Fairy ring a bell? Or maybe Brian Slade? He's newer to the scene, so maybe not, but gods, he's so cool! Alice said she can get us tickets over Christmas even.
I notice that you describe James' space to a T but not a word about mine? Do you not approve of the posters? A little too risqué for you, maybe? 'Course, I suppose it doest help that I'm older than you. Since you gotta be 11 before the year starts to get into that year of Hogwarts, and I was 11 half way through it. Does the fact that I'm a Saggitarus surprise you at all? No I thought not, considering you seem the bookish type, Moon charts under your bed and all.
Hey, can I maybe get you to "help" me this year at the schoolwork thing? I can make it worth your while!
Anyway, jeez, I haven't written this much for a while! Or ever, maybe. Well, if you've gotten to the end of this and not tried to kill me, you're a good man, Moony. I feel like we may yet be fast friends. James is already well on his way. And what about that Peter Pettigrew? Mousy little fellow, isn’t he? But I've never met a kid who can swipe things as easily as he can. You should see all the loot we got from out little "school exploration" last night! Hey, did you know that girls can come to our dorm, but we can’t go to theirs? The stairs turn into a slide and you can't get up it.
