1. Y'all, I swear. It's like I'm living in a sitcom sometimes. My mother tried to call and text me the day before and day of our trip to see them, but unbeknownst to her, the calls weren't going through. So she called the police in my town to do a welfare check. *headdesk* Fortunately, what happened instead is that City Hall called me and my brother called me but OMG.

2. ( cut for weight loss talk )

3. I got some wonderful birthday gifts, including a box of books from executrix and some incense and matches in a gorgeous box from sweettartheart. Josh got me an Ulta gift card so I've been upping my makeup game. I've decided my new thing is going to be lipstick. Currently, I've been rocking Lancome Trendy Mauve (a discontinued nude) with the Charlotte Tilbury lip sculpt (liner) in fair.

4. I have been watching Erin Parsons (former makeup artist) on Youtube, and her channel has inspired this renewed interest in makeup. Her videos are deeply engaging, and she does a lot of thoroughly researched dives into historical makeup topics. She's also a collector, so a lot of her videos are her showing off her collection of vintage makeup, makeup accessories and perfumes and explaining the evolution of products from then to now. Same with application techniques. I find the whole thing fascinating.

5. I'm not going to back read, so if anything happened while I was away, please let me know!

comments

3 Things

I have missed you all, so I've eased myself back into DW by starting to comment on everyone's journals again, and now I thought I'd try my hand at posting again.

1. I've been reading Hobbit fanfic ever since we watched the movies with Fi for the first time over Thanksgiving break, and I'm thoroughly enjoying myself. I can't tell what's fanon and what's canon, though (or from whence it comes if canon). Like, Thorin's sister must be named Dis because everybody calls her that, even though I don't remember that information being in The Hobbit or the trilogy. But I see a variety of names for her husband, which tells me that information isn't included anywhere. Also, there's such a broad swathe of what is probably fanon that seems to appear in every story: that the Ri brothers all have different dads, that Dori is extraordinarily fussy and into tea and etiquette, and etc. I wonder who was the originator of a lot of these ideas.

2. Have some Hobbit recs:

Mr. and Mrs. Baggins by LullabyKnell
Turns out Bilbo and Lobelia have more in common than they thought. They get married about it.

Of Risks and Rewards by Bgtea
Kili/Fili
After BOTFA, Fíli can sense the growing separation between him and Kíli, but he is at a loss as to how he could even begin to rebuild the close relationship they once had. It is just his bad luck that fate is about to throw several more wrenches into his life in the form of suitors.

A Mixture of Madness series by Salvia_G
In which sexual mores are quite different for dwarves. Here be lots of super hot dwarf sex.

3. I have pretty much quit reading Stranger Things fic, but have the last few recs I have in open tabs:

and it all comes down to you by skoosiepants
SGA/ST fusion
The one where Eddie and Steve are soulmates in space!!

A Kiss with a Fist by Sablesea
Steve/Dustin
In the immediate aftermath of the final battle.

Tempus Fugit by Fuuma
Eddie/Dustin
Post-season 4 where Eddie lives.

A Catalog of Non-Definitive Acts series by KidA_666
Steve/Jonathan
Tommy Hagan gets taken instead of Barbara.

comments

Yuletide Letter Placeholder

Dear Yuletide Author,

Thank you so much for writing for me. I am going to offer you some suggestions, but don't feel beholden to write any of them. Please write whatever you want for these fandoms, and I know I will love it.

Nothing is off limits. Feel free to include characters from the fandom not named in the tag set. I love gen, het, femslash, m/m slash and world building. Be as experimental as you like. I'm cool with crossovers/AUs/fusions and character death and omegaverse and kink and anything else you can think of. Go wild!

Keeping up Appearances

I have loved Keeping up Appearances since I was a kid and watching it on PBS on Saturday nights. I love it even more after a lifetime of watching and now that we've lost the inimitable Dame Patricia Routledge after a glorious run of 96 years.

I've always wondered what drew Richard and Hyacinth together in the first place. I have a hard time believing Hyacinth capable of hiding any facet of her personality, so I always wonder what drew Richard to the strident demeanor that has him so henpecked in the future. (All this, of course, with the deepest love for Mrs. Bucket.)

Any look at Hyacinth and Richard's relationship in early days would be cool.

We only see Sheridan and Tarquin from Richard and Hyacinth's perspective, so a look at Richard and Hyacinth from the boys' perspective could be fun.

A Christmas Carol

I have loved A Christmas Carol since I first read it in grad school. Okay, let's be real--since I first watched Mickey's Christmas Carol in the 80s.

I love the idea of some sort of post-mortem redemption for Marley. Maybe Marley gets a second chance and gets to come back. I also love the idea that he and Scrooge had a romantic relationship (or that Scrooge realizes he'd have liked to have one but now it's too late). I think a darker version of this story could be fun, too; maybe Scrooge doesn't learn his lesson.

Starter Villain

I have very much been enjoying Scalzi's recent forays into the whimsical. Life is stressful and the world is a scary place right now; yes, please, to the silly and the cats!!

I would love to learn more about Hera's mentorship of Penelope or Hera's continued correspondence with her financial advisor.

Anything about Seventy Three and the dolphins' strike efforts or just general dolphin shenanigans would be great.

I'd also love to know what the two humans in the tag set do after the events of the novel or maybe some backstory for Mathilda.

Thanks again for writing for me.

Treats are enabled on my AO3 account.

comments
