Anyone interested in hearing a Steve Biddulph talk in Ivanhoe tonight at 7.30 (Tuesday the 11th) is welcome to two free tickets. A. isn't well and I can't go (nothing particularly terrible, I just don't want to leave him at night after being in childcare all day).
Steve Biddulph wrote the classic 'Raising Boys' but this talk is based on his other bestseller 'Secrets of Happy Children'. I went to the Raising Boys night and cannot recommend Steve enough as an engaging, thought provoking, entertaining, approachable parenting guide. Tickets are electronic so comment with your email (or txt me) and I will send them to you.

So, my mother's going in for a biopsy thingy because she's had irregular pap smears for the last six months and hasn't responded to the last three months of treatment. Probable cervical cancer. Its survivable (one of the most survivable in fact) but I feel like a terrible human being and a terrible daughter for feeling tired already. Its not the physical realities of taking care of her but the emotional rollercoaster that will ensue. My mother is very skilled at not being where you expect her to be emotionally, nor even being where she tells you she will be. For example she hadn't told me what was happening for her until two days ago because 'every time I tried there was always something happening for you'. Like we're in competition for who has the most emotional shit. I am trying so hard not to take responsibility for too much, and I am truly sorry for her that she has to go through this process and want to be sympathetic, but she is not the kind of person who will make it easy or straightforward for herself or those around her. It is just so difficult (and so often difficult) to navigate the difference between what she wants, what she says and what she does.

Can't believe I'm posting again so soon, you can tell Aiden's away...its like a flood that comes after a drought! (Probably neither can you!)

I'm starting a ning.com discussion site with my Year 12 English Language students and I really really *really* need a copy of that grammar nazi avatar thingy, because I cannot think of any more appropriate icon to show these students in this context!! I just gotta show them I can has a sense of humour and a bit of net cred.

Anyway, anyone know where I can snurch/link to a copy without just 'borrowing' it?
(I have become very finicky about copyright and such lately...)

Court date set for 15th Sept (a Monday, 9.45 am!) in Melbourne. Just to be difficult I think. Custody & Property together (saves lawyers fees I hope). X is asking for full custody (but Jan suicide attempt and lack of employment will supposedly make this not happen. Oh gods, how I need that to be true.)
Phone calls and emails appreciated. Spinning my wheels a bit. Forgive me if I don't make it to Melbourne often over the next few months, money and time and 'get up and go' kind of an issue atmo. :}

Hello all! Long time, no post!
This is an opportunistic post, you may be required to do something!

I raise funds for South African women who have been infected with Aids and have no other means of support. Often they are rejected by family and friends because of the disease and struggle to feed themselves and their children (let alone buy any medicine!). To do this raising of funds I sell cute little beaded badges that they make. The cost of the badges is $4.50 and of this dollars goes straight into the women's hands.

At the moment I have recieved some really cool dragons in a range of colours (as shown in the attached pictures) and I thought some of you might like one/be a good target :)

They are very light and can easily be posted. If you would like one, or even if you'd like to take ten and sell them to your friends and workmates!, please email me at 'my real name' at ncable 'dot' net 'dot' au or comment here to arrange the transfer of hostages! PS I have non-gamer designs too - flags, footy colours (ugh!), cute animals and all sorts of things. I can even get custom made ones - minimum order of twenty though!

Having done/been/wanted to be all of these things at one stage or another I have to say I found it quite an accurate test. Interestingly enough for my present situation, my current job is only no 12 on the list, so perhaps its no wonder I'm a bit unsettled!
My favourite is no 39, and I love the fact that this quiz seem to capture my eclectic nature - how many other tests will show both Fashion Designer, Magician, Archaeologist and Gunsmith as preferred choices?

Just a quick two week update!

He's HUGE! Off the chart for height, 95% for weight. (Not surprising to me given how much he's been eating lately!). He hardly fits into any of the 000 clothes we've been given, and certainly very few of the socks! His feet are about 10cm long, he's 60cm all up! He can only wear socks for one year olds and hates gro-suits because the feet are too small.
He is already starting to develop head control and loves looking at mirrors - he loves talking to the other baby!

Anyway, its booby-time (again!), hopefully I'll get a chance to see you all in person soon!

Sorry about the confusion, but I made a mistake with the visiting hours. They are 2.30-4.30pm and 6-8pm, every day. Only immediate family are allowed in before lunch.

Kythys will likely be discharged on Sunday morning, and be home by lunch-time. If anybody would like to speak to her, you can call Ballarat Base Hospital on (03) 5320 4000 from 2.30pm-8pm and they will put you through to her room. I am sure she would love to hear from you.

Hi All

Aiden Bedwyr Jones was delivered by emergency ceaser at 6.51pm last night (3rd of July). His birth weight was 9lb 7oz., and his height was 22 inches (4.3kg, 54.5cm). Mother and baby are both doing really well, though mum is a little tired.

If you would like to visit, they are in ward 5 north at Ballarat Base, visiting hours are 10am to 1pm, then 2.30pm till 4pm.

Please pass on these details to anybody not on livejournal that you feel would be interested.

Nerd Alert....its the name of an old D&D character who seemed to capture something of the essence of me and so I kind of adopted the name for a range of purposes so as not to lose that part of myself. You can all now access my computer, if you could be bothered coming to Ballarat!

Its the finial from my wedding invitiation two years ago that was hand-painted by my mother for the occasion. You will note how it very cleverly combines fantasy creatures, the four elements and both of our real initials.....

Married. Semi-celibate due to the demands of work. Darnitall.

Physically, yep, stuck a key through a guy's face when he tried to grab my tits once (I was 16 and it was two am and I had just finished a shift at McDonalds in Clifton Hill and I was walking home past a brothel and three pubs).
Otherwise, I think I have been fighting someone or some thing all my life.....mostly my own poor intentions.

19. Have you ever sung in front of a large audience?

Does Christmas carolling count? Also lots of spoken word stuff.

20. What is the first thing you notice about the opposite sex?

Hands. How strong are they, how capable looking, what do I think they would feel like on my skin, etc etc

Nothing.

24. Has anyone ever said you looked like a celebrity?

I used to look a lot like Princess Diana when I was in mid to late high school. There are also a couple of photos of Angela Lansbury (in the Court Jester) which I once looked quite like. And a nude painting that I look exactly like...(Susannah and the Elders, but of course I cannot find the one I mean on Google...)
But my favourite (well the most flattering one) was the photo on my Learners' Permit (which they wouldn't let me keep!!) where I looked kind of like Sarah Ferguson and kind of like Gillian Anderson (back when it was cool to be either of those two ladies!!). So I guess the short answer is English and horsey. Oh god, I am going to turn into Princess Anne one of these days.....

25. Do you still watch kiddy movies or TV shows?

Absolutely! Half the time its better than grown up tv!

26. Did you have braces?

Yes. And not until I was 25 when, to add insult to injury, I had to pay for the damn things....

27. Are you comfortable with your height?

Yes.

28. What is the most romantic thing someone has ever done for you?

Someone whom I was sleeping with and who didn't want to be pinned down or admit there was more to it, buying me specific, expensive, favourite chocolate on Valentines Day because he didn't want me to feel left out and I had casually mentioned three months earlier that I had only ever received one Valentines' Day gift.

Someone else, when I had lost an expensive pen with my name engraved on it with extreme (and complicated) sentimental value, buying me pens with my name on them for my birthday.

29. Do you speak any other languages?

Not fluently. But I can spout/recognise a few phrases in French/German/Italian/Latin. And I can read/pronounce Old English, Middle English, Shakespearean English and Saxon or Norse with a dictionary.

30. Do you have a crush on someone on your livejournal?

Now? Or at some time in the past? Answer would probably have to be yes to both, but probably not the persons people would expect.....

Hello all!
I have been booted and reminded that I should post something here.
Things very frantic as I have started a new job at very posh private (sorry, independant) school where they take two litres of blood every morning and you don't clock off until after hocky practice finishes at 6, in time for you to go home and mark the scads of homework you have to give out.

I have fallen down a hole that is called teaching....
