They're screwing with my right to vote, and I'm white-hot pissed about it!
I am registered as Independent. Independent is NOT a party, people! The whole point in registering as an Independent is to be able to vote for whichever candidate I feel is best for the job, *regardless* of party affiliation. After all, isn't that what voting is supposed to be about? Picking the BEST person for the job?
The hubby and I just walked down to our local polling place to vote. Checked in, got the ballot, all was well... until I got to my voting booth and discovered I had two people on my ballot, both for small, local positions.
WTF???
So they took away my right to vote for the person I thought was best for the other races, just because I refuse to declare for Republican or Democrat? Because I don't want to play the stupid game of picking sides, because I believe that I should be able to vote for whomever I choose regardless of their chosen affiliation, my opinions somehow don't count at all? I've been told, "this is different, it's only the primaries" - like my vote doesn't matter just because it's "only primaries"? So because it's "only primaries", those who choose to pick sides get to tell me who I will get to vote for in the fall, but I don't get a say myself? The votes of those who choose to register as Independent could make a huge difference in who wins a primary if we were allowed to vote for the person we think best for a given office. Are the Republicans and Democrats so afraid of that, that they handcuff us and forbid us to vote for our chosen candidate at primaries?
So I'm guessing that those who register Republican got ballots with only Republican candidates listed, and that those registered Democrat got ballots with only Democratic candidates listed. So what if you're registered Republican, but you feel that someone who is running as a Democrat might be better for a given office? What then? You have no right to say vote for that person instead of someone who is running under the party they force you to pick when you register to vote? IMHO, parties need to be done away with. There should be NO parties. Parties do little more than stir up divisiveness among people. Everyone should be able to vote for the person they feel is best for the job, period.
