Neoaves (Sibley et al., 1988)[1][2][3] è un clade che comprende tutti gli uccelli moderni (Neornithes o Aves) ad eccezione dei Paleognathae (ratiti e affini) e dei Galloanserae (anatre, polli e affini). Quasi il 95% delle circa 10 000 specie conosciute di uccelli moderni appartiene ai Neoaves.[4]
La rapida diversificazione dei vari gruppi di neoavi si è verificata molto rapidamente attorno all'evento di estinzione di massa del Cretaceo-Paleogene,[5] e i tentativi di risolvere i loro rapporti con l'uno con altro hanno portato inizialmente a molte polemiche tra gli esperti.[6][7]
Filogenesi
