A/N: This all came about from a drabble I wrote for
tw100 and it grew from there.
The darkness is overwhelming when you're alone. Suzie knows that too well.
She can't imagine what it's like to be here alone, unable to move, unable to really live.
Lisa spends most of the time sleeping, drugged up with painkillers and hooked up to machines. It's no way to live, and it breaks Suzie's heart.
There are days when she contemplates switching off the life support, letting Lisa have peace at last. But she can't bring herself to do it. Lisa has something to live for, and one day she hopes Lisa will find her way out of the dark.
There's not much that goes on at Torchwood three that Suzie doesn't know about, she's Jacks second in command and she makes it her business to keep an eye on things.
She knows that Tosh is in love with Owen, she knew it before Tosh did. The longing looks, the months old birthday card still sat on her bedside table. Owen has never given Tosh a second glance though. He makes a habit out of being an obnoxious git, and from the outside you'd find it difficult to believe that Owen could have someone so deeply under his spell, but Suzie knows all to well how easy it is, after all, it hadn't been that long ago that she was waking up in his bed, exhausted from a hard days work and a night full of lovemaking, no, lovemaking and Owen don't sit well together, fucking would be a more appropriate word.
She's not the only one of the team who's shared a bed with Owen though. Not that Owen would ever admit to it, but he and Jack had a fumble not long after Owen joined. She hadn't needed to work that one out though, Jack had admitted to it one night as they lay in bed together.
Owen had been a one off, a drunken fumble after a hectic day, and she and Jack only happened when the darkness threatened to overwhelm them, when the loneliness got to much.
She watched Ianto closely when he first arrived, They all knew what happened at Canary Wharf, and it didn't take a genius to work out that he'd need time to get over it. He carried himself well, assured and ready to serve, but underneath his professional exterior she could tell that he was carrying a huge weight, understandable really. When she found Lisa she wasn't shocked, and she wasn't angry. Suzie sat by her side and cried, cried for Ianto, for Lisa, and for all of them.
She visits Lisa everyday, making sure that she's not seen. She doesn't want the others to find out, she knows what they'd do to her, and she doesn't want Ianto to know. As much as Suzie knows Ianto could do with someone to share his burden with, she also knows that Ianto doesn't need the added concern. Besides, he's found a way of dealing with the burden.
When she sees Jack flirting with Ianto, and their stolen moments away from the rest. She can't help but think of Lisa.
Ianto has a burden to bare greater than the rest of them though, and if he's finding an escape and release with Jack, she won't judge him for it. It's not her place to do so. They all need a way to keep the darkness at bay.
It's the darkness that drives them, keeps them living, let it consume you and you can lose your way.
Suzie knows a lot, she's just happy that no-one knows her.
