Torchwood relationship observations and discussion the future of Torchwood.
I know I promised a Utopia review, but I havn't got round to watching it again yet, sorry. Not that anyone was really waiting for it anyway.
In light of recent spoilers/specualtion some of the Ianto/Jack fangirls have gone crazy, yes I am a fangirl, and I squee at high pitches with the rest of them, but can we just step back a littleand not look batshit crazy for a second.
Anyway....
I love Jack/Ianto, I really really do, and the idea of Jack/Gwen really doesn't sit well with me, but that has nothing to do with my love for Jack/Ianto, no really!
I like Gwen, initially she annoyed me a bit, but on repeat viewings she's grown on me. Yes she cheated on the lovely Rhys, but that's highly understandable when you look at the situation she's in. She's working for an alien hunting agency, top secret etc. She couldn't tell Rhys anything about her job, and the things that see saw/experienced would have seriously affect you. Turning to Owen after the incident was her way of dealing with it. He could understand, he'd been through it, he works for Torchwood, he knows all that stuff. Ryhs could never understand it.well unless he joins Torchwood, but I don't see that happening anyway we know all this, I want to talk about Jack/Gwen.
With Jacks whole attitude towards Gwen staying grounded and not letting her life outside of Torchwood slip, I can't see him getting involved with Gwen. There's definately something between them, and I'm torn between thinking that Jack's disgust with Gwen over her affair with Owen, was just because she had dissapointed him, or because along with the dissapointment that she'd let her life outside of Torchwood slip, he was annoyed that she hadn't come to him.
If Jack gets involved with Gwen, after all that he's said to her during series one, Jack will seriously go down in my estimation. I know Jack is the omnisexual intergalactic playboy, but I'm pretty sure he has ethics, and getting involved with Gwen whilst she's still with Rhys would be a huge, hell no, what are you doing! This is based on the assumption that Gwen will stay with Rhys. Which if she doesn't aww poor Rhys/or lucky break, depending on what way you look at it, and also that would just completly throw off everything that happened with Gwen and Rhys in the series finale. Hello she opened the rift to save the guy, if she just dumps him after all that then *shakes head*
Jack; I can't see settling down with anyone anyway. The major fact being hello immortal. Sure he can have sustained meaningful relationships, Estelle certainly was meaningful. But we've seen the heartbreak that comes with loving someone who's going to grow old and die when you're not. Gwen and Jack roll in the hay, heated affair? wouldn't like to see it for reasons I've already stated, but it would work a lot better than, meant to be, true love. and if they make Gwen immortal, I may just scream.
Jack/Ianto, so we've covered how much of a fangirl I am, lets explore the possibilities for them. I would like to see more of them in series two. I really would. But and I know this is practicaly sacrilage for a Jack/Ianto fangirl to say, but I really wouldn't be that upset if there wasn't, I'd be upset, but it wouldn't be the end of the world.
Jack's coming back a much happier bunny, so we'll have the flirty, can't even say hello without flirting Jack back, as opposed to the brooding, waiting for the Doctor Jack, and with that I'd like to see Jack having lots of fun, whether that be with Ianto, the Alien of the week, or even Owen. Jack really needs to have some fun, and hopefully he'll have lots of it.
Ianto, now the guy really needs a break. If him and Jack aren't getting hot and sweaty together then I think it would be great to see him with another love interest, an outside Torchwood love interest would be really interesting, and come on Ianto deserves some happiness.
I'm not sure if I've actually made any sense here, I've probably just wittered on without much point. But I suppose in conclusion for the future of Torchwood, Jack/Ianto; yes please, but I won't be too heartbroken if there isn't. Jack/Gwen; depends on how they handle it, but not really up for it. Jack and Ianto with completly new characters, hell yeah give it a try (James Marsters please!!).
