At least I can still put the w(h)ine in the freezer
It's exactly nine months since I started working at Parliament, and while it's basically the best thing that's ever happened to me, I have to admit that it's significantly detracted from my ability to write LJ posts. There are heaps of things I want to post about (the true love of Ray Toro and James Dewees, for example, or the fact that I went to the last Spicks & Specks show ever and that is unbelievably sad and also Adam Hills dressed as Beyonce unf) but I haven't really been making the time to sit down and write a good post. All my 'sit down and write' time ends up being spent on fiction. So I only end up writing actual posts when I'm grumpy enough about something to rant.
So, we all have dumb, irrelevant things that put us off, right? That just bother you for the rest of the day? Mine is having to throw out food. I guess it's probably a result of growing up seeing ads for World Vision or something. But the thing is, having to throw food away makes me irrationally upset. I have a genuine terror of mould on my food.
So I got home from work thsi afternoon after what turned out to be a kind of stressful day of work to find I'd left my fridge door ajar all day. I just slammed it shut straight away and haven't opened it since, but the thermometer read 22 degrees and I think I'll probably have to throw out at least half the food in there, and that is going to be really miserable. :(
Fortunately I had the eerie foresight to buy a six-pack of UHT milk on the way home so I can still have milk in my tea in the morning, and I didn't have any meat in there. But maaaan, that is just not what I needed.
Oh well, I have wine and chips and M*A*S*H on TV, so this evening is not all bad. But that part still sucked.
In other news, I wrote a fic for the Canadian Shack challenge and to my utter amazement, some people have actually read it! A Typical Holiday, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Haruhi and Kyon go on a holiday to Canada and have to hide in a cabin during a blizzard, which Kyon things is the worst holiday ever and Haruhi thinks is awesome. For once I wish I could reply to kudos to thank people for reading anything in my tiny anime fandom.
At some point I need to get myself set up on Dreamwidth again but I am too lazy and worried about my fridge. :(
