From Leaky:

JKRowling.com's news section has been updated with her plans for the July 16th weekend: Friday night she will be reading from the book at the stroke of midnight at Edinburgh Castle, for 70 cub reporters, each of whom will get a signed copy of the book. The reporters, chosen from newspaper competitions in Britain, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Canda, will read the book in a reading room at Edinburgh Castle, and then attend a press conference on Sunday to interview Jo Rowling about it.

CANADA?! But not America. Thanks for nuthin. I interpret that as a cold shoulder. Artic shoulder would be more accurate.

Would anyone be interested in building Wizarding America? I guess we could start on a journal, but I'd love to have a website detailing Wizarding America. I mean hey, JK isn't gonna do it.

New pet theory

Now that JKR has debunked Knight2King (aka Ron is Dumbledore), it's time for a new pet theory in the HP fandom. Here's my suggestion:

There's a lil bit of Voldie inside Harry's head

I didn't come up with this, but it makes sense to me.

Flitwick: Now it can be told!

From JKR's site:

Just like Dean Thomas (see ‘Extras’), Flitwick has a background that I now realise will never see its way into the books because it is not relevant to the plot. He is human but with a dash of goblin ancestry – something like a great, great, great grandfather. This is only interesting in as much as it gives him a perhaps unexpected empathy for people like Hagrid who are, in Death Eater parlance, half-breeds. However, Flitwick and Hagrid have never had a scene together, so Flitwick’s genetic composition has been relegated to the very back of my mind over the six novels in which he features, although I think it has informed his character. Slightly dotty though he may be, he is welcoming of all students, whatever their background (he did say in ‘Philosopher’s Stone’ that he was very fond of Lily, thus establishing that he was not prejudiced against Muggle-borns).

I must admit, I was taken aback when I saw the film Flitwick, who looks very much like a goblin/elf (I’ve never actually asked the filmmakers precisely what he is), because the Flitwick in my imagination simply looks like a very small old man.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, that partly explains the "makeover" movie!Flitwick got. But he's still taken a bath in the fountain of youth or something.
Goblin genes must be very dominant if even one distant relative can influence height that much. Of course, if all or most of the other ancestors were simply short humans, it might be a case of reinforcement.

Pro-Kloves article surfaces, fandom goes ballistic

Hello. I really love the idea of this journal. I'm withdrawing from the HP fandom because it's getting too big and too self-important.

So...I think I'll toss out a tired old question and see if anyone bites. Who's your favorite character(s)? Mine are Snape and Lupin.
