If you have XM radio, DirectTV satellite radio, or anything similar, check out the indie rock stations. DirectTV gets their satellite radio from XM and I found the best indie rock station, XMU. If you have either, check it out. It rules omfg.

Indie electrorock. A light and lively song with synthetic beats and beautiful vocals. Upbeat, catchy, and exceptionally cool. Awesome song.

Annie - Always Too Late
Indie electropop. Kind of low-key and sultry, the song just pulsates through heavy beats and light ambient sounds. Incredibly fun song.

Q And Not You - Wet Work
Lo-fi indie rock. Energetic and slightly on the edge, with acerbic and crisp vocals that just grate. The song has a fantastic chorus, extremely catchy with a great beat. I loff this song.

Alice In Videoland - Emily
Electropop. I'm on an electronic kick right now *g* Kind of sexy and quirky, fast-tempo meets a languidity, bobbing head and dance around and sing aloud goodness.

London Suede - Starcrazy
I didn't realize this was the same band as Suede, but it appears so. Glam-rock, with a flashy rock sound and a perfect perfect chorus. I've been so obsessed with this song as of late. It's super fabulous.

My server is a lovely lovely server and upped everyone's bandwidth like a gajillion times. So, I have bandwidth again :D And should never run out again, which bodes well for all of us. With the increase of people who've joined the comm and been downloading, y'all have been using quite a bit more bandwidth than when I started *g* But now, no more yucky yousendit. Idlewild - Love Steals Us From Loneliness
This is my new obsession. I am completely addicted to this song. First off, I adore Idlewild. The lead singer has the most distinctive, intriguing voice ever. It's a slower, low-key rock song. The part that kills me is, you said something stupid like love steals us from loneliness...happy birthday...are you lonely yet? Just...guh. Lovelovelove.

Wolf Parade - Disco Sheets
This is my favoritest Wolf Parade song. I LOVE EET. I have grown quite fond of this band. The lead singer sounds like Modest Mouse and Death Cab's love child. This song is upbeat and rocked out and fun and omg everyone download it. *lovelove*

Glue - Early Morning Silence
I don't really do hip-hop; it's just not my thing. But this is an underground indie hip-hop song, and it's so freaking awesome. I mean, for me to be reccing hiphop? It's got to be good. The reason I like it is that it sounds so unique, like nothing I've ever heard. It starts out with a haunting woman's voice, then slips into this cool quazi rap/hip-hop verse, then goes into a flowing, hollow chorus that sounds vaguely like Malcolm McLaren's cover of She's Not There (From Kill Bill Vol. 2). It's just such a unique, intriguing, kick-ass song. I highly recommend it, even if you don't like hiphop.

Sigur Rós - Gong
I don't ever rec Sigur Ros, and I don't know why. They are one of my favorite bands. For those who don't know, they're like an experimental rock band from Iceland who make incredible and ethereal music. This song is from their new CD Takk and is quite a bit rockier than I'm used to from them. But it works. It has a soothing rock vibe with the lead singers incredible and distinctive voice over it. Fab fab song.

CocoRosie - Beautiful Boyz
II am so into CocoRosie these days. Minimalist approach in musical stylings, just a simple piano and mild percussion beat with the wailing, nasal, child-like vocals of the lead singer. This song is so great, seriously. Download it! CocoRosie is love.

Diffuser - Why
Gah, I love Diffuser. A good, solid, slower rock song. Starts off slow with just lyrics and guitar chords, but then adds a few more lines of melody with fantastic lyrics (break down your bulletproof lonely stare...) until the chorus just explodes with intense, passionate vocals and a swell in music. Seriously - this song is so great. Fantastic lyrics, great music. Just...lovelovelove.

PANIC! At The Disco - Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off
I lovelovelove this song. It's kind of emo-soft-punk-dark-glam-rock. I can't get a good handle on what I think it sounds like. It starts out kind of dark, gritty, and sexy, and reminds me of some of the dark glam-rock, but by the chorus it breaks into a louder, screamy rock song. Regardless, BEST SONG EVAH. Has a fantastic title, and this unbeatable hook in the chorus. Just addicting. Download it. You won't regret it.

Way Out West- Don't Forget Me
A British Electronica/Club-house band. However, this song doesn't really sound like that. This song (which was featured on one of my favoritest shows, Grey's Anatomy) sounds like something that Frou Frou/Imogen Heap, Conjure One, or similar artists would have put out. It's a slow synth-electro-rock song with these gorgeous Imogen Heap-esque haunting vocals that just cloud the song. This song is fantastic. Highly recommended!

Marvelous 3 - Beautiful
Marvelous 3 is one of my all-time favorite bands. It's Butch Walker's old band, back before he went solo. This song is a good alt-rock song. It is also one of the sweetest, most-heartbreaking songs ever. Any song that contains the lyrics: i just wouldn't change a thing about you, cause you look like you, and that's just beautiful...you smell like you and that's just beautiful...you feel like you and that's just beautiful, that's beautiful get an A+ in my book. Seriously, I lovelovelovelove this song.

31 Knots - Hearsay
I've seen this band categorized as "math rock", which I had never heard of until today. Something about calculated rhythms and what not. Indie rock that has a unique approach. It's got a hard edge, acerbic almost, with some interesting changes in the music and some great vocals. They're kind of like good Modest Mouse meets Wolf Parade. I'm quickly falling in love with this song. loff!

Death From Above 1979 - Little Girl
This song is so bad-ass. It's cutting and sexy, fast and erratic like a flashing strobe light. The lead singer's voice is strained and gritty, like he's screaming into a sweaty dance crowd. A good-time, going out, sexy song.

Emiliana Torrini - Serenade
From her new CD, a beautiful ballad with an acoustic background and airy, dreamy vocals. Stunning song, exactly the kind of perfection you'd expect from Emiliana.

VCR - Bratcore
This song has a v. erratic and noisy sound. It starts with an interesting beep that sounds like an old school video games, and carries that in the background throughout. But the song is so addicting and upbeat. Just makes you want to move around crazily while rocking out. Fun, unique, fantastic song.

VHS or Beta - Forever
Loff this song. It's instrumental, with a v. Daft Punk vibe. Electronic-rock with a great beat perfect for dancing around, driving, or hanging out. Great great song.

Daft Punk - Aerodynamic
I've been pretty much obsessed with this song recently. I cannot stop listening. I listen to it every morning when I leave the house (at the crack of dawn x_x) and it gets me going. The music is so freaking perfect and just pulls me in. It starts out with an light electronic sound with v. repetitive beats, then goes into something a little rockier/funkier with stronger, more defined beats, then it sounds like an electric guitar-type instrument/synth that just takes over. I just lovelovelovelove this song. It's so fun and kick-ass and infectious and yes.

Tori Amos - Etienne
One of my favorite Tori songs. It's heavily influenced by Scottish tradition, with bagpipes and a Scottish setting. Wistful, longing with the typical genius that is Tori. One of my all time favorite songs.

Junior Senior - Move Your Feet
mood: extremely happy/giddy/fun. Rock meets dance meets fun. One of the best songs ever, seriously makes you want to get up and move your feet. It's infectious, repetitive, great to sing to, overall feel-good time.

Gang Of Four - Damaged Goods
When I have to get up early and make my long-ass commute, I listen to this song on repeat. It's lo-fi punk with an underhanded, erratic beat that just gets under your skin and in your blood and gets you going. Plus, I love the line, I'm thinking that I love you, but I know it's only lust...your kiss so sweet, your sweat so sour...

Peachcake - Are We Accidentally At A Party
According to purevolume.com, they are "electronic, powerpop, and indie". This song is more on the electronic side. A really fun, addicting song that reminds me a lot of, say, Postal Service from the 80s. I'm really digging them and totally digging this song. Y'all should give it a try.

Kathy Mattea - Eighteen Wheels And A Dozen Roses
One of my favorite country songs. There is just something pure about 80's country music. Loff! I've always loved this song. I like songs about lovers being apart and being on the road. Songs about a truck driver, in case you couldn't figure it out by the title ;)

Spoon - I Turn My Camera On
A low-key indie rock song with a strong and unique beat. I really like this one.

Adam Richman - Mary-Anne
I loff this song. It's kind of that pop-punk-rock. A pretty uninvolved verse with a v. energetic and hyped up chorus. It cracks me up, because the chorus contain the line, "Mary-Anne, you're such a whore..." :D Just a fun fun song.

My Ruin - Close Your Eyes
Dark gothy female rock. My Ruin are an acquired taste and not for everyone, but if you like them, guh, they're fabulous. They have the BEST lyrics. This song is slow and pulsates as it goes along a dark tunnel led by the lead singers haunting vocals. Plus, this song has one of my favorites lines ever: There may be a storm in London tonight because it's cold and raining hard, my body aches, my lover waits, I pick the scabs from my arms there must be a storm in LA tonight, because it's cold and raining hard I miss your kiss. I miss your face, I miss the stars of your arms... That's just beautiful to me for some reason.

Jack's Mannequin - The Mixed Tape
I was listening to this song saying, "Wow, that guy sounds like the lead singer of Something Corporate." Low and behold, it was. This is his side-project. Sounds a lot like Something Corporate; heavy pianos, full music, emo vocals and lyrics. *loves* I think I'm liking this better than a lot of the SoCo stuff.

Tori Amos - Playboy Mommy
Tori! 'Nuff said.

Magnetic Fields - All My Little Words
Ecletic indie rock at it's finest.

Sons And Daughters - Medicine
I love this song. They're kind of lo-fi harder indie rock, with a female and male singer. This song has a lot of staccato beats and fast riffs. Kinda frantic, but nice.

Langhorne Slim - She Don't Want
Amazing folk rock. This song is just so freaking perfect. It's folky, yet with a sharp edge that just cuts into you. It's rough and coarse and his voice just pushes buttons. Download this song. It's damn near perfect. &hearts!!!!

Solex - Not A Hoot!
Quirky, indie pop-electronica. I'm not even sure how to explain this song. It starts with percussion, then slips into something that sounds out of sixty years ago from a far-off place. It's so unique and intriguing. I was v. v. disappointed after falling completely IN LOVE with this song to download the rest of their stuff and realize it's not nearly as cool. But this song is SO SUPER AWESOME OMFG.

Lovers - Winter Takes A Lover
DOWNLOAD THIS SONG. EVERYONE. Another artist I've been looking for since I heard her on the radio. This song is perfect, breathtakingly gorgeous. It's acoustic, lush indie dream pop-rock. She has these amazing vocals, powerful melodies, and just heart-wrenching words. I can't even describe how much I'm in love with this song. She's a Georgia native who now lives in Massachussettes. One of my favorite things in lyrics is mentioning of places, and this song features the line, I'm wasting away in Georgia, but thank god New England's far away... Just...do yourself a favor and check her out. Fabulous.

Tilly And The Wall - You and I Misbehaving
This song is such perfection. A great blend of piano, interesting brass and percussion, and haunting, amazing vocals. This is in the same vein of a lot of the male/female indie pop bands (ala Mates of State), and that whole movement is love. This band is from Omaha, NE, and a few of the members worked with Bright Eyes in his pre-BE’s days, then formed this band. They recorded their demo in his basement, and the keyboardist, Nick White, still works closely with Bright Eyes (did some work on his Digital Ash cd). Band is great, and this song is one of my new favorites.

Shortwave Set - Is It Any Wonder
I uploaded this days ago and forgot about it. I swear, I forget about songs I upload all the time. There are probably at least 5 or 6 songs on my server I haven’t posted x_x (at least, i don’t think i’ve posted this yet) Anyway. It seems that girl and guy joint indie pop-rock bands are v. popular right now. And I’m definitely okay with that. This is one of those, both male and female singers, indie-pop-rock with a kind of dream-like quality to it, plus some great piano. This song is really quite fab. I’m sad I’d forgotten about it.

Devotchka - How It Ends
Simply an amazing song. I can't describe how moving it is. The band is gypsy-rock, though this song isn't so much. It's like soft indie-rock. It defies explanation, which means all of you should download it right this second.

Everything Is Illuminated - Little Jonathan/The Wall
An instrumental piece from the film. This song is extremely poignant to me, melancholy, yet kind of picks up before slowing down again. Another beautiful, traditional piece that is a must have.

After Forever - Imperfect Tenses
This is one of those goth rock opera songs. Slow, heavy rock music with breath-taking soprano vocals, then an interesting male singer, then nice harmony. Even if you’re wary about this song or type of music, give it a try. The rock is soft and melodic enough not to be intrusive, and the song is simply amazing. I was left speechless first time I heard it.

Acid House Kings - Tonight Is Forever
I loff this song. Swedish indie pop. This song feels kinda 70's-esque. V. bouncy and upbeat, with a male/female voice combo. Download this song! It is love! ♥!!!

The Ark - Hey Modern Days
Some v. v. fun indie rock. The chorus is the BEST PART of this song. It’s so addictive, so much fun to sing. Upbeat and head bob-worthy. IT IS LOVE OMFG. This is my new favorite song.

I actually heard this on my TV satellite "Soundscapes" channel (shut up - we're a weird family o.O) Kitaro is a Japanese composer who has been putting out music for years (like since the 70s). This song is appropriately named, because the music is so secondary to the mood. Beautiful pianos, ethereal sounds in the background, and other vague synthesized instruments. Chillingly beautiful. Just...wow. You should all download this.

The Mountain Goats - Dilaudid | link two
I lovelove this song, from the opening, intense cellos to the desperate, incongruous vocals. Some of the lyrics are so awesome. so kiss me with your mouth open... hike up your fishnets...if we live to the other side of this, i will remember your kiss. I don't like the Mountain Goats, but I lovelove this song. A must-have.

Regina Spektor - Somedays | link 2
I adore Regina Spektor. And this is just another phenomenal song. Beautiful piano, stunning vocals. Slower, more involved and ballad-like. She really does blow me away. You should all try her out.

Maximo Park - All Over The Shop | link 2
This song is schizophrenic. It's like, the best song evah. It has like 3 or 4 different melody movements. You really have to keep up with the music. The chorus is so much fun - hell, the whole song is fun. Lovelovelove.

Architecture In Helsinki - Do The Whirlwind | link 2
Indie electronica that is super fun. I adore this song. It's fun, light, clear, with that extra amount of indie electronica that is reminiscent of Postal Service, Broken Social Scene, and bands in that vein. It's definitely a staple fave.

My Ruin and Jack Off Jill - Miss Ann Thrope | link 2
The all-time best pissed off song. I listen to this song every time I'm really angry. I also listen to it a lot when I'm not, because it's got a freaking perfect beat. It's both My Ruin and Jack Off Jill, and only one of the most kick-ass songs ever. Guh. And the title? Super clevah.

Queens Of The Stone Age - Go With the Flow | link 2
There are some bands I never rec, like QOTSA, because I figure most people know them. But I had to rec this song. Before I listened to indie rock (or whiny boys with guitars as my sister puts it), I used to listen to a lot of hard rock - Smashing Pumpkins, Korn, System of a Down, ect. And sometimes, I just need a dose of testosterone - even if I am female. This song satiates that for me. You can't listen to this song without playing it at top volume and just feeling the energy and just rock to your bones. This is a perfect good ol' rock song. Guh, *hearts*

Radiohead - Idioteque | link 2
I've never been a big Radiohead person (though that's slowly changing with the help of a friend). But there are 5 Radiohead songs I could not live without, and this is one of them. This song sounds more like a dance song than many of Radiohead's songs, and it's got one of the best percussion and electronic beats of any song I've ever heard. And Thom Yorke's vocals take you through this song like you're in some weird dream. It feels like going into a haze and being immersed before coming out the other side. You have to have this song.

Air - Highschool Lover | link 2
I've just gotten into Air and I've loved what I've heard so far. I'm particularly partial to their instrumental stuff. This song has a beautiful piano in it, one that sounds old and almost out of tune (which is one of my favorite piano sounds). It's got a mellow, low-key backbeat, and is just a nice little song that breathes along as it goes. Love.

Charlie Sneller - Raindrops | link 2
This song is absolutely amazing. Piano, extremely melancholy and beautiful. It reminds me of being in England, because I listened to this song constantly on the plane and trains I took to get to Leeds. It really is perfectly named; reminds me so much of rainy days and sadness. Just...stunning.

Einaudi - The Days | link 2
One night, I listened to this song on repeat and just cried. It is that beautiful. Good for those days where nothing seems right and your head is too full; also good for those days when things are perfect and you're happy and you want something beautiful and pure to listen to. It's just piano, soft and alluring and absolutely stunning.

Flogging Molly - The Kilburn High Road | link 2
My sister is going to Ireland in a few days, and she came to me and asked me to make her a CD of Irish/celtic music since I have an unfathomable love for celtic music. First thing I did was look through my Flogging Molly songs. I chose this one for her cd (and for this post) because it feels much more Irish to me than a lot of their songs. Maybe it's the title or the music or it all, but it just is Ireland to me. Plus, the chorus is so fun, so full of memory and happiness and fun. Okay, sure, they're LA-based and pretty much based in the states, but their music is so Irish folk that it's not even funny.

Requiem For A Dream - Lux Aeterna
From the Requiem For A Dream OST; however, I associate this more with LOTR because they used it in one of the TTT trailers. This is probably my favorite piece of instrumental music ever. This song is so full of passion and feeling and emotion that I can't listen to it without getting truly invested in it. It starts off more calm and beautiful, but builds into this amazingly intense serenade that grips down to the core. By the time the 6 and a half minute song is over, I'm breathless and feel like I've been taken through the wringer and left with only my racing pulse and tears. Seriously, I can't describe how amazing this song is. If you don't know this song, you are truly missing out. It's is phenomenal and defies all words. Download it, you won't regret it.

Pink Martini is a band that likes to dabble in all different musical influences. This song is like salsa/cuban jazz. And, see, I love salsa music. But I can't find any. Anyway. This song rules. A lot.

Placebo - Sleeping With Ghosts | link 2
First off, Placebo is a must band. They are fabulous and staples of rock, esp. glam rock. This song is utterly fabulous. It's one of my favorite Placebo songs, and one of my favorite songs in general. The chorus is so powerful, dry your eyes...soul mates never die...soul mate dry your eyes... It's slower and more emotional than a lot of Placebo's songs. Just...guh. This song never fails to give me goosebumps.

Runrig - An Sabhal Aig Neill | link 2
Scottish celtic rock. This song is sung in Gaelic, and it's absolutely amazing. I'm not a huge Runrig fan overall, but I love.this.song.so.much. The verses are so freaking cool, and the strong percussion beats in the background carry the song. I can't help but dance around my house or drive in my car screaming the words (that i make up, cause i, um, don't know gaelic) at the top of my lungs. Freaking awesome. ♥ A must-have.

Tom McRae - You Only Disappear | link 2
Tom McRae is another must-hear for anyone who likes indie rock. He's a fabulous singer/songwriter, v. acoustic. He's got a sad, wailsong of a voice. This song is slow and static, v. melancholy and builds towards the end. I've said it before - Tom McRae is gold.

Doves - Here It Comes | link 2
I'm not a huge Doves fan, but this is one of my favorite songs. I love the minor-key rock sound laced with heavy pianos. And the belting of the chorus of Here it comes... This song is v. different, but it's wonderful.

Ani DiFranco - Deep Dish
Something a little different than Ani's usual stuff. Quite jazzy with some strong horns and a little sway to it. A fun, funky song. Much love.

Comas - The Science Of Your Mind
I adore this song. The lead singer of this band wrote most of the songs from this CD about his breakup with Michelle Williams (who's now Heath Ledger's baby mama). V. melodic and flowing. Seriously, this song kicks a lot of ass. Download it.

Lamb - Gorecki
This song is better known for it's sampling in Moulin Rouge during one of Satine's interludes that didn't make the soundtrack. It's an amazingly beautiful song. Starts off with meek, melancholy vocals, builds as the music intensifies, then finally explodes as the music comes into its own and her vocals become stronger and more driven. Just...if you only download one song, download this one.

Esthero - Heaven Sent
I always think of this band with Lamb, because I found them on the same website at the same time. A v. similar sound, rock laced with trip-hop undertones. A v. low-key, biting verse that goes into a powerful, open chorus. Great song.

Goldfrapp - Train
Dark trip-hop/electronica. Extremely erotic, extremely sexy. Goldfrapp is awesome.

Sneaker Pimps - Spin Spin Sugar
A dark, pulsating trip-hop/electronica song with a strong backbeat.

Mazzy Star - Into Dust
This song is hollow and echoes sadness. I'm not a huge Mazzy Star fan, but this song is so hauntingly beautiful. It's also been used in quite a few TV shows. A song that strings you along in a haze of bittersweet vocals.

Mirah - Cold Cold Water
I love this song. It see-saws back and forth between lo-fi and intense drums and violins. Such an interesting little indie rock song. Just...awesome.

Poe - Haunted
Poe is one of my favorite artists. Her Hello CD is one of the best cds I've ever heard. This is from Haunted, her second CD, which is also fabulous. I have a special place in my heart for this song. I used to listen to it on repeat. It's rock, but with an ethereal edge. This song starts off with a strong verse dominated by her vocals and a backbeat, but then the music swells as she launches into an unstoppable chorus. The lyrics are so powerful, and by the time she gets to the bridge, she has you by the heart with her i'll always want you...i'll always need you...i'll always love you...and i will always miss you... and then just lets go into one final angry verse. This song...just...Poe is absolutely amazing.

Sarah McLachlan - Mary
Sarah McLachlan before Sarah McLachlan started to suck. Remember when she was cool, edgy, hip? Yeah, that was like 10 yrs ago, but dude. Fumbling Towards Ecstasy is one of the most amazing albums that has ever been recorded. If you don't own it or haven't heard it, go out right now and get it. Perfection.

The Waifs - London Still
The most addicting song ever. I have this thing for songs talking about places, talking about being in the places and feeling out of sorts and trying to find your grip on life/love in this place. This song reminds me of a letter to an ex-lover you've ran away from, but you can't get far enough away to forget them, so you write them to let them know in the same breath that you're on your own and doing fine, yet you're completely lost, miserable, and still want them. One of the best songs I've ever heard.

Tom McRae - End of the World News (Dose Me Up)
Tom McRae is like, the best artist ever. No lie. If you don't know him, you have to download this. This song is a little rockier and more up-tempo than his usual stuff, but this song is bad-ass. Tom McRae is gold.

Tori Amos - Blood Roses
Any excuse for me to rec Tori is a good one. Only quite possibly one of the best Tori songs evah. When I first bought Boys For Pele, I only liked this song from it. It's so different. It's not every day you hear a harpsichord in a song. And just the words! The implications of and i shaved every place that you've been boy... Now that's someone who's been hurt and can't deal. *love*

Beautiful song by my favoritest artist. Heavy on the piano, true and honest lyrics, a perfectly somber love song. ♥!!!

Damien Rice - Delicate
Damien Rice is amazing. This song is soft and lovely, acoustic with perfect lyrics. Was also featured on an episode of LOST and House.

Dandy Warhols - Sleep
I'm not a huge Dandy Warhols' fan, but I adore this song. It's got such a dreamlike quality to it, v. low-key indie rock.

Dirty Vegas - Simple Things Part 2
This is like rock meets dance music. Cause it's not exactly dance music, but not rock. The v. end has a version of Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall that is freaking awesome. Fabulous, fabulous song.

Eels - P.S. You Rock My World
Kind of lazy low-key indie rock. The reason I love this song is the lyrics to the first verse...i was at a funeral the day i realized i wanted to spend my life with you...i was thinking about how everyone was dying and maybe it was time to live... OH MY HEART.

Gioia Bruno - From The Inside (Junior Vasquez Radio Edit)
Only one of the best techno/dance songs evah. I love techno songs with words and that have more than a strong bass line, and this one is perfect. So sexy.

Portishead - All Mine
Anything by Portishead is awesome, but this is one of my favorites. I love the beginning, the dramatic drop into music...then when she starts screaming "Oh-oh" near the chorus - let's just say my family hates it when I sing this song *g* Freaking brilliant.

Garbage - Hammering In My Head
In case you haven't noticed, I love Garbage. This is from version 2.0, which is their best cd imo - not a bad song on it. This was one of my first favorite songs from the cd. It's so rocking, yet with that electronica undertone that entire cd has. Just a freaking amazing song.

Geri Halliwell - Desire
Ah, the former Spice Girl and UN ambassador goes at it again, with addictive hooks and a tempo that gets my hips swaying. I have a soft spot for Geri Halliwell's solo stuff, I even own Schizophonic (okay, i bought it used for $3.50, but still). This isn't as annoying as a lot of her solo stuff, with a light electro-pop background that has me hooked from the first note.

Emma Bunton - Maybe
The only song I like by this former-Spice Girl. Sounds almost like cheesy, jazz-lounge music. But it's infectiously happy and fun that I almost forget. It's the badadadadada's, because no one can resist an up-tempo song full of fun, repeating sounds. Or a song that tries to figure that Maybe, maybe I'm in looooooooove...badadadada.

Kelly Osbourne - One Word
This was the last thing I expected from Kelly Osbourne. I mean, from Shut Up! and her cover of Madonna's Papa Don't Preach to this...just wow. I almost didn't download this song when someone on my FL posted it, and when I played it, I was like, "...uh, this is Kelly Osbourne??!!" It is freaking FANTASTIC. OMG, like electro-pop in the same vein of like Groove Coverage, Client, and bands of that sort. I'm obsessed with this song, I can't help it.

Imogen Heap - Come Here Boy
Heavy piano-based song by the fabulous and brilliant Imogen Heap. The verses have a very minimal sound, just a piano and her smoky vocals, and then the choruses morph with just a little something more, taking the song one step further. Beautiful and soulful, and the breakdown is to die for.

Balligomingo - Privilege
Dude, love. This song is so awesome. It's a girl ambient soft electronica and trip-hop. The guy who is behind the band worked with a few of the members of Delerium. The song has such a dreamlike quality to it, much in the same vein as Delerium and Massive Attack.

Kaiser Chiefs - Oh My God
This is one of my all-time favorite songs. I used to listen to it basically nonstop. It’s the demo version, and when I bought the CD, I turned it to this song and went, “...wait, this isn’t the same song.” There is a lo-fi quality to this version. Indie rock at its finest. Song ambles along until the chorus when it’s rough and pushed forward and strong drop beats and loud vocals and intense and yes omfg. Best. song. evah. ♥!!

Pretty Girls Make Graves - All Medicated Geniuses
Another one of my all-time favorite songs. This song is rock with an awesome female lead singer. Energetic, loud, involved, and completely kicking ass. The chorus is immaculate, completely addictive and before you know it, you’re screaming words you don’t know and rocking out. AWESOME OMG.

The Servant - Cells
The Sin City song. Brit indie rock with a dark edge. Low-key and thrumming, it skulks along eerily with a great backbeat and some unique vocals. This song is freaking fantastic.

Daft Punk - Aerodynamic
I've been pretty much obsessed with this song recently. I cannot stop listening. The music is so freaking perfect and just pulls me in. It starts out with an light electronic sound with v. repetitive beats, then goes into something a little rockier/funkier with stronger, more defined beats, then it sounds like an electric guitar-type instrument/sythn that just takes over. I just lovelovelovelove this song. It's so fun and kick-ass and infectious and yes.

Moby - Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad
I have not been able to stop listening to this song. I dled it last night and have probably played it 30 times. I'm not even a fan of Moby, but this song has great pianos, soulful vocals, and a low-key back beat. This song is love.

This song is well...different, but omfg it is so awesome. It's not in English, and it's got a strong drum back beat. It sounds like something that morphed 40s music with electro-dance for a funky, unique twist.

Praga Khan - Breakfast In Vegas
This song is sex, pure and simple. It's sultry, low-key techno-dance. Not annoying epileptic techno, like dark, gritty, sweaty techno. This song is amazing. Amazing.

Since it's the end of the year, I decided to do something special. I'm doing a "best of" kind of rec list. I started this blog in April, with like 20 people from just my friendslist watching. It's grown quite a bit since then (much to my surprise), and a lot of y'all have missed some good stuff. So, since it's the end of the year, I'm doing a recap, along with Christmas recs and some other stuff. So, enjoy!

April - pt. 1
Tori Amos - Gold Dust
This is one of the most beautiful Tori songs there is. It's so simple, and so freaking painful. It's about the past, loss, moving on, and I tear up every single time I hear it, no exceptions. It's probably the best song about loss that I've ever heard.

The New Pornographers - The Fake Headlines
I like the New Pornographers a lot. I mean, it has AC Newman and freaking Neko Case in it. No band can be bad with Neko Case. Starts off kinda slow, but then it picks up to a pace that gets my seal of approval.

Blitzen Trappen - Pink Padded Slippers
From the first opening notes, it moves smoothly and you just wanna take a drive and bob your head. I've never heard of the band, and of course, neither has anyone else. I looked on allmusic, google, ect, couldn't find a thing about them. Sad really. I totally want more by them.

Cat Power - Cross Bones Style
About two years ago, I randomly found this girl's lj while googling song lyrics. I didn't know what lj was, but I clicked on hers and found just lists of songs to dl. I recognized a few I knew, so I started dling others. This song is one of the firsts I dled, one of my first endeavors into "indie" music. I instantly fell in love with the low-key, almost lazy sound. There is some neat harmonizing, and the whole thing is so melodic and just grips you from note one.

Client - Diary Of An 18 Year Old Boy (Wet Dreams Mix)
I love this song. It's not one of those songs that have a catchy beat or gripping riffs, it's like a trance. It's simple, and the lyrics are kinda, um, not exactly porny but def. sexual. She talks in this low voice throughout most of it, then at the end she starts singing and it's so pretty.

Jack Off Jill - Angels
Talk about your pissed off songs...I love this song beyond words. It's hard, and it's painfully pissed off. It has my favorite lyric of all time in it: i'll bask in your forever, fucking waste of time... The words are really fabulous on this song. i wanted to help, to help destroy the world. i wanted to be, to be your special girl... And then she just breaks it down at the end, all screaming and sobbing: i will never make it better, it will always hurt you fucking asshole... Great pissed off, rocking out song.

Orange and Allred - Milk Slippers
This is kind of electro-synth. Minimal style with lots of interesting sounds like beeps and taps. They remind me of Arovane, Mogwai, God Speed You Black Emperor, Her Space Holiday, ect. That whole indie, space rock, shoegazer sound.

Conjure One - Sleep
I adore this song. This is another song I found when I first started branching out musically. It's soft electronica, v. mellow and trance-y. They remind me a lot of the likes of Frou Frou, Delerium, Emiliana Torrini, Daughter Darling, and female artists like that. This is probably one of my "core" songs, meaning part of those 1000 or so songs I could never part with. I just love it too much.

Majandra Delfino - Tatu
I really like Majandra, and it's all my sister's fault. She's obsessed with her. This song is pretty freaking awesome. Talk about your angry break up songs. I'm not even sure how to classify Majandra's music. Angry girl pop-electronica-rock? But yeah, great song.

Postal Service - Be Still My Heart
Indie rock meets electronica meets pop. I love the lyrics of this song, they're so beautiful and sweet. This is probably my favorite Postal Service song.

Thank you so much for filling out my poll! I got some really lovely comments in the text box and some good suggestions. I find it humorous people apologized for not buying more cds or going to more concerts. The reason I asked the question about how many cds/concert tickets you've bought is because I was genuinely curious. I find the debate over Internet music sharing fascinating. My personal feeling is that it's a wonderful thing, for both the consumer and the artist. I can't tell you the number of bands that I've grown to love because of music blogs/lj comms/newsgroups/p2p programs/etc. But that's just me. Whether or not you actually buy a CD or go to a concert because you downloaded a song here doesn't matter to me :D I was just curious as to the correlation of downloading to buying (with this blog in mind in particular).

So, that's my little spiel! Thanks for voting, cause I really am fascinated by that kind of thing. I'm uber-lame and stuff.

It's finals/crunch time for me (as for many of you), so I will still be posting just as regularly, but I apologize ahead of time for any crap-ass descriptions. x_x My brain is mush right now, so yeah. :D

One of my favorite Tori songs. It's heavily influenced by Scottish tradition, with bagpipes and a Scottish setting. Wistful, longing with the typical genius that is Tori. One of my all time favorite songs.
Kristin Hersh - Aching for You
I have this huge, long AU I co-write with a friend, and this is one of the songs I listen to while writing it. Heavily acoustic-based, gravelly vocals, and a true feeling of "aching" without being overly emo or sentimental. Kristin Hersh is fantastic.

Gang Of Four - Damaged Goods
When I have to get up early and make my long-ass commute, I listen to this song on repeat. It's lo-fi punk with an underhanded, erratic beat that just gets under your skin and in your blood and gets you going. Plus, I love the line, I'm thinking that I love you, but I know it's only lust...your kiss so sweet, your sweat so sour...
The Strokes - Juicebox
My other staple hyper song. I lovelovelovelovelovelovelove this song; it's ridiculous. Upbeat indie rock that just explodes with kick-ass goodness. There is no way you can listen to this song and not be hyper. I sit in traffic while screaming the lyrics and dancing around in my seat. I get a lot of weird looks in the mornings.
Everclear - Local God
This is from the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack (which is probably the best soundtrack compilation ever). It's one of those songs that makes you feel like you can do anything - like a "Local God" if you will - and just gets you going with the flirty guitars and strong backbeat.

Bush - Come Down
I never rec Bush, which is sad; they're one of my favorite bands of all-time. This is a languid rock song, slow yet not missing a beat of the bonafide rockness.
Frou Frou - Let Go
For the one person who doesn't already have this song >_> One of my favorite songs, an ultimate "come down"- chill out type song. The gentle softness, yet cutting electronic edge and her rough vocals make this a perfect song for getting lost and just pulling into yourself.
Martina Sorbara - Bonnie and Clyde II
I've recced this before, but I can never rec it enough. Whenever I'm feeling sad, depressed, vulnerable, or want to just have content stillness, I listen to this song. It's beautiful, with amazing pianos and percussion, and the words and her vocals are just the icing on the cake. There is something about this song that just reaches down and grips me somewhere deep. It makes me happy and sad at the same time. It's hard to describe, but it's one of the only songs that can make me feel fiercely.

Elliott Smith - Twilight
I love Elliott Smith, because everything he does is gold. But I heard this on the radio the other morning, and it was absolutely perfect. The stripped down sound of it, his sad vocals, and the perfect lyrics. I'm already somebody's baby... Elliott Smith does no wrong, so you won't regret downloading this song. Stunning.
Lamb - B Line
I mentioned Lamb in my journal earlier today because Dominic Monaghan mentioned liking them, and it made me squee cause I loff Lamb. And someone requested Lamb, cause they didn't know them. And that is just sad. They're a trip-hop band. The lead singer has this unique voice, and this song is more rock-based than trip-hop-based than a lot of their songs. This song is fun cause the chorus is upbeat and all over the place, with the lead singer going, "BADAP-BADAP-BADAP-BADAP". And we all know how much I love songs that use "bops".

I download a lot of music from newsgroups, and I lucked up and downloaded a mix playlist that is amazing. There isn't a bad song on it. And of course, I can't find any info on the bands. Oh well. So, I present you with that. Enjoy!

Performance - Surrender
An electro-rock song that starts v. synth and electronica, then bursts into a more electro-rock based beat. It goes back and forth between heavy, full beats and minimal synth sounds while switching from a female to male singer. Upbeat, energetic song with lots of sound.

Seeing Scarlet - Ugly Girl
Indie rock song with good riffs and percussion. Kind of a medium beat, not too fast, but not slow. It ambles along with some interesting key and tempo changes, and the vocals are freaking awesome at points. Involved and intriguing.

The Automatic - Recover
Loud and busy, much in the vein of Bloc Party. Great rock riffs, an awesome repeating percussion in the chorus. Fast-paced and fun, fantastic indie rock song. One of my favorites from this list.

Villeneuve - Tomorrow Never
Simply beautiful, amazing song. Low-key, flowing music with interesting use of instruments like violins, and including what sounds like a xylophone in the background. The lead singer has a stunning, dreamy sort of voice. The song winds down towards the end, then morphs into a sythn-electro-triphop piece for the last minute. Amazing amazing. This is my favorite song on this list. Download it!

Parisman - A Place That Glows
An interesting mix of suspended, quiet movements, flowing, slower rock bars, and wailing vocals. A rather low-key, mellow song with an eerie edge to it.

Humanzi - Fix The Cracks
A deep and urgent indie rock song framed by electro-rock chords. Fast-paced infectious tempo that pulls you in and doesn't let you out. Completely makes me want to rock out, drive fast, and sing along. Fantastic rock song; def. a fave.

The Feeling - Fill My Little World
This band reminds me of the likes of Keane, Supergrass, and bands like that. Acoustic, clear riffs with a background of fantastic piano music. Very much vocally driven with a nice beat. This song makes me happy for some reason - I think it's those pianos and the backup vocals.

Maria Taylor - Speak Easy
This wasn't on the same list I got the above songs. Maria Taylor fronts Azure Ray (another fantastic band). This is a solo project and it's amazing. Light and jazzy with strong back-and-forth sort of beat. A sweet little happy song. Loff!

Son, Ambulance - Maria In Motion
Indie pop-rock. Fun and quirky, with a bit of a Spanish-tinge. Acoustic and lo-fi, and simply amazing. The leader of this band, Joe Knapp, provided vocals on some of Bright Eyes's tracks (they're both on the same label, Saddle Creek). I'm falling madly in love with this song.

Keren Ann - Not Going Anywhere
A beautiful, mellow acoustic song. The song features some stunning female vocals, nice harmonies, fleeting violins, and a clear sound to it. Featured on the last Grey's Anatomy. Wonderful song.

VCR-Bratcore
This song has a v. erratic and noisy sound. It starts with an interesting beep that sounds like an old school video games, and carries that in the background throughout. But the song is so addicting and upbeat. Just makes you want to move around crazily while rocking out. Fun, unique, fantastic song.

Mark McAdam - Too Hard
Also from Grey's Anatomy (they play a lot of good music on there). A typical low-key acoustic indie rock love song. Breathy, dreamy vocals and strong guitars and lazy tempos and great pianos and all over goodness.

Mellowdrone - Orange Marmalade
Starts out v. v. mellow and trancey, with spacey and drop-out sounds. Then it picks up into a languid indie rock song with some interesting percussions. Cool song.

Maximo Park - Apply Some Pressure
I lovelovelove Maximo Park. Everything they do is gold. They are schitzophrenic, with changing beats and tempos and keys every few bars, but it's fun and upbeat and rockin' and kick-ass. Fun, awesome indie rock with a kick.

VHS or Beta - Forever
Loff this song. It's instrumental, with a v. Daft Punk vibe. Electronic-rock with a great beat perfect for dancing around, driving, or hanging out. Great great song.

Girl pop-rock with an energetic, angry edge. One of those scream out in the car, dance around your room sexily in the mirror while no one's looking songs.

Matthew Good - Song For The Girl
He's got some of the most interesting vocals. A ballady rock song with a good swaying beat and strong musical background. For those mellower days.

Of Montreal - Pancakes For One
A melancholy love song with a great sound. V. reminiscent of 60's rock, with a Beatles-meets-The Kinks kind of sound. V. catchy and awesome.

Mazzy Star - Five String Serenade
This song is so amazingly beautiful. Lethargic, quiet music with her signature ethereal vocals. Haunting and passionately saddening. Just gorgeous.

Spill Canvas - Sunsets and Car Crashes
Acoustic indie rock song with wailing vocals against a good backdrop.

I have become obsessed with PANIC! At The Disco. My sister summed them up nicely: You kind of like them at first, and then they infect you and you just have to listen over and over. They are upbeat and quirky and slightly dark and kind of screamy-emo. It's an amalgamation of so many sounds and it's flipping FANTASTIC. Everyone should download them and have them infect you.

New Pornographers - The Bleeding Heart Show
I love the New Pornographers. This song is from their new cd and omg it's fantastic. It's a little slower than a lot of their songs. It's got an edge to it, kind of moody and sad, with Neko Case's fantastically unique voice slicing through the music as everyone sings along. This song is fabfabfab.

Fiona Apple - Tymps (The Sick In The Head Song)
This is from the actual release of Fiona's Extraordinary Machine. It's typical Fiona; quirky with a strong strange beat and her smoky vocals. ♥ Fiona.

Death From Above 1979 - Little Girl
This song is so bad-ass. It's cutting and sexy, fast and erratic like a flashing strobe light. The lead singer's voice is strained and gritty, like he's screaming into a sweaty dance crowd. A good-time, going out, sexy song.

Emiliana Torrini - Serenade
I heard this on Grey's Anatomy this past Sunday, and I was like, "OMG EMILIANA!" And I've been listening to it since. From her new CD, a beautiful ballad with an acoustic background and airy, dreamy vocals. Stunning song, exactly the kind of perfection you'd expect from Emiliana.

Nil Lara - Fighting For My Love
An old, staple favorite song of mine. It's a sweet folky-alt-rock song that just gets ingrained into my skull whenever I hear it, and I must listen over and over. Brilliant.
