Personally, I'm a Tom/Lynette lover... how can a person not be :P Tom Scavo (doug savant) is hawt! while Flicka is just freakin' awesome. Alright, down to buisness:

Divisioned in Three parts to help readers bookmark the fic if it is too long for some people in one sitting. This is my second DH fanfic so don't expect much (lol); I could have put more into it (& done better) but lacked the restraint to do so. :P I hope you guys read, enjoy, and comment...

Title: Through All the Pain and Sorrow

Summary: On the heels of a broken heart, Lynette seeks comfort in the arms of her best friend.

(Part One)

"What do you mean you had an affair???"
Lynette had screamed this vehemently out, squeezing every ounce of air left in her lungs; she hoped these angrily spewed words would ring violent tunes in Tom’s ears for an eternity. Tom had just blurted this confession out over one of their scheduled monthly at-home dates.

Lynette looked forward to the end of the month when each took time out of their own personal problems and focused on one another. It was a time when the kids were out in school or at a sleep-over, a time when they didn’t need to get dressed up to show how much each cared for the other. She yearned every minute of the day to spend more time with Tom and the kids. She knew that even though they had been married for several years, that their love for one another never ceased to extinguish itself from the newly founded love that they, along with most new couples, once knew. Lynette saw Tom as a caring and devoted husband and father; she saw him as loyal and true; most of all, Lynette knew Tom would never hurt her. However, since this night Tom's news had quickly changed her mind...

"Sweetie, calm down. It was years ago, in the past when we had separated..."
Lynette stood there wide eyed with tears in her eyes. How could Tom have done this to her; how could a man who she thought she knew inside and out have cut her into so many pieces like this? She was outraged; she was hurt; her soul was torn and her heart left shattered.

"SEPARATED??? Tom! We had a five-day breaker!!! I didn't expect for you to run into the arms of another lover... Damn"
She cut off, her emotions were overwhelming her. Tears started flooding her eyes. They stung; they stung like knives, jabbing at her heart and tugging on what she thought was a blissful marriage.

"Lynette, please..."

"Please? Please? You're begging now?!? I can't believe this, I can't believe..."
Tom cut her off as Lynette sat down and hung her head in disbelief. She was hoping that she was experiencing some horrid nightmare that appeared to have no end in sight, wishing to see a light that would lead her out of it all.

"Lynette listen, Annabelle and I..."
Lynette stood up to meet her husband face-to-face.

"What!?! Annabelle? You never said it was Annabelle! Son-of-a-bitch Tom..."
She pushed Tom hard on the upper body praying it would jog some sense into him to stop talking, unfortunately for Tom's sake he kept on.

"Baby, listen. Both Annabelle and I were going through some tough times"
Tom rubbed Lynette's shoulders thinking that could ease her down from that phase of rage she was in. Lynette flicked his touch away from her body; it made her cringe now for him to touch her - she hated him. Every single word he spoke to her made her tremble with hatred; it made her feel less like a human and more like an abused mangy dog. She could barely stand to look at him for the time being so she just stood there with arms folded, looking back at the man she married and vowed to spend her life with. Lynette came to realize that this man, Tom Scavo, wasn’t the man she married; she also came to realize that she was no longer the woman he had married.

Lynette got tense. Her whole body ached; her arms, legs, and heart were sore. Tom looked at her, he saw a woman who was depleted of everything he had ever known. He regretted having too much to drink; he regretted confessing his sins in the manner that he had; most of all he regretted that one night of desperation spent in the arms of a woman he had never really loved as he had this woman. Lynette was his everything, his world, his touchstone. To him, she was perfection and beauty, love and elegance, mother and wife. Tom stared at her not knowing what she was thinking, trying to unearth what she must be feeling. He saw a pain he had never in his life ever saw; it was deep, man, was it deep. It could fill oceans worldwide, feed the hungry, and aid the poor. If this kind of pain were tangible, it could stretch from the inner core of this earth to the outer reaches of Pluto, a two-way ticket.

Lynette started to slip and move away from him toward the bedroom. She couldn’t believe what Tom had said; how could a simple argument over the children get far enough to end in a five-day break from their relationship? How could a simple break lead a man to play with fire? She didn’t want to know the reason behind the affair was because Tom was feeling down on his luck…

"Tough times? Is that supposed to justify it all Tom? …IS IT?!?"
Lynette broke once again. Tears were running down her cheeks more rapidly than any God-given waterfall had ever moved. Those saltine drops of fear had fallen over the suitcase she was opening...

"Lynette, stop! You're being irrational; the affair was more than half-a-decade ago! Let's just work this out please, maybe go back to counseling?"
Tom tried to coax her into staying and making their marriage work, but Lynette, in the dire situation she faced, wouldn't have that at the moment.

"No!!! Don't fucking baby me! Shit, Tom... do you now how much you screwed this up for you and I? DO YOU??!?"
Lynette finished packing up the small brown leather carrying bag and started to zip it up when Tom put his hands over hers.

"Lynette, I'm sorry! Please, sweetie forgive me! I know I've done an awful thing but that's in the past now. I love you with all my heart; I love you!!! You have to know that. Please don't leave..."
As soon as Tom finished, Lynette swiped her hands from underneath his and grabbed the suitcase heading out of the bedroom.

"It's too late Tom; not only did you cheat on me but it was with your ex - the girl you know I can't stand!! What's worse is that you lied to me for five years about it!!!"
She turned away from him and started for the front door. "If the kids need me, I'll be at Bree's.... If you need me," she stuttered for words, "if you need me, then you can just fuck off!!!" with that Lynette had left Tom standing in the pain of his own misdeeds.

(Part Two)

*knock, knock*... *knock*
Bree knew the rhythm of the knock and was almost certain who was at her door. She had some muffins in the oven and was baking for Danielle’s abstinence meeting of which she used to accompany with John at times. Bree placed a new batch of blueberry cheesecake flavored muffins into the oven and took the other ones out all before answering the door.

"Hold on, I'm coming!"
She threw off the apron and pot holders as she headed toward the knocking.

"Hey Bree, can I stay over for tonight?"
Lynette couldn't bear to make eye contact with Bree, she was ashamed of what Tom had done to her... She stood there with the suitcase loosely gripped in her hand, finding something on Bree’s front porch floor to watch so that Bree wouldn’t see the tears that were building skyscrapers in her eyes. Lynette tried so hard to hold it together but the tears blinded her and her emotions drained her.

"Oh my goodness sweetie, what's the matter?"
Bree grabbed Lynette's dampened face and brought it up so that their eyes could meet. As soon as Bree had done this, Lynette dropped her suitcase on the front porch and grabbed Bree's waist holding it tight.

"Tom and I are having a tough time; I just found out he's been lying to me for the last couple of years about an affair he had..."
She continued to sob into Bree's bright floral gown as Bree gripped her harder after finding out the news.

"Oh sweetie..."
Bree couldn't finish; Lynette cut her off.

"I thought I loved him; I thought I could trust him!!!"
She pulled away from the bear-hug and wiped her nose. "My marriage is a sham!"

"Awww, Lynette... come in here."
Bree grabbed Lynette's very light suitcase and motioned her into the house. Bree sat the carrying bag near the door and walked Lynette over to the sofa so that they could talk things out.

"So... I'm guessing Tom told you about Annabelle?"
Bree’s words sent a shiver down Lynette’s spine.

"I'm sorry, what? How did you know that was who Tom had an affair with?"
Lynette was flabbergasted, how did Bree know about Annabelle?

"Oh dear; I'm sorry sweetie I thought Tom told you. I walked into your house one evening while you were out to drop you off a fruit basket I thought you would enjoy, well I heard some noise coming from your bedroom... Honestly Lynette I thought you were home and just upstairs cleaning; I walked in on Tom and Annabelle in the middle of the act."
Bree held Lynette's hands tight in her own as a sign of sympathy. Bree knew of Tom’s infidelity and never in the years following ever mention one word of it to her best friend. She felt horrible the way and time Lynette found out; she was distressed on how it would appear that she kept something so huge from someone she loved so dearly.

"WHAT?!? YOU KNEW?"
Lynette took her hands away and brushed a tear off her cheek.

"I thought Tom would tell you; I didn't want to get in the middle of this..."
Lynette cut her off, she was pissed at the world: Pissed at Tom for cheating, pissed at Bree for keeping his secret, and just plain pissed at herself for believing the vows she had made with Tom.

"How could you? You're supposed be watching my back Bree!"

"Lynette, I was. I knew if you found out right there and then from me there was no chance in hell that you and Tom would try to make it work." Bree slowed down her words and choose them carefully, "I know you love Tom; I didn’t want to see your expectations blow up in flames. I thought that if Tom himself had told you first-hand that maybe there could be hope in redemption. He was planning on telling you the moment it happened Lynette, but the timing just wasn’t right. I just recently found out that he had still been keeping it from you just a day before today. I’m truly sorry sweetie…"

"Well.... you would have been right about not working it out if I found it out then. However, I don't know that after all these years I can even go on and pretend nothing has happened... You know he always said to me that my watchful-eye toward him and women was irrational?!? How could he say that knowing what he did?!!!"
Lynette firmly looked into Bree’s eyes and saw her devotion, concern, and sympathy in this predicament.

"Sweetie, listen..."
Bree’s words fell short over Lynette’s.

"No I'm tired of listening! I just want to go to lay down; I have a major headache."
Lynette painfully got up off of the couch and headed towards the staircase with Bree quickly following.

"Okay sweetie whatever you want. You can lay in my bed for tonight; I don't think Danielle or Andrew would be all that happy with their room being invaded."
She chuckled as she led Lynette up her staircase by the small of her back. Something caught Bree's attention: Bree started to feel a tingling sensation at the tips of her fingers where her skin made contact with Lynette’s body. She began to salivate and grow a little warmer than she had been. Bree loved Lynette as a friend but saw her much differently now that Lynette had confided in her. Everything about Lynette started to flash in Bree’s mind from her various memories. Bree saw Lynette laughing, saw her dancing, saw her treading through Mary-Alice’s pool; Bree saw Lynette in a way she had never seen any man or woman before. The funny thing is, is that Bree knew this wasn't the first time she felt this way. She had been gravitating toward this woman of allure for several months now and was waiting on a perfect time to tell her how she felt...

"Lynette, I want you to know three little words that I’m finding really hard to say at the moment"
They reached the top of the staircase and turned the corner to Bree’s bedroom. The bedroom was obsessive-compulsive neat; the bed had not one wrinkle on its outer covers, the folds of the curtains lay parallel to one another, Bree's pillows were at fourty-five degree angles with the bed. The room was perfect to seek comfort in. They reached the sides of the bed and Lynette helped Bree take off the day comforter along with its decently color-designed throw pillows.

"What is it Bree?"
Lynette looked up with those piercing eyes that always seemed to claw away at Bree’s tough outer layer. She stood there waiting for the words of wisdom she thought that Bree had…

"I… uh, I…"
Bree couldn’t finish, she felt horrible for even suggesting it subconsciously.

"Bree, come on."

"I love you. There I said it!"
Bree stood there waiting for Lynette to say something, but all that Lynette could do was smile as she climbed into bed gently whispering a thank you. Bree didn’t want to go misunderstood so she spoke out what her heart’s letter might have read.

"No Lynette. I love you like no man or woman should…"
As she was speaking these words Bree, on the opposite side of the bed, started to climb beneath the covers to meet Lynette face-to-face. As she was doing this, an astonished Lynette propped her head on her hands to hear what Bree had to further say.

"Lynette," Bree started not knowing where she was going, "I’ve been so grateful for a person like you. You make me feel like I’ve never felt before. I love you in a way that I know Tom should be loving you… I’m sorry if things don’t work out for you Lynette, but if you ever want someone in your life that could love you until the sun burns out and the oceans dry, choose me…"
Lynette was shocked. She never knew Bree felt this way or had the urge for anything other than the opposite-sex. Lynette was out of her element; she didn’t want Bree to feel horrible like she had been feeling, so she did the only thing she could think of at the moment.

"Bree, it’s okay."
She kissed her redheaded best friend right where the most elegant of words could have come out flowing but instead were corked with Lynette’s rosy-red lips. It was sensual to Bree; it felt warm and soft, wet and cold at the same time. Every hair on her neck stood erect as if waiting for a message from the brain to tell her to move on from this and into a larger, more meaningful act. Before Bree could indulge herself into this, Lynette pulled away.

"I can’t imagine what’s going through your mind right now Bree. I just want to let you know that I’m sorry but I do plan on making things work with Tom. I love him and thanks to you I’ve come to realize that. I’m sorry but I can’t love you right now the way I’m seeing you love me."

"Oh, well that’s fine then I guess."
Bree tried to remain strong but her words skipped like an old broken record.

"Sweetie honestly if there was no Tom or any kids or…" Lynette stopped and accidentally changed the topic, "do you smell that?"
Lynette sat up in the bed and began to sniff because the smell was getting stronger.

"Oh my Muffins!!!"
Bree dashed out of the bedroom, down a flight of stairs, and into the smoke-filled kitchen. In a weird way she was sort of glad that her muffins burned because it made an easy way out of an awkward situation for her.

As soon as she pulled the muffins out of the oven, the smoke detector went off. Bree threw the muffins in the garbage and tossed the pan in the sink to later be washed. She took her time, not wanting to go back upstairs to a person she had embarrassed herself around. Bree thought of everything her and Lynette could be doing right now, wondering if their future would’ve been as blissful as she dreamed it would be. Depression had overcome Bree; she softly wept into the dish rag that she left had out to dry her plates with. She was still sobbing when Lynette came into the kitchen. Bree hadn’t noticed her until she spoke…

"Bree? Are you okay? They’re just muffins sweetie."
Lynette chuckled as she came over to rub Bree’s back in hopes to coax her worries.

"No," Bree jumped a little at Lynette’s comment and was ashamed to let Lynette see her weakness. "No, it’s not that. I just…"
Bree couldn’t finish, she put her face into the dishrag once more.

"Oh," Lynette then knew, "Bree I have nothing against you sweetie. I still love you; it’s just that the love I have for you and the love I have for Tom are two completely different kinds. I love you with my whole heart and soul Bree, I’m just no in love with you. I’m sorry, but seeing how I make you feel, makes me see how Tom made and still makes me feel. I love him Bree; thank you for showing me that. There is not one person on this street that knows me as well as you do, not even Tom knows my secrets. There is something there though Bree that Tom and I must work out, something that will make me stronger and better, something that will change the course of love for me. I hope you find a person who can make you feel the way Tom has made me feel," Lynette stopped and added, "well, besides the breaking-of-my-heart thing."
Lynette chuckled with those same saltine drops of waste that clouded her eyes earlier that day. She felt she could forgive Tom since he did confess and since they were on a break; sure she didn’t think that was a justifiable reason to cheat, but a break is a non-continuous event that suggests complete separation. Lynette felt for Tom; she loved him. She knew she had dark secrets of her own that if she told Tom she’d like him to be as forgiving as she planned on being.

"Bree I hate to leave you like this, but Tom and I need to mend what’s left of our broken hearts."

"I understand; you’re free to go. I just want you to know Lynette that I hope nothing changes between us; I hope you don’t see me differently because of this. I don’t want us to stop being friends…"
Bree trailed off. She couldn’t bare to hear what Lynette had to say if it happened to be detrimental to their friendship.

"Don’t be silly sweetie. Nothing will ever change the fact that I care for you. You my best friend; without you, I’d basically have no one to gossip with. You are my north star sweetie, you guide me in directions and pathways I never knew existed in life. You lead me through the world when my eyes are shut to the silhouettes around me; when I feel like giving up or giving in to Tom or the kids, you’re there. You are the best friend anyone could ever ask for; I’d never in a million years give you up."
With those words, Lynette headed for the front door grabbing the suitcase on her way out.

(Part Three)

*knock, knock* ……*knock*
Tom stood up from the kitchen table where he had soaked the wood in his tears to answer the back door. It was Lynette; sure she had a key but she didn’t feel like using it at a time such as this. Tom looked at the beauty standing at the threshold of their marriage waiting to come back in and repair what was left of their trappings. Tom’s eyes grew bigger and his mouth fell open; he was shocked that Lynette had her suitcase with her and a little smile on her tear-moistened face. Tom was also surprised at how much more gorgeous she had become in the couple of hours that she had to clear her mind.

"Lynette, what are you doing back here; I swore you were gone forever. Did you miss something? The kids?"
There she stood, at the door with a soft glowing smile that graced her as she shook her head from side to side.

"No… you, you’re touch. You’re touch is what I’ve been missing, Tom. I’m sorry I over-exaggerated; you were right that was the past and we are on a break. I don’t want you to think that everything is alright between us though; I mean, we still have things to sort out. Being on a break doesn’t fully justify what you did to me Tom. I plan on forgiving and forgetting because Bree made me realize how good we are together…How sweet we are to one another."

"You’re willing to work things out then? Is that why you’re here?"
Tom’s face was transformed into a jubilance so much so that Lynette could even see the twinkle of new hope in his eyes.

"Yes of course, but first you have to let me say something…"

"What? Anything!"

"You tore me to pieces like a hungry wolf would out in the wild, Tom. I, in no way, have fully forgiven you yet. I am here to say that I do want this marriage to work. I'm willing to make it through all the pain and sorrow; I love you with every aching bone in my body, and I can’t see my life without you there beside me. However, I also want you to know that I have a secret that I’ve been keeping from you. In order to make this marriage work, I have to come clean about it."
Lynette walked inside the barren house where all of Pandora’s box of love, fear, and hate had escaped. She felt a cold shiver passing her husband; she sat the bag down at the foot of the steps and motioned toward the living room. Lynette sat on the couch waiting for Tom to accompany her which he willingly yet cautiously did.

"Tom, in the beginning of our marriage was a tough time for me. We were just starting to build our lives together, you and I had very demanding jobs, and there was just no time left outside of our own little world for anything other than what we were dealing with. I didn’t know what to do Tom, so…" there was a pause long enough for Lynette to catch her breath but not long enough for Tom to catch his. She continued, "Tom I want you to know that I’ve been faithful to you but not honest; uh…" Lynette had cast her eyes downward not wanting to see the face she was afraid would break. Lynette finished stumbling on the way, "you see Tom, the five-day breaker wasn’t just for our marriage, I had scheduled and went through an abortion…"
There they sat two-feet from each other, two-feet from tranquility, when Tom realized Lynette wasn’t the same woman that he had married; she was stronger. He loved her though and felt that throughout his entire body. They were destined to be together; she was his light, his dark, his colorful prismatic world. He wasn’t going to let something like this torture him, at least he knew she was faithful, something he neglected to fully be.

"It’s okay. It’ll all be okay… I wouldn’t care Lynette if you murdered my father or assassinated the President of the free world; I’m just glad that you and I are still together and willing to make it all work. I love you so much; if you would’ve left me, I might as well have been dead."
Tom grabbed Lynette’s hands in his and felt them tremble beneath. He stood and picked her up in his strong embrace. Lynette, with her arms over her husband’s shoulders, could smell everywhere her heart was and where it would stay: home.

"I love you too…"
After the little antidote of Tom’s, Lynette laughed. She couldn't believe how forgiving Tom was, how forgiving she should have been. Lynette stared up at and into his green tear-glazed eyes and saw her reflection; it centered on the black hole that held a precious emerald ring, his pupil. She knew then that her soul was no longer lost but was forever kept with his. She took Tom’s hand in hers, and went up the staircase to their bedroom. They sat there for half-an-hour just staring at one another, afraid to speak first in a conversation that would mean salvation for their marriage. Soon Tom spoke; he answered Lynette's questions and she answered his. They embraced and came clean that night, talked for hours on end about absolutely nothing. The kids were away, the neighbors in their own lives, and Tom and Lynette were in their bedroom together working things out for their marriage, their kids, but mainly it was for themselves.

Instructions for layout:
Includes color palette
(a lot, but worth the time not creating your own)

GENERAL INFORMATION
Go to Manage then Customize
Switch to S1 customization
Select "Custom Colors" instead of default theme
Paste colors from the color palette I have near the end into each specific slot
Get the actual layout code and paste it in "Overrides"
Make sure you replace everything you need to replace: U S E R N A M E, URL of BACKGROUND, URL of HEADER

you HAVE HAVE HAVE to define a website ;)

FOR THE ACTUAL LAYOUT CODE:
Replace all occurances of U S E R N A M E with your username

If you have an underscore before or after your username like mine "_leolily_" you have to replace the entire URL so...

instead of "http://U S E R N A M E.livejournal.com/profile" it would be 
"http://users.livejournal.com/U S E R N A M E/profile"

Replace all occurances of "URL of BACKGROUND" or "URL of HEADER" with the url your image server provides.

Create Three different Friends filters (people, fandoms, graphics). Subdivide your friends accordingly. In order to see these you when you click the links, you must make all three PUBLIC (while editing the filters just hit the public button for each one).
