Last night (Saturday Oct. 30th) the bar I usually frequent had it's annual costume party thingy.

I went as Phillip Marlow, rocking the fedora, weight-of-the-world-on-my-shoulders expression, and brown trenchcoat to their fullest power.

One tough fedora for one tough bastard. A strong fedora can give a sense power in the wearer. I doubt he could be such a successful adventurer if he was worried about whether a lack of fedora and the resulting unruly mop of hair made him look unflattering.
