Burn
She watched as the coffin disappeared slowly into the ground.
Her eyes burned from salty tears.
Her cheek burned from where it rested against the rough fabric of Brennan’s jacket.
Her hands burned from the cold winds that whipped around them.
Her heart burned for a lost opportunity she was certain she would never have again.
She was completely oblivious to the way Hodgins’ eyes burned into the side of her face, watching as she blinked away the tears, causing the faintest hints of mascara to draw a trail down her cheeks.
Slowly he reached out and caught hold of her hand, lacing her fingers with his own.
The coolness of his touch eased the burning of her soul, more than she was willing to admit.
