Virginia Lee Craig (17 November 1890 – 17 January 1959; née Browning), known by her nickname Jennie and having also used her stepfather's surname Emmons, was an American homemaker.
Early life
[edit | edit source]Virginia Lee Browning was born on 17 November 1890 in Bono, Arkansas, to Lee and Savannah Browning. Her father died while she was an infant and her mother married George Emmons in 1891. That year or the next, they moved to Teague, Texas, where George and Savannah had five children. Around 1910, they returned to Arkansas after a man attempted to break into their home.
Personal life

[edit | edit source]After returning to Arkansas, she met Sam Craig, a farmer. They married on 21 January 1912. On 28 October, she gave birth to their first son, Elsie. In 1914, their son Willie was born, and then Ernest and Felix in 1917 and 1919. By 1920, they were living in Black Oak, Arkansas, where Felix died at 10 months old. Their daughter Thelma was born in Bono and Virginia's half sibling R. Wilburn Emmons died, followed by the birth of their sixth child Harold and the death of Virginia's mother.
Virginia gave birth to two more children in 1934 and 1935, named Arthur and Louise. Louise passed away 11 months later. By 1935, the Craig family had moved once again to Big Creek, Arkansas. On 17 May 1947, Virginia's husband Samuel passed away in Bono.
Religion
[edit | edit source]Craig was raised Pentecostal but became a member of the Churches of Christ later in life.
Death
[edit | edit source]She passed away on 17 January 1959 in Jonesboro and was buried in Trinity Cemetery in Bono.
