I've taken up doing my posting from Dreamwidth, and letting it crosspost to LJ. But I've noticed that the vast majority of my comments are still coming from LJ. And that's even though the majority of the "active" members of my FL are over here, at least in name. (By active, I mean, the ones who are likely to comment.)

Just curious. The big Dreamwidth launch got a lot of attention on my FL, but it doesn't look like it resulted in much real movement. I can understand that. A real exodus would be a hugely difficult thing to manage. The reconstitution of a community on a new platform, with each member of the community having to make the decision to move independently, would be a pretty major thing.

I'm liking it over here, actually. I have some RSS feeds that I never thought to add on LJ. The newness and smaller size of the greater community means no spambots -- which means I can leave my postings unlocked over here. I don't suppose that aspect will last forever, but I do like it. I never really liked the idea of locking down my journal, but the LJ spambot problem made it necessary.

I'm not going to stop posting to LJ, obviously. But I wonder about the future of this community if people are just staking out accounts here to reserve their names, but not actually using the service.
