[049] Action
[Lieutenant Helga Sinclair had woken up with a jolt. At first, she thought she'd just been dreaming. The feeling that had woken her up was like hitting a hard surface after the feeling of falling. She thought that, maybe, she'd just been dreaming about the past.
But... no.
She had another feeling now, as her mind cleared. It felt like someone had poured ice-- a lot of ice-- down her spine.
The solider turned on the television set in her room. This felt like-- but she couldn't be sure. But then she saw it. She watched the picture on the screen, watched the reception fight against the inevitable. And then she saw the map. Saw the darkness.
When the TV gave out, she grabbed her comm and set it to contact the staff. The moment she turned it on, the noise was almost unbearable. She flipped it off just as quickly and threw it across the room.
Helga got to her feet, pulling on her boots and trench. She had only napped, no reason to change out of the outfit she'd been wearing. Her head was pounding. She felt restless, and her hands were shaking. There was a whisper in her ear-- her name-- but no one was there when she turned.
She left her room and descended the stairs. She'd go to the administration building. That was the only option, she decided. There had to be a public announcement system there. Something that wasn't comm based. Something she could use to reach the entire school.
They needed to regroup. Form a plan of attack. Or escape. They needed to do something.
She used the handrail to brace herself as she took the stairs quickly.
Damn it!
Why couldn't she stop her hands from shaking?]
