Notebook and other non traditional sketches

** Notebook sketches needed!! **

Hi everyone. I know a couple weeks ago I was the one asking for submissions for another project for college, though that one's currently been dropped due to a low amount of submissions (the topic was admittingly strange).

I was wondering though, if anyone had any non traditional surface sketches for this new gallery idea? By that I mean notebook, sticky note, hey even your shoe sketches, basically anything drawn on non traditional surfaces, or surfaces other than artbook or art paper. Perhaps you doodled it at work, or at school, or at a meeting. People often come up with intersting, unfinished (sometimes finished) ideas due to the monotony of listening to someone talk. Notebook sketches are intimate, and it's fun seeing what is created in an every day environment.

Any submissions please sent to vividarchetype@gmail.com. Please submit them no later than Tuesday, December the 15th. I know I'm cutting it close, so any submissions will be much appreciated!! And the more submissions the merrier! My gallery should be up by December the 16th (when my project is due). I will post it here for everyone to see.

Thanks again!

** CALL OUT FOR ARTISTS **

** CALL OUT FOR ARTISTS ** [01 Dec 2009|04:14pm]

amateur_artists
[elusive_dreamer]
[ mood | hopeful ]

*** Attention artists! ***

First time poster on a mission.

This is for a college project. I'm making a webpage featuring a gallery of a variety of artist's works. I need people to draw/paint/sketch half of the right side of a face (the subject's right, and you can use an already completed work as long as you made it, or have permission from the artist), and any photograph of a face of your choice for the left half of the face. You can alter the photo in anyway that that you think it fits better with the right half. I'm really interested in what people will come up with. Please put your name, initials, or some manner of ownership either on the work or in the description and send it to vividarchetype@gmail.com. Also please comment in this post that you contributed, so I can make sure that I got your email. I'll post the gallery's website here so everyone can view it. The website should be done by mid December. Multiple submissions are welcomed.

I'll greatly appreciate any contributions, but please submit your work or works before December 12th.

Thank you so much!

**

If this is not the right place to post this, please delete my entry.

Hi All,

I recently joined this community and thought I should post my first artwork here.

***

First_Spring_Preview

It is summer time in New Zealand. The first sign of spring is always ice melting as the air gets warmer.

Painted from scratch in Photoshop using my new wacom Bamboo tablet. I'm just a beginner and this is only my second digital painting. It was initially a rough sketch done to practice skintones and hair (which I'm not entirely satisfied with!). Later, I went ahead and added the background and other elements. There are too many mistakes which I didn't notice until too late. Your critiques/comments are welcome.

First Spring

***

P.S.: Does anyone here know if DeviantArt allows hotlinking to images from the gallery? If yes, how can I hotlink to the "full view" image directly, without having to show the deviant thumbnail?

Thanks in advance.

A question!

Hello everyone; new member here. :) I thought I'd start out with tossing out a question for the experienced digital people to chew on!

I'm thinking about buying a new computer and planning to get Painter 9 to go with it, but I'm not sure how strong and fast I need the computer to be for the program to work well. Are there any computer whizzos around that have any tips on processor speeds and memory sizes and those things for me? With my current computer I've never been able to use the watercolour brushes in Painter, since they take forever to first simply register on the canvas and then dry if I make them very large. Ideally, the new computer would be able to handle them. (We're talking canvas sizes of 2000+ pixels here, so the brushes get pretty big.)

Sorry for going all technical on you folks. :)

hey everyone,
I'm trying to learn how to draw 'digitally'. I can somewhat draw on paper ;) But I've never been able to make the jump from paper to computer. I even have a little wacom tablet. I know you all started somewhere... are there any noob/basic tutorials that go step-by-step? Really detailed would be nice.

Thought I'd ask, since most of you show such nice 'doodles' ;)

I haven't ahd much time to complete anything but I do ahve a few sketches and WIP's I'd like to show off... 2 of which I just found tonight on my computer after having forgot about them for over a month.

OMG IMAGE HEAVY Ohnoes! D: I's Sorry.

Okay so it's obvious where some pencil marks are done on this when I started it but all the details and the fox in the background are digitally done.

Comments? Yes...
But keep in mind most are unfinished or done in very little time. The two reference sheets were done in less the 3-4 hours (I mean both together not 3-4 hours for each).

</div>

A frustrated noob :(

Hey guys,
My first post here. Anyway, this community looks friendly so I thought I'd get some suggestions here.

I'm a comp sci major and that means no creativity, all code, all the time! I finally had the time to take website design and we have to design our own pages. This is the problem: I'm the only comp. sci. major in there and the rest are visual communication majors. This means they can whip up nice artsy stuff quickly and make much nicer pages.

I would like to compose a cute art piece of my own to be used as a background image for my class website. Oh yeah, more info: I rarely draw but when I do, I'm halfway decent at it. By no means am I great at it, but usually I can produce something worthwhile. I've tried messing around with Paint/<insert other="other" apps="apps" here="here"> but I become so frustrated, that I just quit. To me, there's no comparison! There's nothing like drawing on a piece of paper with a pencil. So I thought a tablet would be a worthwhile investment. My concentration is game design, so even after this semester, in the summer, I plan on working with the tablet a LOT more. So now that I have the tablet, again, I'm getting very frustrated.

For instance, I have an unfinished piece that I doodled on paper. I want to take this piece and 'digitize it'.. I want to add nice lines, colour, and make it look like a cute piece altogether. I have Corel Painter. As a novice, I don't know what steps to take: do I scan it in (and if so, then what steps??); do I trace it with the tablet (I did this and my drawing came out HUGE, lol); sketch from scratch on the tablet (this is VERY hard for me at this point).

I would appreciate any suggestions at this point. I'm tired of being stuck at this point. If anyone wants, I will scan the doodle in and post/link it here tomorrow after classes.

TIA!
