Like a drunkard.”
Hiro smiled weakly at his fuming band mate.
“Oh, it isn’t that bad.”
“You guys—” Shuichi managed to wheeze amid mirthful gasps for air, “—look like—” his voice caught in an attack of snickering, “—penguins!” And again, he burst into loud and gleeful laughter.
Suguru bristled.
“Of all the inane, idiotic, childish—”
Hiro patted him on the shoulder.
“Calm down. Look at how happy he is.”
Suguru frowned, muttered, “I don’t have to look, I can practically feel it.”
There seemed to be a glow, a warmth that emanated from him—his grin and laughter and obvious happiness could have created literal sparkles. He nudged Eiri—who’d joined him after paying the shop clerk—to share his observation of how his friends resemble arctic fowl, and received a tolerant eye roll and smack to the head in response. Even this didn’t faze him, and he merely hugged at his beau’s arm and giggled.
Hiro’s voice was full of fondness as he spoke quietly to Suguru, “He’s been waiting for this for a long time. Let’s allow him these moments, shall we?”
Suguru sighed in resignation.
“Well, I suppose. We are the best men for the job, aren’t we?”
Hiro smirked and bumped shoulders with him.
“Literally.”
Suguru let himself laugh—a soft sound not used very often—and he felt himself glow.
