So, with 1800+ comments and the fun not seeming to slow down too much, I've gotten reports that the post is getting hard to navigate. I wanted to give you some tips and also a guide to the threads so you can hopefully avoid loading the entire post if nothing else works.

First, adding ?format=light after the .html part of the URL will strip the page down to its bare basics. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to stick after you leave a comment, but for viewing the entire post at once, it may be a help.

Second, I highly recommend using a tabbed browser. The new IE 7 has tabs, and I use Firefox 2.0 myself (which also has the added benefit of working with the LJLogin extension which makes it much easier to switch between names). I've got two browser windows open, one with my normal email/LJ/web stuff, and one with just tabs of the threads I'm active in. Firefox also will restore all tabs/windows if it crashes (as I found out last night).

But if those still don't work or aren't an option, below is a list of the main threads, in chronological order, referencing the charcter who started the thread. There may be (and probably are) multiple subthreads under there. If I can, I'll make a list of those later today. Also, if anyone else has the time to make the list, send it my way and I'll add it!

ETA 4/6/07: I have updated the list to include the subthreads! You folks are a chatty bunch... :D

An April Fool to Remember

Seems like Loki has targeted us as his victims for this year's April Fool trick, and the boundry between universes has melted away! We discover how life may have been if things had been different; we see other versions of ourselves; we meet people we never thought we'd actually get to chat with ;)

communiquills and hex_files are all mixed together! Have at it!

(If you haven't divulged your secret identities, I encourage you to pop over to this post and do so; you can also ask any questions about how this works there.)

ETA: If anyone wants to create a special thread for particular groups of people to congregate in (teaching staff, Death Eaters, Hufflepuffs, etc.), feel free to do so! Start a new thread and put a title in the subject line so it sticks out (replies in the thread may delete the subject). And if you email me or IM me with the link, I'll add it up in the post here so people can find it quickly :)

ETA 2: With the thread getting so huge, I have made a post of tips and tools for easier reading, along with a list of (for now) the main parent threads that have been posted so far.

Some disclaimers: This is a public post, meaning that anyone can come in and read it.

Readers should be aware that threads may include explicitly sexual or violent actions/imagery, and should proceed accordingly.

Players are asked to play all sexually-active characters at a minimum age of 15; if Animagi will be featured, please warn for that in advance (a note in the comment's subject line will suffice).

This is meant to be completely cracky, but while there is very little restriction of content in general, please remember that due to the nature of the mixer, some players may find themselves uncomfortable when faced with a different version of their character or their character's loved ones. Pre-Mixer Post: Wait, Who Are You?!

This post has a double purpose. First, a reminder about the communiquills/hex_files mixer that will be hosted here starting Sunday (or late Saturday night, depending on where you live, hehe). Anyone who is part of either group is welcome to come and play with any and all of their various personalities :D

And in that vein, since there are people who are part of one group but not the other, and therefore won't realise that a CQ character is the same player as an HF character they know and adore, I wanted to give you guys a place to put down that info. This isn't a commitment or anything, so if you think there's even the slightest chance you might pop in, please drop a comment in here.

Also, if you have any questions about how this is going to work, feel free to ask here as well. :)

That's right -- we're having a bit of a mixer over here for both communiquills and hex_files characters! If you have a character (or several characters) in either RPG, you are welcome to bring them along. If you have characters in both, well then that's just more fun for everyone!

This will have no redeeming value. This is unadulterated crack. This is for characters of the same name to eye each other up and wonder how things could have been. Or for very interesting pairings. Whatever you like ;D

So stop by starting April 1 to see the post, and we'll just let it go until you all tire yourselves out!

George,

Can't believe its been a month since you two quit school. I'm sure the fan mail is pouring in, but in case you haven't heard - the swamp is still there and Filtch is getting tetchier by the hour. I know a group of Third Years are doing laps across the Entrance Hall then up through the second floor and down again, just so Filtch has to ferry them back across. Picture of innocence in the face of his apocoleptic rage.

Your order forms are all over the castle now too. As are your products. Can't walk past the Infirmary without slipping in pools of vomit, blood or other disgustingness. Pomfrey refuses to deal with anyone display Snackbox Symptoms. Tough luck for the Slytherin beater Goyle who really did have a broken nose. Your Ron seemed particularly pleased about that one.

Its quieter in the common room without you two here. Hermione says its a relief, she might actually pass her OWLS now. The second years don't know who to idolise. You left behind a definitavely bereaved fan group.

Peeves has ceased his campaign of terror against students and staff; no student has had their shoelaces tied in knots at breakfast for weeks. I hear Umbridge isn't sleeping well though. Repetitive farting noises all night from her cupboard. I think Peeves is enjoying being applauded by students. Hope it doesn't go to his head.

Kirke and Sloper aren't a patch on you two. I don't know what I'm going to do. Final match against Ravenclaw on Saturday. We don't have a chance of wining. Ginny is a crack Seeker though. Not as good as Harry. God George I don't know what i'm doing trying to lead this team to victory. Its a fluke we've gotten here. Don't know how I'm going to fly without you and George to cheer us on, even from the stands. I am waking up in the middle of the night falling out of bed because I've been practicing turns in my sleep. Tell Fred to pick out his blackest clothes, he'll need them for the funeral after they scrape me off the ground when we lose.

Fred. George, I hope he's ok. I mean, I knew this would be hard. I know you probably don't want to hear it. I don't know who else to ask though. You are part of him, you must know how he feels. I don't want to know. I just want to know he's ok and that some one is looking out for him. I'm an idiot to not realise that you two must have been considering this all year. The signs were there. I just didn't want to lose him. I hope I don't. Can you tell him that?

I'll see you in Summer Hols. Remember you two promised I could stay at your new place.

Dear Mum and Dad,

Harry and Ron have become even more sports obsessed over the last week. The House team captain, Oliver Wood, has been making Harry practice just about every minute, it seems. He almost fell asleep in Astronomy on Wednesday night, Professor Sinistra was very unimpressed. I've been reading over their essays before they submit them, but nothing more than that.

The first game is this morning. We are playing Slytherin, so it's going to be rough. I borrowed Qudditch Through the Ages from the library for Harry. He plays Seeker, which is the riskiest position. The Seeker gets fouled more than any other player. There are 700 fouls specific fouls in Qudditch, but you have to be a registered umpire to see the list. The Ministry is worried that players might get ideas. I'm not sure whether Madam Hooch is a registered umpire. She probably is, but the school also has its own Quidditch related rules. For example, students are only allowed to twice the hight of the stand, and the game doesn't go later than tea time.

I read about the Qudditch pitch in Hogwarts, A History. It was the one thing Slytherin and Gryffindor agreed on; that it should be regulation size. Ravenclaw was worried that it would block the greenhouses, but Hufflepuff moved them so there was enough space. The stands are open to the public during games. People rarely come, but a few people from Hogsmeade come to watch the grand final at the end of the year.

Nothing strange has happened since the troll. I told you that that was unusual. I'm sure the dog can't get out. Professor Snape was limping, though. He confiscated the Quidditch book while we were in the courtyard, yesterday. It was very cold and I had conjured a fire in a jar. It is the best charm I have ever discovered! The fire is blue, very pretty. It flows where you want it, like runny honey. Anyway, Snape was limping, and what Harry went to get his book back from Snape in the staff room, Snape was having his leg bandaged. He'd been attacked by the three headed dog. He must have gone to the corridor.

Harry and Ron are convinced that Snape is evil. They are being very melodramatic about it all. Snape is obviously trustworthy, or Dumbledore would not have hired him. I have to go, Harry will be getting up soon and I want to make sure he eats some breakfast.

We made a banner for him for his first game. It was Ron's idea. ~~He is very~~ It says "Potter for President" (that was Seamus's idea). Dean Thomas, who is from London and follows West Ham, drew a very realistic picture of a lion on it. We did colour charms in the first few weeks, but I got to use this very nice variation to make it flash different colours.

I can bring you something charmed like for Christmas.

My name is James Potter and I'm the soon-to-be boyfriend of your sister. This is a widely acknowledged fact. Acknowledged by pretty much everyone, to be honest, apart from Lily. This is a bit of a pain, and so I thought I'd write to you and get you on the 'Make Lily See Sense' team! No badges for the team, I'm afraid, or uniforms either. What's in this for you, you might be thinking, if there are no badges of uniforms. Good question, Pet (I can call you Pet, can't I? I promise you won't have to call me Master, unless you find the idea irresistible, of course! I wouldn't stop you if you had your heart set on it!) and one I'm glad you asked.

I have three best mates. I can ~~pimp out~~ arrange an intimate little soiree for you and the bloke of your choice. Just as soon as Lily's agreed to a date with me.

You'd probably fancy Sirius. Most girls do. Tall, dark, handsome. Usual routine. But also very clever and rich too. Impeccable pedigree, if you're interested. Good teeth and well-brushed hair as well. I'd recommend Sirius simply because all your friends would be jealous. However, he is high maintenance and a bit destructive. You might prefer Remus. Remus is a wonderful bloke. Quite good-looking, good brain and a good sense of humour.

Remus is probably more serious relationship material than Sirius, I think. Certainly not as destructive, unless you get him at the wrong time of the month. His month, not yours. I wouldn't dream of suggesting you get to be a temperamental bitch when you're having your period! ~~Except I kind of just did.~~ Joking! Only drawback with Remus is that he'd need some time to himself a few days a month. You could handle that though, couldn't you? You'd want alone time anyway wouldn't you? To paint your nails and watch weepy movies on television and do girly stuff like that. You'd need time alone because, as far as I know, Remus doesn't paint his nails or watch chick-flicks.

Last but not least is Peter. I really think you could be happy with Peter. He's, alright, not as good-looking as Sirius or Remus, but I'm sure you're not as shallow and superficial as Lily makes out. Joking, again! She hasn't said anything of the kind. At least not where I've heard it. She might constantly be bitching about you for all I know, but she hasn't said anything horrid about you to me. Promise! Peter's intelligent, a good laugh and an all round good bloke. You can depend on Peter.

So, put in a few good words about me with your sister, and I'll take your order. Come on, Petunia, this is too good a deal for you to pass up!

I don't believe we've met. If we have, I was far too young to pay proper attention. I'm sure you know who I am however, and I'm also sure you know the situation in which I find myself. It seems, and I do not say this lightly – though I say a great many things lightly and with a frequent disregard for the truth - that I may soon be dead. It is not certain and it is not something I'm looking forward to ~~because my Daddy would be distraught without me~~. But I wouldn't be surprised to be dead within the month. If not sooner.

I'm not scared, you understand. Not at all. But, it does feel rather like going to a party where one doesn't know any of the other guests, which I'm sure you'll realise is a thoroughly unwelcome prospect and one I've never had to consider before as I have lots of friends. Unfortunately none of my dearest friends are dead ~~and I've begun to wonder whether~~ so I must prevail upon you to collect me on the Other side and show me how to go about being dead in the most enjoyable manner.

Mummy said Aurors killed you. I wonder about that. You might be able to tell me the truth soon! ~~I don't want to die.~~ Is it cold to be dead? I don't like the cold. Does one catch a chill when one is dead? Should I dress warmly? I did mean that as a joke, but I think I'd welcome an answer on that one. Of course you can't answer me. You can't answer any of my questions until I'm dead ~~and I don't want to die~~ so it's rather pointless me asking.

This is all rather pointless but, perhaps I wasn't speaking entirely truthfully earlier when I said I wasn't afraid. I did say I tend to side-step the truth when it suits me, which you must acknowledge was good of me to do so. I am a little scared, cousin Regulus. So if you could see your way to being a friendly face when I first open my eyes on being dead, I should appreciate it ever so much.

Yes, I did get to sleep after I owled. Painted for a little bit. You can tell Mum that.

I went out to paint night before last after I sent that letter. The castle was very quiet and I didn't get caught by anyone. But there was a dog inside. A big black one. It looked like a Grim. But Grim's are spectral, aren't they? I touched this one. Petted it even. It was very friendly. Guess it must be one of Hagrid's dogs. Grims aren't ever corporeal are they? ~~Or very sweet?~~

Supposed to be going to the Great Hall again soon. The professors all look really upset, but something's wrong with McGonagall, I think. She missed breakfast and lunch and at dinner she kept shifting in her chair. There were marks on her neck too. I think she was attacked by something. Wonder if the Headmaster will tell us what happened to her? Maybe to do with the rumors about You Know Who?

Dear Caroline,

Hello, again! It's been a little while since I've had a chance to write to you. School has been keeping me really busy this term. You wouldn't think people would make such a fuss about OWLs O-Levels in October when they aren't till the end of the year.

This past weekend we had a bit of a break, though. It was the first time this year that we got to head to Hogsmeade the town close by my school. Some of my friends were off on a date, so I had time on my hands to walk around through the stores. I just happened to wander into Gladrags Wizardwear a clothing store. And while I was looking around the store, guess what I just happened to see?! Well, you can probably guess, since they're here in this letter -- I saw these green hair ribbons! They aren't exactly like the ones you had before, but I think they'd look pretty in your hair I thought you might like them. Plus, I wanted to make it up to you, since it's probably my fault that they were missing in the first place. I really hope you like them.

Well, I should get back to my homework, before I'm buried by it.

My dear little Eddie,

I hope that you are well and enjoying yourself in the countryside. Perhaps you could write me a letter about the things that you have been doing and the friends that you have made. Does the family you are staying with have children of their own?

School is almost exactly the same in second year as it was in first year, except that now there are students who are younger than I am. My classes are only a little more advanced than last year. I think you will like Professor Herbert very much when you come here. His favourite food is also peas. He says it is because they are green like our House colour, but beans are also green and he doesn’t like them.

Sports started last week. We were beaten by Gryffindor. Minerva plays for their team and she is very good. She is much better than our Keeper, but he’s a seventh year, so he won’t be playing next year and maybe we can win. Do you think you will want to ~~fly~~ play?

It is beginning to get cold here. I hope that where you are is not so cold. Although snow fights are fun, it is very easy to get sick. And it is difficult to sleep when it is cold. I find it very annoying walking between classes a few days after the first snow, when it is all grimy and slipery.

Have you received a letter from Father? I think he is very busy with his work, especially because you are not there to play with him.

MOD POST: The State of Things

Well folks. We last sat down on our carpet squares in October to talk about finding ways to get more activity on this here community. We had decided to create a spin-off community. However, as you can see, I never got around to making that comm.

The short end of the stick is that after almost 21 months, I feel that my interest and drive in maintaining this community has waned to the point where my staying in charge is a hinderance rather than a benefit. This leaves me with an important and fairly urgent decision to make about the future of the community.

One of the first and most obvious options was to pass this community to someone else to run. However, the severe lack of activity on this comm (it's been a month since a letter was posted!) suggests to me that to get this comm active again would require huge actions, most likely either starting everyone fresh again, or changing the rules to allow more kinds of posts on this comm. I believe that such actions would be better suited to starting a new kind of game completely; as I hope would be made obvious by our affiliation with hex_files, I have no problem with anyone starting CQ-inspired RPGs if you're up for the challenge. :)

My other option, then, is to close the community. But it's a hard decision to make, because I know I'm not the only person here who is very attached to their character(s). Active in posting or not, for those of us who have been around since the start in the summer of 2005 especially, these characters have complete personalities, and could be considered as close as siblings (or lovers, maybe? *g*) for some of us.

So this is what I have decided. January 31 will be the last day to post letters per the rules to be considered CQ canon. After that, instead of stopping all posting and simply waving goodbye forever, I will be leaving posting open for all current members, and you will be welcome to come back here to RP however you like, whenever you like. There would be no guidelines about what you can post; think of it like comment crack for the rest of your life, without the burden of having to write those pesky letters beforehand.

I think this is a win-win situation, and I hope you all will agree.

Comments are open, but I would like to make a couple things clear:

-- This was my decision, 100%. If you want to tear me a new one for this decision -- or shower me with praise -- it may be more prudent to email me directly than to leave a comment.

-- I have a few details left to sort out that I will be running by the members for input this coming weekend. This includes figuring out exactly how the canon will be ended in a blaze of glory, as well as fiddly bits about how we'd work the post-canon RPing.

Back in school, for the last time. I'm really, really looking forward to being out of here and working, having a life of my own.

Thanks for your help with the mess over Christmas. Mum has been good to her word and hasn't told Dad anything. I've been pretty good, too. I haven't contacted G. at all. He hasn't called me either. I think he was glad he didn't have to face Dad.

I thought he would be upset, but he was just fine. He didn't even fight or try to convince me not to do it. He just said that if that was what I wanted, it was all right. He really didn't care at all, so I guess I did the right thing, yeah?

You remember how we used to write to each other all the time? He hasn't written me since that day. Which is for the best – this way Dad won't suspect a thing. Not that there's anything for him to suspect, of course. Never was. G. and I were only horsing around. But I don't have to tell you that – you know it.

Mum only lectured me once during the holidays – she told me she still felt bad about not telling Dad about G. and me, that she hated lying to Dad and all that. I told her there was nothing to tell Dad; I repeated the whole conversation again, that G. and I were only friends and I would not talk to him ever again.

Dad asked me where G. was – I guess he got used to having G. around – and I told him he was probably spending the holidays with his brother and his sister's family. I wonder where he is and if he's dating that woman again. She was not very nice, all over him all the time. Didn't even let him breathe.

Anyway, this girl in my House came back from Christmas break looking much better than last year. I think I'll ask her out. I told my Mum only girls from now on, right?
