Chapter Five

BERJAYA

“Oh!!! It’s scary out here.  How did you manage, Hobbie?”

BERJAYA

“I hid a lot.  Then, gradually over time, I started to make friends.”

“Friends!!!”

“Yeah,

BERJAYA

Deer are good friends.

BERJAYA

Raccoons are hilarious and know how the whole farm works.

BERJAYA

Skunk is nice, but a bit hard to be around. I learned the hard way about Skunk.

BERJAYA

Then there is porcupine—that one has a short, short fuse and can reach out and swat you in a flash.

BERJAYA

Lots of friends, TLC, that’s how you make it.”

BERJAYA

Hobbs looked at me and started walking down the point of the Rocky Hill.

BERJAYA

Down the road, we just walked up.

It’s Summer Time —- Wednesday, July 1, 2026

BERJAYA

It’s Summer Time, and the water is S!H!O!R!T!!!!!

They have now reduced the 10 tubes of water (we used to get 40) in half again.  So now we have 5 tubes of water.

That’s it, Babe!  No more.

Sigh!

Thirty Days Hath June — Tuesday, June 30, 2026

BERJAYA

Remember this?  The Lone Porcupine quill that stabbed me — Yep, that one.

BERJAYA

It became infected.  Then caused me to head to the ER.  The infection moved to both feet until I couldn’t even walk.

BERJAYA

What a mess!  But, gradually, with antibiotics and pain meds, I can walk again, and the swelling has started to go down.

Sish!

Whoever would get stabbed by a lone quill?  What a mess.

The Fires All Around Us are Sad and Terrible—Monday, June 29, 2026

BERJAYA

We are having lots of smoke from all the fires in Utah, on the Navajo Nation, and even close by.

BERJAYA

It’s all so sad.

Hot! Windy! Hot!  Sad.

Chapter Four

BERJAYA

Meanwhile —-

“Hey, Hobbs!  Do you know where we are?”  TLC sat down panting.  “Hobbs!  Stop!  It feels like we are lost.”

Hobbie stopped, turned around, and looked at TLC.  “We are not lost.  We just ran around Coyote Hill.  Right at this moment, we are sitting on the trail to the Rocky Point.

BERJAYA At the Rocky Point, we will be able to see all the way around us.

BERJAYA

We will be able to see the Deep Dark Forest, the Cattail patch, over onto our Ranching Neighbors’ Place,

BERJAYA

We can look back and see Coyote Hill, then if we turn completely around, we can see the farm and the start of the little field

BERJAYA

where the deer like to hang out.”

BERJAYA

Hobbs put his paw up and swung himself around, pointing out each and everything.

BERJAYA

“It is the Rocky Point where we can see if there really are any wild dogs living on the farm.

BERJAYA

It’s the Rocky Point where we can see where ALL the wild creatures live.”

BERJAYA

Hobbs came and sat down beside me.

BERJAYA

“Well, it’s starting to get late.  The Sun is going to bed, and those wild creatures will start coming out.  Being outside at night at the farmhouse is one thing; being out here right along with the wild ones is a whole other thing! TLC announced.

“Tell me about it,” Hobbs sadly said. “I was dumped out after years of living inside, never going outside.  I had to figure things out pretty fast.”

TLC reached over and put a paw on Hobb’s paw. “Well, New Fur brother—You will just have to keep Boo Berry and me safe!”

“BOO BERRY!!!” TLC and Hobbs yelled together! “WHERE ARE YOU BOO BERRY!!!”

On a Very Hot and Windless Day —- Thursday, June 25, 2026

BERJAYAI sat watching the birds flying overhead

BERJAYA

When seemingly out of nowhere—-FIGHT

BERJAYA

Goodness! It lasted for several minutes — at least three.  Very intense and actually very loud—shattering the stillness

Amazing to see, hear—and photograph.  (for me, anyway)

Unfolding —- Wednesday, June 24, 2026

BERJAYA

Summer has completely arrived

BERJAYA

Bringing with it the bright promise of rich days of growth

BERJAYA

The air full of drama,

BERJAYA

Each day, a bright promise

BERJAYA

Filling my heart, my mind, my soul with the music of little bird lives.

BERJAYA

Even though the work starts early and ends late, late, late

BERJAYA

The joy of summer entangles deeply in my soul.

(We’ve been close to, or right around 100* for heat.  Still, I must confess, I love Summer.)

While Out Working on the Ditch Bank —- Tuesday, June 23, 2026

BERJAYA

I had a Porcupine quill get my ankle

BERJAYA

It went in a wee way.

But when I reached down to pull it out

BERJAYA

I found a heart!

BERJAYA

So, I guess, I had to be stabbed to see the heart!!!  🙂

What an unusual thing to have happen.
