Wholanta, formerly known as Timegate, is the Doctor Who'verse and
British media con in Atlanta, GA, USA, May 5-7, 2017. Please note the
date change, as Timegate used to take over Memorial Day weekend. For

Just to let everyone know, as director of the costume track, I'm still
working on the schedule, and will be putting out a regular call for
panellists ASAP.

However, I have two panels that I need to find panellists for right
away.

First off is the Sixth Doctor panel. We have Colin Baker attending, so I
feel sure that some Six fans will be present, and in costume. So I need
a couple of Sixth Doctor costumers!

Secondly on tap is the Tyler family panel. This is in honour of Camille
Coduri aka Jackie Tyler, Rose's mum, one of the con's new actor guests.
I'm looking for at least one Jackie, a couple of Roses, and if there's a
Pete Tyler and a Mickey Smith, I'll be happy to have one each. :)

If you're attending Wholanta and would like to be on either of these
panels, please reply or PM right away. :) Schedules need to be firmed up
by March 1st on my end, so that's why I'm sending out this early
request. :) Thanks in advance!

TimeGate 2014, the Doctor Who (& more) annual convention, is taking place in Atlanta, GA, USA, over the Memorial Day weekend, May 23rd-25th. Please check out the site for a list of guests, events, hotel and travel info, memberships, and more, here: http://timegatecon.org/

If you find yourself feeling a little overwhelmed by the throngs of people at the big cons like SDCC and Dragoncon, please consider attending TimeGate. :) However, just because the con is smallish, doesn't mean that there isn't plenty to do! We have seven tracks of programming! Also: major events, with the con's guests, in the Main Ballroom, several rooms for gaming, a wonderful consuite, photo opps and autographs with the guests, an even larger dealers' room this year, fan tables, performances (musical and theatrical), a charity cabaret, a masquerade, and more.

One of the tracks, or portals as we call them at TimeGate, is the Wardrobe Portal, which is mostly about costuming/cosplaying in the Who'verse. The DW track is the Gallifrey Portal, which has the major guest events in the Main Ballroom, in addition to the fan panels in the track room.

Want to march in the D*C parade on Saturday morning, and/or just hang out with other Doctor Who/Torchwood/Sarah Jane Adventures costumers and cosplayers? I've got the info for you right here, under the cut. :)

First off, you need to go here and join the Prydon Academy board:

(The PA is a group of DW/TW/SJA costumers who got started at Dragoncon a few years ago, and has now grown to be a world-wide group. It's run by Andy, our 7th Doctor.)

You need to sign up for a login and password. As soon as you get the email with the board approval (it happens automatically), you can sign onto the board. :)

Then, look for the Dragoncon subforum. Post in the 2010 Parade sign up thread, so that Andy will know that you want to be in the parade, so he can get a parade ribbons for you. (And just in case you don't happen to know, you must wear your D*C badge for the parade as well, in addition to the parade ribbons. It's a D*C requirement.)

After the parade, the group will have a photoshoot. Location TBA. The 2010 Photoshoot thread will tell you where and when. :)

We also get together for dinner on Saturday night. :) There's a dinner signup thread as well. If you want to attend the dinner, again let Andy know by posting in the 2010 Dinner Signup thread, since he needs to be able to inform the restaurant how many people will be in our group.

Then there's the Brittrack, which has many DW and TW panels. There will be a costuming panel for the Brittrack again, but since the schedule isn't up yet, we don't know when it will be taking place yet.

TimeGate '10 costuming events--a quick review

Quick TimeGate report for costuming events only, under the cut.

Even though the con lost Paul Kasey at the last minute (his grandfather passed away and the services were held over the weekend--our thoughts are with him and his family during this tragic time), TG was still well-attended, with popular panels filling up the rooms quickly.

One of the most popular panels was my costume panel. :) If you were one of the unlucky ones who got turned away, rest assured that we are working on things to be better for next TG! For those of you who attended, I hope the panelists gave some great info.

We had two seamstresses, both of whom attended in stunning Clockwork Droid outfits (complete with masks), a long-time costume contest and masquerade organizer, and myself. :) The seamstresses presented a lot of good info on sewing, patterns, wigs, accessories, and the like. The costume contest helper (with close to a decade and a half of experience) had a great list of how to present oneself and one's costume to best advantage at a costume contest or during a masquerade. I spoke about putting outfits together for the modern Doctors and Companions, bringing a few new pieces to illustrate my part of the panel, and also gave out a one-page handout that listed the major costuming and crafting comms here on LJ, the Prydon Academy's info, and several others sites that I've found to be of help. (I'll post it when time permits, as RL is crazy at the moment.)

After a few Q&As, we moved to the Show'n'Tell portion of the panel, an audience fave. :) This time we asked for volunteers, although there were some stunning costumes that I just had to call on the person wearing them. Crowd faves were the 11th Doctor and the 5th Doctor, both tailored to perfection. Dominic Glynn found all the costumers to be most wonderful, but was totally impressed by the 11 Doctor, stating that the costumer even had Matt's walk and gestures down pat (if one is cosplaying and just not costuming, these are important points to include in one's cosplay). Another very impressive costumer was wearing the Mercy Hartigan red dress from The Next Doctor. Again, she not only had a great dress, she had Mercy's gestures and facial expressions to the max, and used her red parasol to great advantage.

We would like to thank everyone who attended the costuming panel, especially those who attended in costume, and also those who were happy to show and tell about their costume. :)

Later, on Saturday evening, we had a huge group of DW costumers to hit the ballroom stage for the masquerade. Everyone showed off their costumes to lovely advantage. At the end, all the participants took to the stage for a major photo op, many of them in character.

Again, I hope everyone who attended TimeGate '10 had a great time, and I suggest that everyone be on the look-out for major guest announcements for next year any day now. :) And I hope I'll see many of the TG costumers at Dragoncon! :)

Hello! I've definitely fallen in love with the Classic Doctors and I'm glad to find a comm that concentrates on them. Here's a couple of short fics I wrote when I first tumbled into the Who fandom. Enjoy!

Title: Variations on a Theme
Starring: Jo Grant and Doctors 3, 4 and 6
Rating: All Ages
Genre: Het, hurt/comfort, humor
Plot: What is a naturally chilly space alien to do when a blast from his past comes down with heat exhaustion? Jo and the Sixth Doctor find out. (Not like that. Well, maybe a teeny bit like that. Note the rating.)
Author's Notes: Many thanks go out to rude_not_ginger, philosophercat and merlinsseer for their beta skills. Also, I wrote this before learning that Jo becomes aware of the concept of multiple Doctors in 'The Three Doctors.' Oooops. Well, this is how she finds out in the Singe-verse!

Title: Long Leggity Beasty
Starring: Sarah Jane and the 4th Doctor
Rating: Teen
Genre: Het, humor, horror
Plot: A Halloween story! This is set the October after the Doctor abruptly leaves Sarah Jane behind in Aberdeen. His return leaves her feeling somewhat drained. (Yes, vampire AU. After 'Vampires of Venice' I thought it'd be timely.)
Author's Notes: The 'Spooky' poem is by Bobbi Katz. 'Antigonish' (aka The Man Who Wasn't There) is by Hughes Mearns. The movie Sarah Jane quotes is 1951's 'The Thing.' The other verses are by unknown authors.

TimeGate is the annual Doctor Who (and Stargate and more!) convention in Atlanta, GA, USA. This year it's happening over the Memorial Day weekend again, May 28th through May 30th. Among the Doctor Who guests are Paul Kasey, who has portrayed many monsters on Doctor Who, Torchwood, and The Sarah Jane Adventures, including Ood Sigma; and Dominic Glynn, who composed music for Doctor Who during the Sixth and Seventh Doctors' eras. Also appearing is Louis Robinson, who worked on many BBC TV programs, including Doctor Who in the Third Doctor's era.

Also, TimeGate is putting on a Doctor Who Trivia Night on May 6th in Decatur (right next-door to Atlanta).

So come to The Marlay pub in Decatur and enjoy an evening of Doctor Who trivia! The questions will be focused on Doctor Who, and some of them will be about references to Doctor Who in other shows. There will be prizes for the top three teams/individuals. Also, special drinks are planned for the evening, like the TARDIStini. The event is from 7-9 pm on Thursday, May 6, 2010. Over a dozen never before published colour photos from the filming of the 1967 Doctor Who story The Abominable Snowmen have been discovered, and will be featured in the forthcoming limited edition version of Deborah Watling's autobiography 'Daddy's Girl' from Fantom Publishing.....

Fantom are the same folks who put out Mary Tamm's autobio.

TimeGate 2010 update

TimeGate is the Atlanta, GA, USA Doctor Who, Stargate, and more convention, that takes place every year over the Memorial Day holiday weekend. This year that's May 28-30, 2010 at the Holiday Inn Select Atlanta Perimeter, close to the MARTA station at Perimeter Mall. For those flying in, there's a direct MARTA train to this stop. For those driving, the hotel is directly off I-285 (the north side).

Two of the Doctor Who guests are Andrew Cartmel and Dominic Glynn.

Things have been rapidly coming together for TimeGate this year. The con is back in the same conveniently-located hotel and has expanded to even more space -- which means more events!

Special events will once again include a cabaret in which the Guests perform to help raise money for charity. There will be skits, songs, comedy, and probably a little drama to entertain attendees.

Five of the Guests are scheduled to give live commentaries about episodes that they have appeared in or have special knowledge of, including Carmen Argenziano (Stargate SG1) and Paul Kasey (Doctor Who, Torchwood). The exact episodes are still in the works, but one that is definite is script editor Andrew Cartmel and composer Dominic Glynn discussing the making of the final Classic Doctor Who story Survival.

There are two special screenings planned. The first is Space 2099, a re-mastering of the original Gerry Anderson SF series. The second screening is Apollo, a 40 minute short film which was a featured selection in the Athens (Greece) International Science Fiction Film Festival. There will be a short introduction plus a question and answer session afterwards with executive producer Diana Dru Botsford.

There will be plenty of returning favorites, like the TimeGate Team Trivia Competition, the Masquerade, Stargate Jeopardy! and live music, plus new events like the $25,000 Pyramid of Mars!

We would like to thank everyone who attended the Brittrack costume panel at Dragoncon this year. :) The Valdosta room was full, even though Terry Gilliam was scheduled opposite us. And thanks to everyone who came in costume, although we couldn't get to everyone for Show'n'Tell. Myself, the panel moderator, and Andy, head of the Prydon Academy (the DW costume parade group) are talking about a double panel, where we will spend half the time on info and Q&A, and the other half on a Fashion Show (not a Costume Contest). Brittrack costume panel at Dragoncon 09

The British SF Media track at Dragoncon (or Brittrack, as it's nicknamed) will be hosting a panel for any and all costumers of British SF & fantasy media, whether it's Doctor Who, UFO, Blake's Seven, Robin Hood, Torchwood, The Tomorrow People, The Sarah Jane Adventures, or what have you. :)

Please attend in costume or bring a costume for presentation or just attend to pick up tips and tricks. We'll be mostly discussing costuming, but we also have an expert on the panel who has knitted many Fourth Doctor scarves. If you have knitted and/or are knitting a Fourth Doctor scarf or a Boomtown!Rose scarf, bring it along. :)

If you can attend the panel, just let us know by replying here, esp. if you are wearing or presenting a costume, let us know about the costume as well. :)

At the moment, and hopefully this will not change, the costume panel will be at 4 PM, Saturday, Sept. 5th, 2009, in the usual Brittrack place, the Valdosta Room, at the Sheraton Hotel.

Oh hello. So what have YOU done for the cause of fandom research today?

Fellow Whofen, specificially but not only of the Classic Fen variety, are hereby cordially invited to poke about lifeonravolox: the research blog for my M.A thesis, on the subject of fans who have discovered the classic series following the 2005 revival. I've just gone and put up an introducory post, along with a brief survey, right here, and need some assistance getting this thing going. Any such assistance will be very welcome, and you might even find it an interesting piece of research.

Dragoncon's Brittrack has new guests & schedule changes

There have been many changes made to the Brittrack schedule at Dragoncon in the past few days. :)

Just yesterday, Gareth David Lloyd confirmed that he is returning to Dragoncon! We have a few Torchwood panels already, and the track will be working with GDL on how best to schedule him.

Eric Roberts and his wife Eliza Roberts will be hosting a panel on Friday on how the 8th Doctor TV-movie influenced New!Who.

Terry Gilliam, the director and Monty Python animator will be at the con on Friday and Saturday only. (Yes, he has nothing to do with DW, but imagine if he directed a Doctor Who film?!)

And there may be more guest announcements to go with the great slate of guests already. Stay tuned by checking the Brittrack site for the schedule:

The Atlanta GA Doctor Who club, the Atlanta Gallifreyans, has its' next meeting this Sunday, June 21st, starting at 2 PM and going until 8 PM. We'll be meeting, as usual, at the Doraville Civic Center. For directions, see the website:
