Living traditionally in a modern world

@chasing-salt-and-light

child of God | wife | lover of coffee and candles | dreaming of homemaking, homesteading, and mothering
Introductions

Hello! I'm Kate, 25 years old. I've been married to my darling for 2 years and it's been the best time of my life. I currently work full time, with dreams of someday being a homemaker, mother, and maybe homesteader. I'm a Christian woman, wanting to live my traditional values in a modern world. A few things I enjoy:

  • Baking
  • Coffee
  • Candles
  • Reading
  • Gardening
  • Going for walks
  • Embroidery
  • Puzzles

A few things I'd like to someday do/learn:

  • Knitting/crocheting
  • Quilting
  • Raising chickens

I'd love for you to say hi and tag other blogs I should follow!

a woman with a tongue so gentle it heals with every word spoken.

a woman with a love so fierce that leaves no night cold.

a woman with a heart so soft it cuts through stone.

The submission of women in a non-Christian marriage is dangerous and misogynistic. In a biblical marriage there is no place for violence, disrespect, humiliation, ...

Just read the Bible and you will see how the role of the husband and wife complement each other in a beautiful way.

I hate how much traditionally feminine skills are demonized.

For example, the other day I saw an article about a father who changed the art in books about Disney princesses so they weren’t “sexist”. One of the images was of Ariel decorating a cake which he changed to her eating a slice of pizza. Because I guess eating pizza is a more impressive than a skill that takes people years and years to master.

The only reason you would view a woman decorating a cake as demeaning is because you view feminine skills as lesser than.

Thinking about when I was younger, in a lot of the tween to teen movies I watched: usually the cool girl is the tomboy, and the feminine girl is portrayed as prissy and bratty. And don’t get me wrong, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with a girl being a tomboy. I just don’t think young girls really get a good media role model of strong femininity.

Based off my observations, if a girl wants to be respected she can’t just enjoy being a woman and doing feminine things, she has to be a “badass” as well. I don’t want to be a badass, I don’t want to be CEO of a company: I want to bake cookies and raise babies and garden and raise animals and look pretty for my husband.

All those things take skills and effort and some take a lifetime of mastery so why can’t they be respected as such?

a small cottage by the sea. a garden full of flowers and vegetables and fruit trees. a wooden fence. a chicken coop out back. a blue china porcelain tea set. sage green walls. the kettle whistling on the stovetop. vintage white dresses drying on a clothesline. homemade quilts on the couch. antique vases and paintings for decor. piles of classical books in the living room. candles illuminating the rooms at night. little children running around the kitchen. laughter and music filling the house. cookies baking in the oven. i want it all ♡

Cheap/Free Seeds & Plants

If you go to any given store, you’ll probably have to spend ~$3 (USD) per packet of seed, that adds up quickly if you have big plans for growing your own food.  Here are a few ideas for how to get cheap/free plants for your upcoming garden.

The Free Seed Project - www.robgreenfield.org/freeseedproject/ USA ONLY. If you can’t afford seeds, are growing food for others, and/or a first-time gardener you can sign up to get seeds through the free seed project.  In 2020 they were able to send out seed packets to 5,000 families/groups and this year they are hoping to do 10,000.  Their seed packets contain ~12 different kinds of seeds including carrots, kale, and herbs.  This is completely free, no postage charges.

Free Heirloom Seeds - www.freeheirloomseeds.org They have sent seeds internationally before, contact them for details.  Free Heirloom Seeds will send 4 free packets of seeds per year to any household that signs up.  There are many many varieties to choose from.  They ask for donations ($1.25 (cheaper than SASE)) to cover shipping, but will send you seeds anyway if you can’t afford that. If you’re looking to buy seeds for an entire garden, they suggest a $10 donation to cover shipping for 15 packets of seeds.

i want to cultivate a home that is so full of love

I actually think the attitude that most men are shitty or it’s rare to find a decent guy just makes women settle because they feel like they’ll never be able to do better. A man doing things like respecting women or just not being a piece of shit doesn’t make him a dream man. If he doesn’t fulfil your other needs or you don’t feel a connection, don’t be scared to reject him because you think ‘decent’ men are rare. There are good men out there and you’re not asking for too much
