Reminder of where we are in the story:
Apologies if this summary is a bit all-over-the-place. I haven't had the chance to read along with this one and I read it some time ago, so I put this together by talking to friends who are reading and skimming through my paperback. If there's anything crucial you think I have missed, please let me know!

Sazed has brought Vin back to the others after their excursion to Kredik Shaw. She's badly wounded and it takes weeks for her to recover.

During her recovery, Vin learns about the Keepers and also gets another chance to go to a ball. While there she learns that Elend is meeting with some other noble boys - from families that are rivals of House Venture. She also finds that some of the books he is reading are treasonous in their content. One of the noblewomen, Elend's ex-fiancee, is trying to find out the contents of the books is he reading, and Vin realizes she is a Soother. Vin grows to like being Valette and finds herself starting to act more like Valette even when she isn't at the balls.

Meanwhile, Kelsier is going around chatting with different informants and nobles in the city, trying to sow discord between the nobles. He also helps to downplay rumors of a coming skaa rebellion.

Marsh teaches Vin some of the more intricate uses of burning Bronze and realizes just how skilled she is as a Mistborn.

Kelsier reads more of the Lord Ruler's logbook, realizing more and more that he was once very human. He visits the caves where the skaa are being trained for their rebellion and are gathering supplies and replaces Ham as general with Yeden.

This section closes with Vin coming to Elend and talking to him seriously about the Skaa one more time. He gives her a handkerchief when she becomes upset during their conversation, which she soon realizes was given to her as an act of courtship. Kelsier continues to warn her about Elend and his group just being bored noblemen and not actually interested in the skaa's cause.

Ideas for discussion:
1) What do you think of Vin's semi identity crisis, of being both Vin and Valette?
2) When Vin meets with Marsh for training, she learns a bit more about his relationship with his brother and also talks about her relationship with her brother and some of her tragic family past. How do you think her history has helped or hindered her with forming new relationships?
3) Do you have any thoughts about the Lord Ruler and his journal? Any idea how he went from the young man writing the journal to the Lord Ruler as we know him now?
4) Vin finds herself unable to stay away from Elend, and firmly believes that he is someone who will help the skaa's cause. Do you think Kelsier has reason to worry, or do you feel Elend is the real deal?
5) Any other thoughts about this section?
