Torchwood: Children of Earth: Day Four
So distraught, I almost forgot to cut.
Sorry kids, no bullet points today. I couldn't even if I tried. I couldn't actually watch through the whole thing. I jumped to Ianto's death, and then skipped through looking for the other Jack/Ianto bits because I just couldn't do the rest of it.
I dunno...I've been in so many fandoms where the pairing I love isn't actually canon (cause slash, on TV? NEVER!) and the one time it was...this happens. I mean, shit, come on. There was so much more they could do without resorting to character death. It's like the way I feel about trying to make this Jack/Ianto/Gwen love triangle. Falling into these stupid cliches when really, there is so much you can explore about the relationship between a regular man and an immortal from the future. And angst, it's practically built in!
But no, we went the character death route, again. Like...they can't think of anything else, so they choose this, I guess? Is seems like old hat after they already killed off Tosh and Owen so recently (well, not actually recent in real time, but recent in canon time). I know they're Torchwood, they die young, but this is just...a bit much.
That said, I hold out a tiny bit of hope. Not for Day Five, but for the Doctor Who specials. GDL is credited in tomorrow's episode, which makes me think he'll be there in some form. I'm actually calling a resurrection glove of some kind, to bring him back, if only to say goodbye. But we know Jack's in two Doctor Who specials. Can I hold out hope that the Doctor brings him back, or they do something to bring him back? Can't the Doctor sacrifice his regeneration to bring him back?
Also...Jack kissed Ianto after he died. Very much made me think of Cyberwoman. ...maybe? Please?
I can touch on some things I liked...Ianto holding a dead Jack...Jack coming back to life and clutching at Ianto. I liked that. I also liked Ianto telling Jack that he tells him everything and he's only scratched the surface of Jack, and calling Jack out.
Also...the death scene? Well done, in my opinion. Heartbreaking. I'm devastated that Ianto told Jack he loved him and all broken up over how he didn't want Jack to forget him. And the way Jack's voice broke when he said "Stay with me" KILLED me. Killed me. OK. Can't discuss it anymore. I need some distance.
They kind of killed me fandom...I'm not sure I can watch anymore. If Ianto stays dead? This is the end of me and Torchwood. I just hope I can still read fic. It's tough right now. Almost need to distance them from the actual show.
Also, I'm consuming lots of wine. I need a group hug and some fluff.
Oh my, the wine. I feel it kicking it. Soothe the pain of Ianto loss, pleeeease.
