FRAGS (Framingham Area Gamers Society) Gaming Party Weekend - October 20-22

muttstain has announced his next gaming party weekend. As I did last time, I have decided to make an effort to find all the cool gamer grrls and guys and tell them about it.

-------

Matt of FRAGS (Framingham Area Gamers Society) announces:
Join me for a weekend of games and movies in Framingham starting at 7:30 PM Friday October 20th and running through midnight Sunday night October 22nd.

It's time for another weekend of games and movies. Since this one will
be so close to Halloween, I encourage people to come in costume.

I have been running these events 3-4 times a year for nearly 25 years. For those not familiar with the details, dinner is provided on Saturday night (weather permitting there will be a cookout), otherwise I cook up a large pot of rather spicy chili, and many people are kind enough to contribute pizzas, chickens, and the like. Food donations are appreciated, though not required.

I have hundreds of board, card and party games to choose from, but feel free to bring your own. There's a 9-foot pool table, a retro video game library in the basement, featuring 100's of released and never-released games for the Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Colecovision, Odyssey 2, and Vectrex. If the weather is nice, people can actually do outdoor games.

For people wanting a break from gaming, I have plenty of DVD's (over 1.000), mostly cheesy B-grade horror movies. I have hundreds of them, or feel free to bring your own.

This time there will be a Texas Hold'em tournament. I'm looking to have around 24-30 people participating (3 tables). More details to follow.
There is plenty of crash space for people who want to stay over, as gaming often runs until 6:00 am on Friday and Saturday night.

As always, this event is open to members of MENSA, Unity Games, Meet-in-Boston, NECG and Bostongamers. If you aren't a member of these groups, drop an email to hnybny and she'll forward your request to attend.

Combining factual and fictitious tableaux in which he plays his own alter ego, Gibbons enacts various dramatic episodes in his life. Transgressive acts and traumatic events--becoming addicted to heroin, shoplifting, drinking, and evading his parole officers …are laid before the viewer with disarming honesty. In this existential dance with his own shadow, the psyche takes on the form of a catastrophic, yet comical labyrinth, within whose corridors Gibbons is condemned to perpetually roam.
Chrissie Isles, curator, Whitney Museum

Hello Everyone!

I am very excited! Spring BARFFing out all over! I just got back from The Big Apple Con! At the con I met Debbie Rochon of Troma Fame. She is in such classics as Tromeo and Juliet, Terror Firmer, Citizen Toxie and Night of the Living Dead 30th anniversary edition.

I purchased a copy of Hellblock 13, from Troma - of course! Debbie signed both the disc and a copy of The B-Movie Survival Guide- A comprehensive Guide to the ins and outs of finding a way to live till the final credits! It's a must read for all the presidents of bad film organizations or people who find themselves in a horror movie!

I would write more but the scary music playing in the background indicates there is danger and I might be.. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Considered the worst film maker of all time, Ed Wood won a cult following after his death and now fans can see his long-lost last film "Necromania," a work some say shows he was so bad that he was brilliant.

But it's not for the faint-hearted. The 1971 movie is a porn film documenting the sexual enlightenment of a young couple at the hands of a coven of witches.

..."Necromania" -- the last film Wood directed -- was filmed over two or three days with a budget of no more than $7,000 and the only copies went missing soon after it was made. The movie tells the story of Danny and Shirley, a young couple who visit the mysterious Madame Heles for help with their flagging sex life. The lessons they are taught involve skulls, spells and sex in a coffin.

Rudolph Grey, author of a biography of the director, and a fellow Ed Wood enthusiast, movie distributor Alexander Kogan, unearthed "Necromania" in a warehouse in Los Angeles after more than 15 years of detective work.

from Long-Lost Final Film by Ed Wood Rediscovered

There's a new night for live bands, third thursday of every month at the Skybar in Somerville.

Right now we're fiending for bands that are DARK and rockin' in the vein of Joy Division, Bauhaus, The Cure, Siouxsie, The Cramps and TSOL.
Modern reference points: Radio Berlin, Turn Pale, Kill Me Tomorrow, Interpol, Switchblade Symphony, Bella Morte and The Nekromantix.
If you're morbid and NOT metal, you're game.

The purpose of this night is to unify the darker postpunk/Gothic, indie and horror punk/psychobilly scenes into a cohesive hole. Leave a comment with bandcontacts, and website/demo info if you're interested!!

Thanks!
~ Basim

Some were even subjected to Saturday morning cartoons of Toxic Crusaders.

Be sure to stay tuned for details about our March event! Cheers!

In addition to the fine films we we show in the BARFF room Friday and Saturday night, I need to draw your attention to this fine gem that Arisia Has put on the program.SATURDAY 1:00 AM: Star Pilot
This film was originally produced in Italy in 1967 with a very low production budget. It was resurrected for US distribution with a quickly-done dubbing job in 1976, to capitalize on the SF craze that came about after Star Wars. It is the worst SF film ever made. Worse than Plan Nine, worse than Fungus of Terror. We guarantee you have never seen worse acting in your life. You must see it to believe it.
(16mm)
Preceded by the short film BOMB, which advocates private ownership of nuclear weapons but also describes some of the unfortunate side effects of legal home nukes. This film is a must-see if you intend on installing nuclear or thermonuclear devices in your home.
(16mm, 20 min)

I for one will be putting myself to sleep with this baby!

I did some research on "Coffin Joe". Copernic gave me over 600 sites to look at. I only browsed a few. He looks like he made movies which would be worth seeing if one had plenty of popcorn to throw at the screen. Below are a few snippets out of many.

Brazil's "Mouth of Garbage" Cinema inflicted by the dark prince of Sao Paolo: Jose "Coffin Joe " Mojica Marins.

http://picpal.com/somethingweird/cjoe2.html

"Awakening of the Beast" is a deliriously psychedelic nightmare about the rise of drug use and perversion among the youth of the nation. In a series of increasingly bizarre vignettes we see all manner of depravity, from a group of finger-sniffing hippies to a lecherous movie producer seducing a young starlet. Four drug addicts are chosen out of this group to take part in an LSD experiment. What follows is the closest thing to real acid trip ever put on film--but are they under the influence of LSD or Coffin Joe? Banned by Brazil's military dictatorship for nearly 20 years, it is now considered by many to be writer-director-star Jose Mojica Marins' masterpiece.

http://www.mondo-digital.com/coffinjoe.html

Now, the reason I stumbled upon "coffin Joe" in the first place is from a reference to him in a film directed by Marcello Motta. No idea if this is the same Marcello Motta who headed the OTO in Brazil, but I just had to look.

Strange Hostel of Naked Pleasures (1975)

Starring: Jose Mojica Marins.

For the first part of the film, which seems to last forever there are a whole gang of women and a whole gaggle of men all dancing around and seemingly playing a part in a ritual in all states of undress. Finally after an interminable long time a man pops out of a coffin and the film jumps to him running his hostel. In this hostel there are many rooms and in all of them as people come to the hostel, are filled with people having sex. Throughout the film you will see at least thirty sets of breasts, maybe more. In one room there must be twenty couples all making out in various groupings. This is a very strange and weird film and is only for those who enjoy out of this world weird videos.

Jose Mojica Marins produced and stars in this eerie epic in which he plays the owner of a haunted hostel where guests make their wildest and most terrifying dreams come true. Not for the squeamish, this surrealist shocker was directed by "Coffin Joe" disciple Marcelo Motta. In Portuguese with English subtitles.
