The Great Gatsby Undead

3.9 out of 5 stars (12)

It’s F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic story…revamped.

Nick Carraway meets his mysterious neighbor, Jay Gatsby. Gatsby doesn’t seem to eat anything, and has an aversion to silver, garlic, and the sun, but good friends are hard to come by. Especially an interesting millionaire like Gatsby.

When Gatsby asks Nick to help catch a murderer, Nick just can’t say no. And, of course, Nick agrees to set up a tea date for his cousin Daisy and Gatsby. It’s harmless to reunite two old friends; until Nick realizes the truth he’s known, deep down, the entire time.

Jay Gatsby is a vampire.

I had to read the original Great Gatsby in high school (who didn’t?), so I was a little hesitant to read this version since I like the original as it is. I LOVE Gatsby already so giving him this bloody twist intrigued me. Could it work? And more importantly, could it work without ruining the story for me?

The answer is: YES! The writing is so good, I felt like Nick was talking me through everything that was happening. I felt his fear, his admiration, his conflict, and his SURPRISE. The vampirism gives Gatsby an added layer of mystery and you can really feel Nick’s struggle as you’re reading. Highly recommend!
