Effective July 1, 2025, the Washington State Library in Tumwater is closed to the public due to a loss of funding. Limited access will be available by appointment only on Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. To request an appointment, please email [email protected].

06/17/2026 - OLYMPIA — As of June 16, the Washington Digital Newspapers program has officially gathered more than one million pages from historic local newspapers in its online collection.  
06/03/2026 - OLYMPIA — The Washington Center for Book, a program of the Office of the Secretary of State and the Washington State Library, has selected one youth book and one adult book by Washington authors to represent the state at the 2026 National Book Festival: When Tomorrow Burns by Tae Keller (Penguin Random House) and Positively Uncivilized by Rena Priest (Raven Chronicles Press).
04/22/2026 - OLYMPIA — Institutional Library Services, a program of the Washington State Library, received the Outstanding Service Award for its work with incarcerated and hospitalized adults, and justice impacted youth patrons.
