Some more Sean Bean plus Ewan McGregor (with Colin Farrell) in Venice.
Two additional calendar walls, as wished for. And I used the Jared one for a tutorial since I've been asked for one. ;)
The background is a 1024x768 texture by
mewful. Duplicate it, desaturate the copy (leave it at normal) and duplicate that one again, set to soft light. Merge it down so you end up with a coloured and a b&w texture.
Apply this slightly edited (needed it a bit bigger) framebrush byendlessdeep. Select the inside on the b&w texture and delete it.

Take your picture - preferably with a light or white background - and if needed resize it to around 500px height. Desaturate, duplicate, set the duplicate to soft light or overlay, depending on the grade of contrast you like.
Apply the pic onto your background and move it over to the frame. The next step of getting rid of the background is for lazy people like me, but only works with the said light or white background.
Duplicate the picture where it is now, and set the one underneath to multiply, leave the top one at normal. Now take a fuzzy brush and start erasing the background on the top picture. With the hair and clothes being black like here you don't have to be very accurate.
If there's, like here, still some background visible from the multiplied picture, erase that loosely with said fuzzy brush. You don't have to be to get rid of everything as long as it isn't pitch black, just make sure there won't be any sharp edges visible anymore. If that makes sense.

Apply brushes of your choice (on top of that I added some dark red on lighten overneath the calendar brush) and that's it.
