  • the compleat bibliography of Keith R.A. DeCandido — all my work listed in one place (updated as of 24 June 2026)
  • guide to my reviews of new Star Trek — I’ve been reviewing the new Trek productions (Discovery, Short Treks, Picard, Lower Decks, Prodigy, Strange New Worlds, Section 31, Khan, Starfleet Academy) on Paramount+ (formerly CBS All Access) for Reactor Magazine (formerly Tor.com), and this post is regularly updated with each new review as they go live
  • guide to KRAD readings — during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, I started up the YouTube channel “KRAD COVID readings,” renamed “KRAD readings” in 2023, and this post is a guide to all the stuff I’ve been reading as part of it, regularly updated with each new reading
  • guide to 4-Color to 35-Millimeter: The Great Superhero Movie Rewatch — I rewatched every live-action movie based on a superhero comic book each week from August 2017 to January 2020 for Reactor Magazine (formerly Tor.com), and now the feature is occasional, with me looking back at new movies that have been released every six months to a year or so; this is an alphabetical guide to all the movies I’ve covered or plan to cover

my Shore Leave 46 schedule

BERJAYA

As I have been every year that begins with the numbers “20,” I will be a guest at Shore Leave! And as I have been most years since 2006 (the only exceptions being the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021) I will be both an author guest and a musical guest! And as I have been since 2024, I will also be a dealer. Come see me in Lancaster this weekend!

Here’s my schedule of programming:

Friday

10pm-midnight: “Meet the Pros,” w/aaaalllllll the author guests! (Wheatland)

Saturday

9-10am: “Writing as Business,” w/Kathleen David, Robert Greenberger, and Jim Johnson (Kinderhook)

11am-noon: Boogie Knights concert (Lincoln Theatre)

4-5pm: “eSpec Books Presents,” w/Danielle Ackley-McPhail, Aaron Rosenberg, and Hildy Silverman (Cornwall)

6-7pm: “10 Things I Love to Hate About You,” w/Christopher D. Abbott, Heatherly Hodges, and Hildy Silverman (Wheatland)

In addition, the Boogie Knights will be performing at Masquerade halftime in the Lincoln Theatre some time after 8pm.

Sunday

11am-noon: “Star Trek at 60: 58 Years of Books and Comics,” w/Robb Pearlman, Scott Pearson, Dayton Ward, and JK Woodward (Ballroom A)

(Please note that I’m listed as being on the Starfleet Academy panel Saturday at 10am, but since that’s right before the Boogie Knights concert, I have to bow out of that, as I need that time to prep for the gig.)

I will also be introducing David Hewlett & Rachel Luttrell for their Q&As at 3pm on both Saturday and Sunday in the Lincoln Theatre.

All other times, I’ll be either in the dealer room selling and signing stuff or in the bar. Hope to see folks!

Babylon 5 Rewatch: “The Wheel of Fire”

BERJAYA

It’s the beginning of the end, as we see Garibaldi, Alexander, and G’Kar taking the next steps in their lives, steps that will take them off B5 all together. The Babylon 5 Rewatch rides “The Wheel of Fire.”

An excerpt:

It’s appropriate that this is the episode whose title was used for the whole season, because it’s the whole season in a nutshell: important stuff happens, yes, but almost every scene takes almost twice as long as it needs to. It wouldn’t be so bad if it was just one scene, but Sheridan’s talk with Garibaldi, Franklin’s talk with G’Kar, Lochley’s talk with Garbaldi, and Garibaldi’s talks with Alexander all are seriously stretched out. Plus, before Sheridan and Garibaldi’s talk, there’s a lengthy, unheard conversation between Sheridan and Delenn, which is obvious filler, and completely unnecessary.

Babylon 5 Rewatch: “The Fall of Centauri Prime”

BERJAYA

It’s the conclusion of the Centauri Republic arc, which has been one of the true high points of the series’ five-year run, and this is the best episode of the generally dreary final season. The Babylon 5 Rewatch observes “The Fall of Centauri Prime.”

An excerpt:

The real tragedy of Londo Mollari here is that in the end he does what he’s always done: what he thinks is best for the Centauri people. This makes him rare among the aristocracy on his world—most of the people we see in that sphere are opportunists who are interested mainly in improving their personal positions. There are exceptions besides Mollari—Emperor Turhan, Urza Jaddo, Lord Jano—but they are few and far between, and, more to the point, they’re all dead.

happy book birthday to Creepshow: 13 New Tales of Terror!

BERJAYA

Today is the official on-sale date for Creepshow: 13 New Tales of Terror!, edited by the mighty James Aquilone and featuring my story “Instant Karma,” as well as a dozen other stories by my friends and colleagues Jonathan Maberry, David Avallone, Nancy Collins, Tim Waggoner, Tom Sniegoski, and editor James, as well as a half-dozen other great authors. The full table of contents is here, and here’s a link to the publisher’s book-ordering page.

Here’s an excerpt from “Instant Karma”:

I think the best way to show how different they were is to tell you about Pedro and Jamal. Both of them were nice kids, but they both were getting bullied.

Pedro’s parents put him in Charlie’s school, and he became a really good fighter. Won a couple trophies for Charlie’s display case. The kids who bullied him started leaving him alone—Charlie’s school had a rep—but then one day one of those same kids accidentally bumped Pedro in the hallway at school. Pedro proceeded to beat the stuffing out of the poor kid. He had to have his jaw rewired, and Pedro got himself arrested. Charlie paid for his lawyer, though, and he just got a couple months in juvenile detention. And after he got out? Charlie threw him a party. Kid made it to black belt. He got a job at the gas station on Route 9.

Jamal, though, joined Sensei Asano’s dojo. He got more confident, too, but he never did sparring class. Said he didn’t like to hurt people and didn’t want to learn how. And then one day in gym class, they were running around the track, and one of the kids who bullied him tripped and twisted his ankle. The bully’s friends all laughed at him, but Jamal went and helped the kid up and supported him back to the school nurse’s office. The two kids are best friends now. And Jamal’s now working with underprivileged kids in the city.

Yeah, well, I know which one I’d be proud of if I was their parent.

Babylon 5 Rewatch: “Movements of Fire and Shadow”

BERJAYA

The fecal matter hits the cooling appliance as the war between the Centauri Republic and the rest of the Interstellar Alliance heats up rather significantly. The Babylon 5 Rewatch observes some “Movements of Fire and Shadow.”

An excerpt:

The stuff on Centauri Prime continues to be the show’s best material, due in part to the usual brilliance of Andreas Katsulas and Peter Jurasik, but mainly this time around because of how Damian London absolutely kills it. London’s Virini has had to be many things on this show, generally being whatever flavor of obdurate bureaucrat and/or aristocratic toady is required of him. But his talk with Mollari at the end of the episode is devastating. It’s the same high-pitched squeal that London has been using for the character all along, but it’s slower, more intense, more monotone, and scary as hell. London perfectly shows the character’s helplessness and awareness of how pathetic and broken he is.

Babylon 5 Rewatch: “And All My Dreams, Torn Asunder”

BERJAYA

Mollari is unable to properly do his job, Garibaldi is incapable of doing his job, and G’Kar gives himself an old job. The Babylon 5 Rewatch looks at the Centauri’s withdrawal from the Interstellar Alliance with the pretentiously titled “And All My Dreams, Torn Asunder.”

An excerpt:

How is it even possible that the only method by which the Rangers had set up to get White Star assistance to the blockades was through Garibaldi? What if he’s in the bathroom when they call? Or if he’s doing one of the other eight billion things he might need to be doing as the head of intelligence for a massive interplanetary alliance? Or, and here’s a biggie, what if the crisis happened when he was legitimately asleep? Why don’t the White Stars have backup contacts? Like Lennier, who’s on B5 already. Or, and here’s a crazy idea, what about Delenn who’s supposed to be Ranger One, for crying out loud. Deploying the Rangers is kind of her job. So why is it suddenly entirely Garibaldi’s responsibility?
