Motivation
[edit]Sri Lanka's NGO sector is regulated by the National Secretariat for Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO Secretariat), which issues registration numbers in the format L-XXXXX (local NGOs) and FL-XXXXX (foreign/International NGOs). These identifiers are used on official documents, annual reports, and funding agreements. There is currently no Wikidata property to capture this identifier, preventing proper linking of Sri Lankan NGOs to their official registry. This property is analogous to national charity/NGO registers in other countries (Charity Commission no. P3057 for England & Wales, Scottish Charity number P3163, etc.).

- Comment I have added five verified real examples to the proposal page, including both local NGOs (L-#####) and foreign/international NGOs (FL-#####): SOS Children's Villages Sri Lanka (FL-03411), Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka (FL-93516), PAFFREL (L-107316), Hemas Outreach Foundation (L-105904), and Alliance Development Trust (FL-106206). All numbers are sourced from the official NGO Secretariat registry.
- Regarding the estimate of currently existing Wikidata items: based on a preliminary scan, approximately 40–60 existing items for Sri Lankan NGOs and INGOs could receive this property immediately. The NGO Secretariat maintains a registry of ~1,500+ active NGOs, so the long-term potential is 1,500+ items as coverage expands.
