Changes to the Yahoo Smart TV platform on TV Devices

As of September 30, 2025, Yahoo has discontinued support and maintenance of the Yahoo Smart TV platform. As a result, applications running on this platform will no longer be available on affected TV devices that used the Yahoo Smart TV Platform.

Please refer to the table below for a list of TV devices that might be impacted and their corresponding manufacturing years. Please note that not all TV models from the listed manufacturers and corresponding years use the Yahoo Smart TV Platform.

You can still enjoy watching content on your TV by plugging in a cable box or popular streaming media player device like an Apple TV, Fire TV or Roku device to access your favorite TV apps.

1. What is happening to my VIZIO TV?

   If you are seeing notifications on your TV communicating that Yahoo will discontinue support and maintenance of their Smart TV platform on VIZIO VIA and VIA+ TVs after September 30, 2025, this means built-in apps will no longer be accessible on the platform after that date.

2. Why are you shutting down support for apps on the home screen?

   These are older TV devices that are no longer able to support the latest technology offered by our partners. As such, Yahoo is discontinuing maintenance and support of the platform.

3. Will I still be able to use my VIZIO TV?

   Yes, you will still be able to use your VIZIO VIA/VIA+ TV. Your VIZIO TV can still be used for entertainment via the antenna, or HDMI inputs such as plugging in a TV streaming stick or cable box. Your VIZIO TV can be used for live channels via the antenna input or as a monitor for computing devices via the HDMI inputs, and you may still change settings and make adjustments to the screens.

4. When will these changes happen to my VIZIO TV and what TVs are affected?

   The discontinuation, effective September 30th, 2025, will only affect older model VIZIO VIA and VIA+ TVs that operate the Yahoo Smart TV platform. VIZIO OS (SmartCast) TVs will not be affected.

5. How can I access the apps I use that will no longer be available on the Yahoo Smart TV Platform?

   You may access and watch popular apps on your TV, like Netflix, by using a TV streaming stick or cable box in the HDMI input of your VIZIO TV. You can also download the VIZIO mobile app to watch free live TV on WatchFree+.
