Arabic terminology

In this article, which is published in Persian and will be translated into and published in English, I tried to show that the word for logical and philosophical concept ‘accident’ was loan-translated from Greek into Middle Persian as jahišn. The same happened in Arabic for ʿaraḍ, this time being calqued probably on a Middle Persian word, i.e. jadag. This can be in line with the opinion of Pahlavi origin of Arabic logic and will add another word to the list of intellectual Arabic calques on Pahlavi and of course another word to the list of Pahlavi calques on Greek. A similar concept can be found in medicine in which another Greek word loan-translated into Middle Persian as jadag, based on which also a revised reading will be proposed for a short part of a Middle Persian passage on medicine.

This article provides extensive and detailed information on the grammatical and lexical problems of various systems in modern linguistics, as well as the terminology of the field, especially issues of terms related to the political sphere (Arabic language), substitution and translation of words. moving from foreign languages into words corresponding to our native language.

This article provides the necessary information about the history of the formation and development of terminology in the Arabic language, about the division of the lexical structure of the Arabic literary language into stages, about the translation of words that came from foreign languages into the native language in Arabic terminology, and the use of methods and tools unique to Arabic literary language.

Ovaj rječnik namijenjen je prije svega onima koji se bave proučavanjem klasične arapske gramatike, odnosno klasične arapske morfologije (al-ṣarf) i sintakse (al-naḥw), zatim klasične arapske stilistike, odnosno retorike (‛ilm al-balāġa), kla¬sične arapske književnosti, književne kritike (al-naqd), metrike i znanosti o rimi (‛ilm al-‛arūḍ wa al-qāfiya) te svima koji se bave proučavanjem klasičnih arapskih tekstova iz različitih oblasti. Svakako, kazanō ne znači da se ovaj rječnik ne može koristiti prilikom obrađivanja novijih tekstova iz navedenih oblasti, a pogotovo u slučajevima kad se radi o tekstovima koji su nastali kao rezultat tradicionalni¬jih pristupa. U rječniku su sadržani termini iz naprijed navedenih oblasti i dati su njihovi prijevodni ekvivalenti ili opisni prijevodi na bosanski jezik. U ovom rječniku nastojali smo obuhvatiti autohtone arapske termine, tj. termine koji su nastali kao rezultat klasičnih i postklasičnih arapskih naučnih napora. U rječnik nisu uključeni termini koji su preuzeti iz evropske lingvističke i književnokritič¬ke tradicije ili su nastali pod utjecajem te tradicije.

How to say “Narrative” in Arabic?

The article deals with several Arabic terms used in modern Arabic language to convey the meaning of the term “narrative”, and focuses on the problematic Arabic terminology employed in the description of the narratological theory. The author suggests returning to the word “qiṣṣa” as the original word which denotes narrative.

يهدف البحث إلى تحليل الوحدات اللغويّة المستخدمة للحديث عن مرض كوفيد 19 في المقالات الصحفيّة ودراسة تطوّرها من تسميات إلى كلمات إلى مصطلحات، كما ويهدف إلى تحديد منهجيّة خلق المصطلحات العربيّة بشكلٍ عام وخلق مصطلحات مرتبطة بكوفيد 19 بشكلٍ خاص وكيف أثّر هذا الوباء على خلق مصطلحاته كون النصوص العلميّة حوله تهمّ المختصّين وغير المختصّين على حدٍّ سواء. اعتمدنا في تحليلنا على مدوّنة تتألّف من عدّة مقالات ومواقع صحفيّة عربيّة من بلدان مختلفة.
The research aims to analyze the linguistic units used to talk about COVID 19 in press articles and to study their evolution from designations to words and then terms. It also aims to define the methodology for creating Arabic terms in general and terms related to COVID 19 in particular. We demonstrate how this epidemic affected its terminology creation, as scientific texts about COVID 19 are of interest to specialists and non-specialists alike. Our analysis is based on a corpus composed of several articles and Arab press websites from different countries.
