Postcolonial Studies

O artigo aborda os recentes fenômenos de mudanças presidenciais ocorridos em países da América Latina de forma a investigar as nuances do conceito de “novo golpismo”. Discutimos em que medida os eventos até aqui intitulados de golpes institucionais podem indicar os desafios a serem enfrentados pelo constitucionalismo naquelas sociedades, marcadas pelo modo colonial de reprodução das relações de poder. O estudo compara o atual estado da arte do constitucionalismo latino americano com os recentes acontecimentos institucionais que invocam uma possível fragilidade nas estruturas desses Estados Democráticos de Direito. Realizamos, para tanto, uma pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, centrada nas interfaces do tema com a Ciência Política.  A análise explora, a partir dessa aparente contradição, as relações entre colonialismo, colonialidade e direito, no intuito de buscar possíveis respostas aos desafios do fortalecimento da democracia em sociedades periféricas.

In his book The Impossible State, Wael Hallaq argues that the modern state is a bad fit for Muslims. This is so because the paradigm of “Islamic Governance”, developed through centuries of Islamic rule, and the modern state of the West are incompatibles if not altogether contradictory. This study investigates the major question of the modern world, whether the English language acts as a necessity or an imposition for the graduate and post graduate students belonging to the arena of engineering and technology. Random thirty students were chosen and were surveyed for around ten questions inside the campus. The responses to the questions were reported and jotted down to calculate the percent wise graphs. These graphs include the segregated reports of all the questions and its three options. These graphs indicated that more than 53% of the students felt that studying English language is the present demand, however around 37% students felt that the English language is the need as well as it does as an imposition too. The study has demonstrated that pupils felt that the survey conducted was relevant but it should have been done at a planetary level.

Este artigo objetiva estudar comparativamente os trajetos dos personagens Macunaíma, da obra homônima do escritor Mário de Andrade (1893-1945), e José Servando Teresa de Mier Noriega y Guerra, protagonista do romance El mundo alucinante (1997), do escritor cubano Reinaldo Arenas (1943-1990). Em ambas as obras, nota-se que a peregrinação desses dois personagens é permeada por eventos insólitos, que se situam na categoria do Realismo Mágico. Embora haja uma distância temporal significativa separando Servando e Macunaíma, este vivencia suas aventuras no início do século XX, e aquele, no final do século XVIII, os dois irmanam-se ao se deslocarem por uma geografia “alucinante”, na tentativa de se manterem livres de qualquer tipo de opressão. Background: Workplace violence (WPV) is a detrimental factor affecting nurses' health and performance. Individual protective factors such as resilience can assist nurses in coping with and adapting to workplace adversity. Objectives: The present study was aimed to determine the relationship between resilience and exposure to WPV in emergency nurses. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on 118 emergency nurses in Tabriz educational hospitals, Iran. The participants were selected through a convenience sampling method. A demographic questionnaire, the Conner-Davidson Resilience Scale, and the Modified Questionnaire of Workplace Violence in the health sector were used for data collection. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, logistic regression analysis, t-test, and one-way analysis of variance. Situated largely within the Marxist debates on imperialism—but addressing the liberal formulations too—The Changing Face of Imperialism: Colonialism to Contemporary Capitalism is an important intervention regarding the material basis of imperialism and its three-hundred-year-old history of unequal power relations. The book broadly addresses five issues: (1) the nature of finance capital and the novel yet familiar processes of value extraction; (2) the world of capital; (3) global production networks and labor regimes; (4) the institutional system of nation-states in the new global order; and (5) the nature of integration from colonial regimes to now.

"The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano" (1789) by Olaudah Equiano (or Gustavus Vassa) is a key text in the history of Black British Writing that suggests the possible role of literature in the abolition of the British slave trade in the early 19 th century. A central feature of Equiano's autofictional text is a programmatic emphasis on the narrative generation of empathy. 18 th century philosophers such as David Hume and Adam Smith celebrated the capacity for sympathy with 'our fellow-humans' as a 'moral sentiment' that could help to build ethical communities. However, scholars such as Amit S. Rai and Xine Yao have recently demonstrated the limits of sympathy discourses that cater to Western feelings of benevolence and moral superiority with little impact on internalized structures of racism and xenophobia. In this seminar, we will first analyse Equiano's strategic use of empathy scripts and then contrast his text with two contemporary re-writings, namely Caryl Phillips' "Cambridge" (1991) and Bernardine Evaristo's "Blonde Roots" (2008), which seem to challenge and problematize Equiano's poetics of affect specifically in the way they reconfigure the relationship between text and reader. Our readings will be accompanied by consultations of contemporary approaches to the affective phenomenon of empathy from disciplines as varied as philosophy, evolutionary biology, and the neurosciences, including recent developments in literary studies that focus on the concept of "narrative empathy", such as the works of Fritz Breithaupt and Suzanne Keen.

In spite of the 1988 Constitution and LDB 9394/96 we intend to show how the design of supporting early childhood education and development of children as a come-to-be, still rooted in that time it proclaims the nursery and pre-school as an area of experiences of rights citizenship. In the present work remains crotch "With eyes of Children" by Italian Francesco Tonucci, in which childhood is depicted through drawings, where many of them are completing 30 years of existence.

Mario Vargas Llosa has published many first-rate biographical novels. In this interview, I focus mainly on his novel The Dream of the Celt, which is about the famous humanitarian, Roger Casement, an Irishman who went to the Congo and the Amazon to expose crimes against humanity and to combat colonialism. This work led him to understand the sense in which and the degree to which Ireland was a colonized country. In his novel, Vargas Llosa charts the transformations inside Casement from being sympathetic to colonialism to being a critic of it, from considering himself British to considering himself an anti-British Irishman. The aesthetic-political act of decolonization from both a psychological and linguistic perspective is of crucial importance.
