This study examined the notion that stereotype threat experiments can be influenced through linguistic manipulation. The cueing of a phrase (whether stereotypical or non-stereotypical) can produce performance differences between groups, rather than cueing of a stereotype, as used in previous research. Participants (n=95) mostly Caucasian females (68%) ranging in age from 18-45 (M=22.7). The design involved three groups and participants were randomly assigned in order to control for consequential affects. The control group received no verbal cues. The stereotypical group received a stereotypical cue (i.e. men tend to do better on this test than women). The counter-stereotypical group received a false stereotypical cue (i.e. women tend to do better on this test than men do). After cueing, all participants completed a math test. Financial ratios analysis is a very useful tool for owners and managers to assess the performance of their clubs. This study surveyed the financial performance of clubs over a 3year period from 2014 to 2016. While 8 of the 24 ratios showed a positive trajectory each year in the last few years and 8 other ratios reported a positive trend from 2015 to 2016, 7 reported a mixed trend, and 1 experienced a downward trend. The results of the top performers (fifth, or top, quintile) and the bottom performers (first, or lowest, quintile) and clubs of different sizes were also studied. In 2016, the median profit margin was at a high of 1.12%, with the top quintile reporting at 17.3% and the lower quintile at loss of 9.52%.

This paper examines and compares the relationships between capital regulations, risk and efficiency of Islamic banks with conventional banks in Pakistan from 2003 to 2015. By employing seemingly unrelated regression (SUR) this study finds that capital regulations have no significant effect on the risks taken by Pakistani Islamic banks. Capital regulations have increased the operational efficiency, while it has neither decreased nor increased the cost efficiency of the banks. The results of this study find no major difference in the capital regulations, risk and efficiency relationships between Islamic and conventional banks. The findings of this study also highlight the significant difference in the effect of capital regulations on the bank risks before and after the Global Financial Crisis of 2008, while there is no difference in the impact of capital regulations on bank efficiency before and after the 2008 crisis.

Several procedures for non-linear static and dynamic analysis of structures have been developed in recent years. This paper discusses those procedures that have been implemented into the latest European and U.S. seismic provisions: the non-linear dynamic response- history analysis ; the N2 non-linear static pushover method (Eurocode 8) ; the non-linear static procedure NSP (FEMA 356) and improved capacity spectrum method CSM (FEMA 440). The presented methods differ in respect to accuracy, simplicity, transparency and clarity of theoretical background. Non-linear static procedures were developed with the aim of overcoming the insufficiency and the limitations of linear methods, whilst at the same time maintaining a relative simple application. The aim of this study was to investigate the in vitro dissolution characteristics of pH-responsive polymers in a variety of simulated fluids. Prednisolone tablets were fabricated and coated with the following polymer systems: Eudragit S (organic solution), Eudragit S (aqueous dispersion), Eudragit FS (aqueous dispersion) and Eudragit P4135 (organic solution). Dissolution tests were conducted using a pH change method whereby tablets were transferred from acid to buffer. Three different buffer media were investigated: two compendial phosphate buffers (pH range 6.8-7.4) and a physiological buffer solution (Hanks buffer) with very similar ionic composition to intestinal fluid (pH 7.4). In this study, the polymer and aluminum collector have been investigated to see the effect of the fin efficiency and collector efficiency factor. Knowing the fin efficiency and collector efficiency factor will be increase with the high thermal conductivity, this study observed the varied dimensions and gaps of tubes. This study developed a thermal model of a photovoltaic thermal collector (PVT) to predict the performance and outlet temperature of the system. The PVT consisted of a polycrystalline photovoltaic module, a polymer collector–type sheet in a tube, and an insulator. The motivation of the present work is that the polymer materials are flexible, low cost and lightweight which are for the PVT applications. The outlet temperature of the PVT increased with the decreasing rate of mass flow into the riser because the water had sufficient time for thermal heating. One unit of polymer collector can achieve an outlet temperature of 69 °C at 500 W/m2 at a mass flow rate of 0.0063 kg/s.

Contact dermatitis (footpad dermatitis (FPD), hock burns, and breast dermatitis) is a welfare issue for broiler chickens, causing pain and behavioral restrictions. Once lesions develop, often nothing is done to remedy the issue for the affected flock. Our objective was to evaluate novel flooring treatments at the flock level by providing preventative and remedial treatments against contact dermatitis, plumage soiling, and gait impairment. Broilers (n = 546) were housed in 42 pens, with 13 birds/pen. The flooring treatments (four) included used litter (NEG), new pine shavings replaced regularly (POS), a mat filled with 1% povidone-iodine solution (MAT), and the iodine mat placed on a slatted floor (SLAT). Flooring treatments were provided from day one of age (preventative approach; PREV) or day 29 (remedial approach; REM). Pressure screens are used as a means of separating pulp fibres from contaminants. They are also used to improve pulp quality by fractionating fibres by length. Both functions are limited by the capacity of the device. Three studies were conducted in this thesis to understand the factors that affect maximum capacity. Capacity is determined by the complex hydrodynamics in the region between the screen rotor and the screen wall. To better understand this flow, the stream-wise velocity and aperture velocities were measured using particle image velocimetry. The vortex generated above the aperture and its size is shown to be strongly dependent on the aperture velocity, wall roughness and, to some extent, on the rotor speed. The vortex diminishes in size at higher aperture velocities that increase the exit layer height. Pulp screens remove contaminants from pulp suspensions and are critical to the production of highquality paper products. Screen performance is determined by two internal components: a cylinder with apertures that pass acceptable bres and block oversize contaminants, and a rotor that clears the apertures of any blockages.
