Most survey researchers advocate standardizing interviewing methods, but they differ in how best to do it. On one extreme, survey researchers argue that interviewers should present exactly the same words to all respondents, and they should leave the interpretation of those words entirely up to the respondents. Under this view (see Fowler & Magnione, 1990), interviewers, in the interest of collecting objective data, should avoid influencing responsesnthat is, they should refrain from any behaviors that might influence one respondent differently than another. If respondents ask what a question means, interviewers should not answer directly; rather, they should repeat the question, repeat the response alternatives, or tell respondents "whatever it means to you." Interactivity in e-learning environment is an innovative approach in teaching-learning. Predominantly theoretical justification of interactive learning environment has been discussed on the basis of the process of visual and auditory information in our memory system. However, by definition interactive is described as ‘to act’. The objective of this study is to explain the reason of utilizing modality in Teaching Learning Process. The research methodology used in the research is qualitative research design. The data were analyzed by applying the theory of Miles, Huberman and Saldana (2014). The findings of this study revealed that the reasons of the teacher applied  the modality to give the instruction during teaching learning process and to show the power of the teacher in managing the class and to encourage the students to give feedbacks or responses to the teacher. Research findings show that using virtual world environments, such as Second Life (SL), for language learning can create a more comfortable yet authentic learning environment for language learners. This research focused on the influence of virtual immersion Mandarin Chinese writing instruction with a participant with autism by conducting an action research to seek possible solutions for teaching and learning needs. In this research, there were 2 cycles: traditional writing instruction (TWI) and virtual immersion writing instruction (VIWI). Three writing topics were presented to the participant. The topics were: describe the kitchen, going to the convenience store, and comparisons between different transportations. Each topic was presented to the participant during 2 class sessions, 50 min each. First session was for prewriting planning activities by using mind maps. Second session was to review the prewriting materials and then move on to the writing activity. For results, summarization and comparison of the mind maps and essays from the participant were conducted. The essays were graded then the scores were compared. Oral interviews regarding attitudes toward Mandarin Chinese learning, Mandarin Chinese writing learning, and 3D virtual reality learning were collected further to understand the participant's thoughts in these areas. Results show that the incorporation of VIWI not only changed the participant's attitude toward Mandarin Chinese learning, and Mandarin Chinese writing learning but also enhanced the participant's prewriting planning skills and Mandarin Chinese essay writing skills.

The success of witness interviews in the criminal justice system depends on the accuracy of information obtained, which is a function of both amount and quality of information. Attempts to enhance witness retrieval such as mental reinstatement of context have been designed with typically developed adults in mind. In this article, the relative benefits of mental and sketch reinstatement mnemonics are explored with both typically developing children and children with autism. Children watched a crime event video, and their retrieval of event information was examined in free and probed recall phases of a cognitive interview. As expected, typically developing children recalled more correct information of all types than children with autism during free and probed recall phases. This thesis explored the effects of drawing and dramatization as well as the intersection between temperament, symbolic skills, language ability, mood, and various interview methods (drawing, dramatization, verbal-only) in children’s and adults’ verbal recall of a salient event. Studies One and Two examined whether drawing and dramatization facilitate 3- to 6- year olds’ verbal recall, after delays of one day, two weeks, and six months. Study Three looked the content of the drawings the children produced and how it changes over time. Study Four investigated whether drawings (own drawing or another’s drawing) can act as memory aids for a video event after a two-week delay. Study Five explored the effects of drawing on adults’ memory of a live event, after an immediate, a two-week, and a three-month delay. This study examines the effectiveness of animated aids for the production of English figurative expressions and the influence of learner factors. While previous studies illustrate that motion animations do not always enhance L2 learning, this study suggests that theoretically-grounded animations with learners' individual factors benefit L2 vocabulary learning. With animated aids for three spatial prepositions based on image schema theory and consideration of learners' information processing styles and first language, our empirical research was conducted to examine the condition under which the efficacy of animated aids was optimized. The research with 152 participants from Taiwan and Japan demonstrated the effectiveness of animated aids in facilitating the production of figurative L2 expressions. Our ANCOVA analyses revealed that the animation effect was observed to be more significant for the Taiwanese participants than for the Japanese participants. It was also found that for the Japanese participants, the imagers obtained more benefits from the animated aids than the verbalizers.

In the present text, we will quickly resume the cognitive, interdiscursive and transdiscursive aspects, as developed in Morais (2018; 2019), to reflect on the slogan of the presidential campaign and the elected Federal Government of Jair Bolsonaro, namely: Brazil above all, God above all. To this end, we structure the present text as follows: in the first section, we will briefly discuss the relationship between nation and religion based on Anderson (2008); in the second, we define the concept of hate speech from the Agency for Fundamental Rights of the European Union (FRA, 2019), the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI, 2019) and Lakoff (2017); in the third, we make use of the contributions of Krieg-Planque (2010) regarding the concept of discursive formula to analyze the slogans in question. Anossover, this crystallized expression condenses a political project focused on a fundamentalist reading – in the dogmatic sense – of the concepts of nation and God in the country, reorganizing militarist and liberal thoughts.

The present paper aims to describe the linguistic landscape of Komi-Permyaks, a Finno-Ugric speech community, in the territory of Perm Krai, Russia. After a brief theoretical introduction, we describe the linguistic landscape of Ku dimkar, the ”capital” of the territory. In our research, we use the well-known frame of linguistic landscape proposed by Laihonen (2012) which had to be slightly modified in line with the given data.

This introduction provides an overview of the intersection between Applied Cognitive Linguistics and Second/Foreign Language Learning. First, the relevance of Cognitive Linguistics (CL) for Applied Linguistics in general is discussed. The second section explains the main principles of CL and how each relates to the acquisition of second languages: (i) language and human cognition, (ii) language as symbolic, (iii) language as motivated; and (iv) language as usage-based. Section three offers a review of previous literature on CL and L2s that are different from English, as it is one the main aims of this Special Issue to provide state-of-the-art research and scholarship to enhance the bigger picture of the field of Second Language Acquisition beyond English as the target language. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) domains require people to recognize and transform complex visuospatial displays that appear to vastly exceed the limits of visuospatial working memory. Here, we consider possible domain-general mechanisms that may explain this advantage: capitalizing on symmetry, a structural regularity that can produce more efficient representations. Participants briefly viewed a structure made up of three-dimensional connected cubes of different colors, which was either asymmetrical or symmetrical. After a short delay, they were asked to detect a change (colors swapping positions) within a rotated second view. In change trials, the second display always had an asymmetrical structure. The presence of symmetry in the initial view improved change detection, and performance also declined with angular disparity of the encoding and test displays.
