Green Logistics

ABSTRACT In the last decade, the scientific researches focused on improvement of environmental friendliness and based on the principles of sustainable development, has been developed in transport sector, and this is «green» logistics. The article presents an overview of the research in this area using as an example foreign and Russian projects. It is shown that the existing approaches, methods and instruments of «green» logistics are scattered, their use leads to making contradictory decisions that do not contribute to a systematic reduction of the harmful impact of transport on the environment. The authors proposed their approach to systematization of principles and methods of «green» logistics, which will allow creating more balanced programs to improve the environmental friendliness and efficiency of transport systems.

The International Conference on Industrial Logistics (ICIL) 2016 will take place in Poland, from September 29th till October 1st 2016, hosted by the Faculty of Management, AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow and International Centre for Innovation and Industrial Logistics (ICIIL).

International Centre for Innovation and Industrial Logistics (ICIIL) is a non-profit professional association which has been developing an integrated view of Industrial Logistics, sharing and exchanging ideas and research results among students, researchers, academics and industrialists. The biannual International Conference on Industrial Logistics (ICIL) is the main mean to attain these objectives worldwide, moving from France 1993 to Brazil 1995, USA 1997, Russia 1999, Okinawa 2001, Finland 2003, Uruguay 2005, Lithuania 2006, Israel 2008, Brazil 2010 and Croatia 2012 and 2014.

The conference will feature a multidisciplinary program that will include original research results and contributions to the fields of logistics and supply chain management. Organizing and Scientific Committee gladly invite professionals, academics, students and industrialists to send contributing papers to the Conference.

Integrative logistics in SCM is and will continue to be a crucial and topical issue to come in Maritime Port Logistics in China. Because of the mass customization, globalization and e-commerce trends, worldwide logistics management has got more importance in business operations. In this perspective, the costing of transportation has become more important in accounting than cost of sold goods. Furthermore, Integrative Logistics in SCM remains relevant as new policies by administrations often generate new feelings, sentiments, needs and expectations in Maritime Port Logistics Chain which makes it imperative to further explore and investigate the research. The aim of this paper is to show, what is the Maritime port logistics chain and how integration works in supply chain for Maritime port logistics chain. To detect the major functions that influence the logistics performance of the port system, the authority of port has a magnificent role, communicating with the stakeholders involved in international trade logistics, such as exporters, importers, logistics operators, customs agents, inland carriers, and shipping lines. The common driver of the 'green-warehouse' strategy is based on the reduction of energy consumption. In warehouses with 'picker-to-part' operations the minimization of energy due to material handling activities can be achieved by means of different policies: by adopting smart automatic picking systems, by adopting energy-efficient material handling equipment (MHE) as well as by identifying flexible layouts. In most cases, these strategies require investments characterized by high pay-back times. In this context, management strategies focused on the adoption of available equipment allow to increase the warehouse productivity at negligible costs. With this purpose, an optimization model is proposed in order to identify an optimal control strategy for the battery charging of a fleet of electric mobile MHE (e.g., forklifts), allowing minimizing the economic and environmental impact of material handling activities in labor-intensive warehouses. The resulting scheduling problem is formalized as an integer programming (IP) problem aimed at minimizing the total cost, which is the sum of the penalty cost related to makespan over all the material handling activities and the total electricity cost for charging batteries of MHE. Numerical experiments are used to investigate and quantify the effects of integrating the scheduling of electric loads into the scheduling of material handling operations.

The aim of this study is to examine the mediating role of green organizational culture between environmental management practices (EMPs) and environmental performance. The study collected data from 157 manufacturing firms and employed the Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling as an analytical tool to test all hypothesized relationships. The results of the study indicated that EMPs (green manufacturing and green procurement) and green organizational culture are significant predictors of environmental performance. The study further showed that EMPs (green manufacturing and green procurement) have a significant positive effect on green organizational culture. It was also realized that green organizational culture plays a mediating role between EMPs and environmental performance. The study provides insight for managers to ensure that EMPs become a vital and permanent activity, thus becoming a cultural value which will be accepted and supported by all organizational members in the quest to achieve environmental performance goals.

Nowadays, the reduction of the harmful effect on the environment is one of the essential state-level and international challenges. The solution of this problem lies in a worldwide use of concepts and principles of sustainable development, but also in transport and logistics performance by principles and methods of green logistics. The first part of the paper presents the review of the most authoritative studies in the field of sustainable development and green logistics. The second part of the article reflects the original approach to achieving the goals of sustainable development in the operation of logistics and transport systems based on the harmonisation of economic purposes and principles of logistics with principles of sustainable development that are reached through the systematisation of reviewed methods and instruments of logistics. Sažetak U današnje vrijeme smanjenje štetnog utjecaja na okoliš predstavlja jedan od ključnih izazova na državnoj i svjetskoj razini. Rješenje ovoga problemaleži u primjeni koncepata i principa održivog razvoja diljem svijeta, ali i na organizaciji transporta i logistike u skladu s principima i metodama zelene logistike. U prvom dijelu rada iznosi se pregled najutjecajnijih istraživanja u polju održivog razvoja i zelene logistike. Drugi dio rada sadrži izvorni pristup postizanju ciljeva održivog razvoja u području sustava logistike i transporta na temelju usklađivanja ekonomskih svrha i logističkih principa s principima održivog razvoja, koje se postiže sistematizacijom proučenih metoda i logističkih instrumenata.

The first part of this paper presents the review on most authoritative studies in the field of sustainable development and green logistics, as well as a new approach to achieve the goals of sustainable development in the operation of logistics and transport systems. The second part reflects the results of systematisation of methods and instruments of green logistics, used to achieve the goals of sustainable development. The application of the presented approach to achieving the goals of sustainable development could form the balanced programs to raise environmental performance and effectiveness of supply chains' operation, and systemic implementation of methods and instruments of green logistics will provide achieving the goals of sustainable development. Sažetak Prvi dio ovoga članka predstavlja pregled najautoritativnijih studija u području održivoga razvoja i zelene logistike, kao i novi pristup postizanja ciljeva održivoga razvoja u djelovanju logistike i sustavu transporta. Drugi dio odražava rezultate sistematizacije metoda i instrumenata zelene logistike koji se koriste da se postignu ciljevi održivoga razvoja. Primjena predočenoga pristupa postizanja ciljeva održivoga razvoja može oblikovati izbalansirane programe da bi se podigla ekološka izvedba i djelotvornost opskrbnih lanacâ, a sstavna implementacija metoda i instrumenata zelene logistike osigurat će ciljeve održivoga razvoja.

The effective concept implementation of sustainable development in logistics and supply chain management is based on the use of management decision-making methods for changing the parameters of logistics flows using the green logistics instruments. Decisions should be made based on the measurement and evaluation of the indicators of these flows. The complexity of managing green supply chains is associated with insufficient knowledge of the system of logistics flows indicators and parameters, as well as methods and instruments for influencing these indicators. In the paper the use of the fuzzy AHP-TOPSIS method for evaluating the performance of logistics flows in green supply chains is considered, as well as ranking of green logistics instruments, taking into account the degree of influence on logistics flows indicators. The work presents a calculation implementation example in the logistics flow control system of the procedure for ranking green logistic instruments.
Эффективная реализация концепции устойчивого развития в логистической деятельности и управлении цепями поставок основана на использовании методов принятия управленческих решений по изменению параметров логистических потоков с использованием инструментов зеленой логистики. Решения должны приниматься на основе измерения и оценки параметров и показателей этих потоков. Сложность управления зелеными цепями поставок связана с недостаточной изученностью системы показателей и параметров логистических потоков, отсутствием методик их комплексной оценки, а также методов и инструментов влияния на эти параметры и показатели. В статье предложено использование комбинированного метода fuzzy AHP-TOPSIS для оценки показателей логистических потоков в зеленых цепях поставок, а также для ранжирования инструментов зеленой логистики с учетом степени влияния каждого из них на рассматриваемые параметры и показатели. Представлен расчетный пример ранжирования инструментов зеленой логистики на основе оценки параметров и показателей логистических потоков в цепях поставок. Ключевые слова: логистическая система, зеленая логистика, цепь поставок, транспортная система, показатели, методы принятия решений, ранжирование, нечеткий AHP-TOPSIS метод.

The paper primarily investigates the relationship between information technology, supply chain quality integration, green logistics management and organisational performance. The mediating roles of supply chain quality integration and green logistics management are further examined. The unit of analysis is small and medium enterprises in Ghana. A survey data collected from 280 tactical and strategic managers through questionnaires are analysed using SmartPLS-3. All the hypotheses are supported and accepted. The findings of the analysis establish positive relationships between the exogenous and endogenous variables. It is discovered that supply chain quality integration and green logistics management play intermediary roles between information technology and organisational performance. Moreover, the results show that supply chain quality integration mediates the relationship between information technology and organisational performance. Limitations and future research areas are discussed in work.

Global warming impacts are becoming more visible in our daily life. Supply chain activities and many logistics activities are the leading sources of carbon dioxide (CO2) emission and environmental pollutions. These issues have raised concerns to reduce CO2 emissions amount through design and planning of supply chain networks. Operations research has been recognised by many studies as an effective tool to deal with CO2 emission in design and planning of green supply chains. To date, a number of literature reviews have highlighted the contribution of operations research to green supply chain management with broader areas of focus. In this paper, we present a review which highlights the operations research contribution to recent green supply chain and logistics literature which specifically focuses on planning and control of supply chain activities with respect to CO2 emission. Finally, we propose some possible areas for further developments of current studies and directions for future research.
