With the announcement that Michael Jordan is returning for the cover of NBA 2K12, gamers are getting the most Michael Jordan since, well ever. The best basketball player in the world (that's a fact) has had an interesting video game career, in the sense that he hasn't been in as many as you'd think. Basketball fans will remember that in the prime of Jordan's career, he was nowhere to be seen in NBA Live. Take a look at MJ's odd rollercoaster of a video game career.

Jordan vs Bird: One on One (1988, Commodore 64 / NES / Genesis)
Right out of the gate, Michael Jordan wasn't messing around. Instead of some generic basketball game, MJ squared off against his rival and friend, Larry Bird. Those of you old enough to play games in the '80s likely remember arguing with your friend over who got to be Jordan and who was Bird.

NBA Playoffs Series (1989-92, NES / SNES / Genesis)
In the late '80s and early '90s, basketball games were little more than roster name updates. Electronic Art's NBA Playoff games are the titles that got the concept into people's heads that sports games don't improve every year (an erroneous statement that people are still claiming). Michael Jordan was featured on the Bulls for all three of these games, and they mark the last time he was playable on an annual EA sports title for the remainder of the 90s.

Team USA Basketball (1992, Genesis)
Remember the 1992 Olympics? The Dream Team, son! Funny enough, MJ didn't have an amazing performance in the Olympics, at least not compared to some of the other great players (Magic Johnson and Larry Bird were also on the team). Unfortunately this game felt and played exactly like the NBA Playoffs series. Can you tell who is who in this screenshot? Neither can I.
